Didn't know he was ill. Had cancer diagnosis at start of year, wasn't even aware. It's a shame as many will only recognize time with the English national team but believe he had success back in Sweden before it taking club names like Gothenburg to Euro glory. His full name was Svennis, something else never quite realized.

I'll always associate him with the Munich win by five goals back in 2001 not to mention Greece game around same time when Beckham saved it late on for them to avoid missing out on the World Cup the year thereafter. Could just have easily won the European Championships in 2004 had Rooney not been injured at a critical time of the tournament. Condolences to the family, he had over time a fine record and probably should have achieved greater success.

Sad to hear, but I'm slightly relieved he at least saw 76, I thought he was a bit younger somehow.

Seemed a thoroughly decent bloke in a world of generally not so thoroughly decent blokes.
