Leicester only 2pts behind us with a better GD. It’s looking like the Bournemouth match will be a hiding as well. Everton out of reach now too.

Re: Premier League - Liverpool FC vs Ipswich Town Preview & Matchday Thread
Knowing our luck this season, Leicester will start finding some form.
On another note, this is completely premature but I need a distraction from our last two mismatches…if indeed we do get relegated what can the club do to damage control finances? I know this will be unpopular, but here I go:
Sell Delap for 50-mil plus.
Sell Davis for 30-mil plus.
Maybe this topic will warrant another thread later on in the season when we know our fate?

Thing is, player valuations are fickle and relegated teams do not hold a strong hand at the table, nor an inform team to advertise. We lose all momentum and future spending power if we go down, which is one thing that has caused Southampton and Leicester issues, they couldn't spend like us. It'll be a scary ride not worth thinking about, we just have to hope that those running the club haven't spent dangerously.

Re: Premier League - Liverpool FC vs Ipswich Town Preview & Matchday Thread
More likely this wa6 round
Muric
Axel….O’Shea …….Greaves…..Townsend
Morsy Cajuste Davis
Hutchinson Enciso
Delap
Doubt he’d go with this formation though. But two in MF isn’t enough for us especially against the better sides , which Saints aren’t btw …..
I’d personally still want Hirst in ahead of Delap, because he has more to his game atm and experience, and he brings the other forwards into play so much better. Ideally we have a front line of say
………………….….Hirst………………………..
Broadhead……. ????……… Delap
For the number 10 role take your pick from
Chaplin ( if fit)
Hutch
Philogene
Ensico
But with Hirst as the pivot and Broadhead / Delap wide left and right that’s a helluva potent front line , that has width to its potency, rather than just Delap getting the ball on the half way line, head down steaming towards goal. At this level he’s quickly closed down, as we saw it too often yesterday. Aginst some of the lesser side his striker attributes have some success, but we need more of threat across the whole front line….

It's too easy to criticise a keeper innit?
For me Muric has got more stature, a bigger presence in the box, stickier hands.
Would he have let ten in in the last two games? I dunno.

Re: Premier League - Liverpool FC vs Ipswich Town Preview & Matchday Thread
I was thinking about both GK’s after yesterday and after watching the game back again today, I feel disappointed that Walton didn’t do much better with their first two goals tbh. In truth I don’t think either are good enough for where we want to be going forwards. Muric wasn’t our primary target. I think that was a Brighton GK? Either way we’ve spent a lot of money on a keeper that appears to have ingrained faults, that I’m not entirely sure we can coach out of him. We haven’t made many mistakes in our recruitment, but I do feel unless he responds to coaching, we have made one with him. Walton is what he is , a Championship level keeper in my humble opinion.

Poorer distribution, comedy positioning, awful control, to name but a few issues! Walton is not perfect by any means but I have not missed Muric for an instant!

I’m hearing Walton won’t be available for Southampton. Apparently he’s strained a back-muscle from repeatedly picking the ball up from the back of the net!
Sorry bad joke, I needed a laugh.

Marko, I’m blaming McKenna for Saturday. I mean what fool tells us to attack at 4-0 down with a few minutes to go so we can score a goal and cost me points in the Prediction League.marko69 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2025 4:52 pmHalf an eye on Mash?Shed on tour wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2025 4:25 pm

But my point was more on the whole. The highlighted part in blue. Firmly believe they're a "duo" now.

Re: Premier League - Liverpool FC vs Ipswich Town Preview & Matchday Thread
Imo fees and wages for Premiership calibre players, especially English players, is ridiculous now. For newly promoted clubs it has made it even more difficult to compete at this level. It’s even harder for ITFC having achieved promotion from league 1 in 2 years. This puts even more pressure on clubs like ours to have a greater success in recruitment than some of the more established teams in the Premiership.marko69 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2025 4:04 pmShed on tour wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2025 3:34 pmMarko, I’m blaming McKenna for Saturday. Our situation has not been helped by the fact that Evans let the recruitment side of the club run down and therefore when Gamechanger 20 took over it was another thing which needed rebuilding from scratch. One area that imo still needs to be worked on is the foreign market where it seems clubs like Bournemouth and Brighton have excelled in recent years.
As for our recruitment this season, I’m afraid Phillips has been a complete waste of money, not sure what percentage of his wages we are paying but you can bet it works out to be a fair few pounds. Clarke has also been a disappointment and as for Muric the less said the better.

Yep, definitely word x 2
Its been ridiculous for tens of years. It’s the main reason the now defunct Glasgow Rangers FC were liquidated.
