Wilnis to appeal red card ...

Post by Bluebird » Tue Nov 29, 2005 10:06 am

Ipswich defender Fabian Wilnis wants the club to appeal against his sending-off in the 2-1 defeat by Cardiff at Ninian Park.

The Dutchman received his marching orders in the 12th minute for hauling down Cardiff striker Cameron Jerome, although Michael Ricketts missed the resulting spot-kick.

But after Jason Koumas' late strike earned Cardiff the points, Wilnis said: "Honest to god, I never touched the player. My arm went across him as a normal reaction when you are going for the ball and to keep my balance.

"I never pushed the player, pulled him, held him or anything yet he went down as though he had been shot. I have to speak to the gaffer [Joe Royle] but I hope we will appeal because I have not done anything wrong and don't deserve to miss a game for that.

"If I pulled the player down I would admit it but it never happened and I'm really disappointed by the whole thing and just hope the referee will look at the video and say he made a mistake," he told the club's official website.

From what I saw on Sky Wilnis definately tried to hold the boy back. Ok he made a meal of it but I bet Forster would have done the same. Penalty without doubt and if "in the referees opinion" it was a goalscoring opportunity then it has to be a red.

He'll never get it rescinded, there's contact. And if there's contact in the box the striker is bound to throw himself to the floor. You're wasting your time Fabian.

I don't think the ref should have awarded a PK because the striker had lost the ball, and the player did dive outrageously after he realized that he had lost the ball. That said, what Fab did was moronic. You can't extend your arm that far and get away with it in the center of the box. Maybe he is used to getting away with that kind of crap out at the edge of the box when he is playing right back.

Well Fab was trying to make up for his crap, well wudnt call it a pass, just hit his foot (but i'm sure he ment to hit it that way so mayb a pass back to price? lol) and then stuck his arm out, made minimal contact, but you knew straight away if it was a pen, he was off, and unfortunately it happened. He put his arm out so its his own fault even tho the striker made a big meal out of it!
