Top Goal Scoring Teams in English Football ⚽️
After yesterdays 6-0 win Town are currently the top scoring team in English football overhauling Burnley and Manchester City as did Middlesbrough with their 5 goal haul on Friday night v Norwich.
Ipswich 85
Middlesbrough 79
Burnley 78
Manchester City 78
One for those who love stats, have we ever done this before ?

What’s really nice about that stat is we’ve continued to play the KM way and not the more direct style some had wished for. It feels like ITFC are in the process of a quickening, and we’re about to be born again as the team many of us covet. I can’t wait for every match now!

Only 3 teams, Manchester City, Reading and Sunderland have ever scored 100 points (or more) in English football and that’s our current maximum with 5 straight wins. Probably highly unlikely but an achievement in itself simply being so close.

Agree 100%. I've always said you can play your way out of this league, you don't have to resort to 6'6" strikers and hoofball. You can entertain and be successful at the same time which is why so many season tickets have been sold.

I would say we've been a bit more direct lately with Hirst leading the line. So I do think we've tweaked the way we play in the last couple of months. That's why Hirst was brought in and is favoured to Freddie. He can lead the line better and tie up the CBs. And we still play really entertaining, passing football.... just a bit more energy and directness. Think it's the new personnel more than anything.

Arthur Rowley was the first thing expected to see regards subject heading.
Believe Bolton got 100 points also in the 1990's when winning the old Second Division, now Championship. 1997, 98 something like that, it's one thing that stands out over time.
It would be real good if Town recorded that total this season. It would be tough for sure for doable. That would represent the best season here in terms of achievement since, hell I don't know, possibly George taking the club to 5th place in 2001 in the top most league.

Yes, that is spoken of so little that sometimes you wonder if it actually happened.arana peligrosa wrote: ↑Sun Apr 16, 2023 11:49 pm…..possibly George taking the club to 5th place in 2001 in the top most league.
Great times though……. Ipswich Town finishing 5th in the EPL with George Burley, and Big Eck McLeish taking the cabbage n ribs to the cup final……… losing out to your green Glesgae lot…… but memorable times all the same.

Just 10 goals needed for 100.
How spectacular would that be.

Back in '28 Dixie Dean required about as many goals in games remaining to beat a record standing from a season (or seasons) before.
Nobody thought it could be done but magic happened. That were a real definition of spectacular - and then some. Bill could have walked on water at the end of it, it were beyond amazing.
I don't figure we'll score 10 more in the 3 games remain. Exeter and Fleetwood are weak and beatable and we'll likely score for sure but a whole lot depends on the Oakwell trip before it. That alone could shape things (either way) for the final two contests.

Now standing at 99, it looks like the 100 really is on, and look how far we’ve pulled away from the other teams in the original post.
Ipswich 85…….Now 99 !
Middlesbrough 79……83
Burnley 78……………..84
Manchester City 78….82
We’ve added 14 goals, exactly the same as the other three teams added together.

100 goals and 100 points, how good would that be.

Brora from the Scotland Highland League have over 115 goals. Not only that they've played some 10 games less than ourselves to achieve it.
Brechin City got over 100 also as do Celtic in the SPL. Only Scots "football" enthusiasts could be aware of this.
