2023/24 season fixtures out tomorrow

Post by AzzurroMark » Wed Jun 21, 2023 4:39 pm

For many tomorrow ((22nd June) represents a highly anticipated moment with the release of the Championship fixtures for the coming season!

We know we will be away for the first game, but....

1, Who would you guys like to see us face in the first fixture?
2, Local derby, home or away first and when?
3, Any other team(s) you'll be particularly keeping an eye out for and the reasons?

I am going for one of the relegated Premier League sides with a nice trip to Southampton. A real baptism of fire and a good chance to lay down an early marker!

I'd like to see us at Carrow Rd early September and start to redress the balance of recent years.

Leeds away and Leicester at home will be the other fixtures I will be looking out for and hoping they fall on my weekends off. Worked in Leeds for just over 3 years and would look forward to a catch up with some old colleagues and a night out up there. As for Leicester, my Stepfather is a Foxes fan and still very much smarting from relegation after a few fruitful years.

There was some bitching over at the Pink Un' about us playing away first game, can't recall all the details but they weren't happy for some reason as it may cause problems for them, them get an away game final event and us at Portman Road to round it off et cetera. Didn't give it much further thought although they (seem) want to avoid us early games such as we've done so well up to now and riding a wave after the promotion achievement.

Being quick :

#1 Makes no difference to me, all teams are there to be played and hopefully beaten. We got to face them all at one stage or another.

#2 Home game as it gives us an advantage for victory. Worse case scenario they manage an away win and continued arrogance about how we haven't won against them since time of prohibition etc. Wouldn't really want a trip to Carrow Road to revisit hostilities.

#3 No not really. It's all about us and the rest seem immaterial. Only focus will occur in the closing stages if or when we're involved in a promotion / relegation issue and dependant on other teams favors and scores.

Seeing this (sorry to be swerving away from the OP) reminded me of several seasons back when we faced West Ham at PR on the opening day, and because Coventry were not ready to go into their new stadium (?) their home fixture against Norwich was switched to Carrow Road. Well it was a baking hot day, I was in my replica ITFC shirt, got to Norwich Station after the game and was pleased to see a train about to head off on the Ely line! I jumped on board amidst a sea of yellow shirted Budgie fans knowing I only had about 12 minutes to endure! Train pulls out of the station "this train is for .....calling at Thetford,.....". I had boarded the cross country train of which only one train stops in my town! So I rather worried, see the train hammer passed my stop, and the following station, finally arriving at Thetford, not knowing when the next train back again was, with a rapidly dying mobile phone battery and expecting to receive a load of abuse (or worse) at the hands of the City fans!
Fortunately I didn't have to wait long for a train back, and while I can laugh about it now, at the time I was feeling a very worried!

Yes looking forward to the release of the fixtures today. All I know is that I hope the bloody fixtures are kind to me as I am on a cruise & Stay holiday on the weekends of the 23rd & 30th Sept so praying its not Norwich on either of those weekends as I will be absolutely gutted to miss that.

Opening game I am feeling it to be Blackburn Rovers away.

I hope we play Norwich away first and fairly early in the season.

I will also be keenly looking on as to when we face Leeds, Southampton, Leicester and Bristol City, the latter because I hope we stuff them due to all the garbage being spouted about us and Mark Ashton on their forum, an incredible 75 pages on the subject of ITFC & Ashton, quite incredible and somewhat ridiculous if not disturbing, they go on about how if Ashton shows up at Ashton gate he is in for a bad time, so for those reasons I want to beat them as much as I do the Scum.

Only 45 mins to wait. I’m expecting Birmingham City (a)
to be our opening game.
Other teams I’ll be watching closely are Sunderland, Birmingham, Sheffield Wednesday, Leicester City and of course Norwich City who I just hope and pray we finish above.
I would like to see us play both Norwich City games over Bank Holidays the first at Carrow Road on Boxing Day, the return at Portman Rosd over Easter.
The other interesting fixture will be v Middlesbrough when McKenna and Carrick face one another H2H.

Really? Going to have to make a point of reading that later on.
WTF did he do to warrant 75 pages of “chat”? Not got time to view that just now, but you’ve prompted big interest for later

It makes good reading Marko, they seem to think we are on the road to bankruptcy, implosion and the depths of hell, apparently we are breaking FFP rules already, blah blah blah and the list goes on, enjoy.

Here is the link Marko, oh 72 pages, my mistake.......

The most recent pages are clearly the most relevant to us now.

Hmm, away at Leeds on not only the busiest weekend of the work year and also happens to be my weekend at work! Scrub that away fixture then!
Still at least we can hopefully look forward to an early Christmas present of 3 points from our near neighbours!
