GLEN MURRAY

Post by ashfordblue » Sun Feb 15, 2015 10:15 pm

 Reports in the Sun on Sunday today that Bournemouth & Ipswich are chasing the loan signing of the prolific goal scorer Glen Murray from Palace, Mick saying he's willing to pay all of Murray's current wages whilst on loan, in my blog a few weeks ago I said that it would be good to get someone like Murray in, be interesting to see how this one pans out, :D GO GET HIM MICK

Rumors in a random news publication that invariably come to nothing. Desperate media hacks looking for a story. We'd get linked to f**king Johan Cryuff making a return if it sold some editions.

Did some quick research on this Murray character and while he's done ok here and there and made some contribution, not entirely convinced it's a player we really need to go for. Why would Crystal Palace allow him to leave anyway ? Don't they have some concern with a relegation risk ? Guessing you'd want your best players for that endeavor, least of all your most reliable center forward. Say he does go on a loan someplace, I can't see it being here at Portman Road.

We'll keep an eye on it (if indeed this rumor has any substance) but be prepared for disappointment.

Might be wrong but can't see this happening.

For a start who would you drop for him to play especially as Murphy and Sears look like they could form a good partnership and you also have McGoldrick as well. Therefore, even if we were prepared to pay his full wages (which I doubt) would we do so for somebody to sit on the bench and I would expect Murray wouldn't be happy with that either.

The only way I could see this happening is if Murphy picked up a serious injury which hopefully won't happen.

Wohooo there I'm only the messenger, no slating please, I've just seen it in the paper, and reported what Its said, with us and Bournemouth looking to add to our fire power, and I think it would be a very good loan in, Murray cant get in Palaces first team squad at the moment, and is ripe for a loan out, he's certainly got a proven scoring record in the championship.

Now Shed, just say we happen to pick up a couple of serious injuries to our main strikers, God forbid it happens, but like Didsy he keeps picking up knocks, we need a bloody good back up in place, not after its happened but before, the last thing we want is our wheels coming off at this critical stage of the run in, I'm pretty sure that Mick & Marcus our very serious about this opportunity to win promotion, I quite honestly think Murray is a safer option than Didsy, hes gone off the boil, Glen is certainly very similar to Daryl, same age, big build and not scared to get in where it hurts, also you could say why the heck are the Cherries interested in Murray, as they have some very good strikers, its all to do with keeping up the pressure, but we will see, it also makes another topic to talk about, also I would certainly welcome back Jonny Williams in Midfield, also I'm hoping that now Sherwood has taken over at Villa he recalls Bent from Derby, that would be a plus.

BlueMike:  Ouch that comment was a bite back, but your dead right the paper states both clubs will be willing to pay the players wages in full to secure his services, I presume that info comes from the board of directors not the managers, oh hang on, I know for sure that neither Mick nor Eddie would allow the board to sanction a player without their say so, lets see where we go from here.

I think the majority of us on here know full well we do need some form of back up loans in just to keep the pot boiling

Ashford, no-one has slated you in the slightest mate, just stating facts/opinions.

As for Murray, I dont see it happening for one second and whatever the papers may or may not be saying ITFC simply wont pay the complete wages of a player of this ilk to sit on the bench, it simply won't happen.

I also don't want Willimas back here, no way, injury prone and his second stint with us achieved nothing, in fact I would go as far as to say we are better off without him, all too much of our play tended to try and go through him and we became predictable, he did ok and served a purpose but I think we have moved on and the progress of Bishop & Bru has impressd me and this would be hampered should Williams return, no thanks.

Ashford
As Mike has said no one is slating you.

Just can't see it happening and especially us paying all his wages. He recently signed a new contract at Palace and I would think his current wage is way out of our league and as I said before I can't see him wanting to be sat on the bench either. .

Changing subject slightly I see we are now linked with Varney and Chaplow is training with us.

Agree that the prospect of Glenn Murray arriving is probably remote - but stories like it fill column inches.

At the risk of physical violence, however, the prospect of MM bringing back Williams remains far more likely!
