No doubt if we were some other club, mentioning no names, it would surely merit an open top bus parade.

It says one thing then mentions another i.e. Town having the longest unbeaten streak in Europe then saying that the French team are already beyond it with victories over some other continental opposition ? So which is correct
Bear in mind also how often Town are involved in European competition. You could count on both hands the number of seasons we have participated in Europe i.e. end of the 70s, early 80s, 2001 - 02 and of course 1962 - 63. The other would have been involved for a much longer duration and therefore would have more of a record that could be jeopardized.

PSG beat our long unbeaten run without a home defeat, but they lost at home last night meaning we still hold the longest UNBROKEN run without a home defeat.

Ironic for me :
The Blues' record goes back to the European Cup preliminary round tie with Maltese club Floriana in September 1962
I am also Maltese -

True, but for a club of our size to remain unbeaten at home in Europe having played sides like Barcelona (twice), Real Madrid and St Etienne is still quite an achievement in my book.saint jude wrote:It says one thing then mentions another i.e. Town having the longest unbeaten streak in Europe then saying that the French team are already beyond it with victories over some other continental opposition ? Those European nights during the Robson years must have been awesome. I think I have asked this before, (can't remember) but did any of you on this forum travel to Pittodrie for the Aberdeen v Ipswich UEFA Cup tie in the 82/83 season?
Quasar......., Hoping you are a big fan of,

Marko
Apologies....never heard of them... I don't really know any local FC;s in Malta.
The most I ever do is see how well the International team have done...via scoreline.
Ive only been to Malta 10 times, but am Immensely proud of the country and proud to be half Maltese.
I even sport a huge Maltese cross tattoo on my back shoulder blade.
Maybe this could be my new "thing" read about this team ( as above ) Is this your team then ?

Sounds excellent, Quasar......., let's get a photo of that Maltese cross on the forum......., someone start the "Tattoo" thread. Never been to Malta, although its not far from Sicily, and I've been there several times......., not as much as 10 times though!
Great part of the world....., the temperatures are not too hot (although it can get scorching) and NEVER cold.
Regarding Malta Hibs......, yes I'm a big fan of them. Always check their results. There are a few clubs around the world that I'm always looking out for; Catania from Sicily, (relegated from Serie A last season and playing incredibly sh*t in Serie B, maybe even relegated again!) Salernitana who are in Serie C (went to one of their games 4 years ago when they were in Serie B, wife and I were in Amalfi at the time) Osijek FC (one of my mates is Croatian, from Osijek, one of the nicest places on Earth by the way) Werder Bremen, (Since school days, German exchange students were from Bremen, and they play in green so even better) Fortuna Dusseldorf because of the ITFC connection, (but if they ever play Bremen, Its Werder all the way!)
Robson really must've been a pure genius at what he did. To have this exceptional record in Europe AND to compete consistently at domestic level, with "arguably!!!!" a relatively small club......, its just incredible.

Alex Ferguson V Bobby Robson........., not massive names back then........, but who'd have known they'd both reach legendary status. Well......., Sir Bobby was always going to be a legend. Everyone mustve known it.bluemike wrote:I didnt travel to Pittodrie unfortunately Marko, but I did get to the home leg.marko69 wrote:Quasar wrote:Ironic for me :

Wanted to go to the away leg at Pittodrie but had only just started a new job so thought I had better not push my luck too much!

Another irony Quasar, as far as I recall your 10 visits is the same number as the goals we put past Floriana in the home leg.

Likewise Mike, I made the home leg but not the away one.
On the same subject I also went to the home leg of the Floriana tie and the one that followed against AC Milan which we won 2-1 but I'm guessing you were far too young to make either of those.

Charny, were you at ITFC's first ever match....., a 6–1 win v Stoke Wanderers, a friendly at Broom Hill, 2nd November 1878?

I'm not quite that old Marko, but I am too old to rememember exactly my first game although I'm pretty sure it was in the 1958/59 season. I first went to Portman Road even younger but only to watch the reserves play in the Combination League. One of my school pals dad used to play Neil Miles, one of my neighbours Andy Nelson, and one of our church congregation John Compton. Most of the players used to live quite local and many used to walk or cycle to the ground.

And Marko that defending was poor to say the least, if that was Chambers or Mings today they would be lambasted by everyone haha.
