Murphy Nominated for Championship Player of the Year

Post by J4ck22 » Fri Apr 17, 2015 5:29 pm

Town striker Daryl Murphy has been nominated for the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Year award.

The 32-year-old, who is the division’s highest scorer on 24 goals, is up against Patrick Bamford, who is on loan at Middlesbrough from Chelsea, and Watford’s Troy Deeney for the gong.

Each Championship manager was asked to list who they believe have been the top five players in the division this season in order with the overall top three receiving the nominations.

The winner will be announced on Sunday at the 10th annual Football League awards at The Brewery in London. Last year’s winner was Danny Ings of Burnley.

Murphy, who won the Sky Bet Championship December Player of the Month award, has already carried off the Town supporters’ Player of the Year, Junior Blues and Platinum Members gongs.

Surely with that shortlist, Daryl has it in the bag?

Murphy Nominated for Championship Player of the Year

I'd like to think so and, going back over the years, I think it tends to be the league's top scorer who scoops the award. They're 3 strong contenders, though, and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top...

Murphy has done well but there's other departments in a team where players can contribute. There's a lot of good defenders, midfield players and even goalkeepers in this league who have helped their respective teams to something, it's not all about who can score the most goals. Yes he's a contender, but looking at it from an impartial perspective there's maybe one or two others out there who are perhaps more deserving.

Ridiculous that Bamford won it. Yes hes been playing in the championship this year/season and they sit on top or very nearly top, but Murphys had the best season in his career and has been banging them in all season with many assists to boot. Fuming these premier League loanees come and take away Places that the local Clubs youth team players would have had.

I read from Manu Chelski and Arsenal they had 70 plus players in the lower Prem and championship Clubs.

Yeah, those Prem teams send all their youngsters away to gain experience and still bribe away the lower league talent. Greedy gits!

Cant help think that this is a very poorly disguised swipe at Mick McCarthy and his style of football, by eg NOT voting for this Clubs striker , who just happens to be one of the highest scoring strikers in the Country this season.

Bunch of nobs can stuff their "award" where the sun doesn't shine, sideways.,

How can someone be the top scorer in the league which apparently is the hardest thing to do in football (Score that is) be beaten by a Chelsea loanee who isn't a Boro player? Fu*king ridiculous.
