Maybe a poll should be started on who has been the worst ever ITFC manager. That knob must be in the running.

And to think he was never the original primary target for job! A deal had been agreed with another well known manager, but we wouldnt pay the compensation, so RK got the job instead. Big mistake!

NW! Deal was all agreed , and he thought he was about to start the job, when it transpired Town wouldnt pay the compensation, deal was off. NW ws gutted ( not the first manager to utter those words when failing to secure the Town job).

I would have thought Warnock also. Seem to remember the name being linked around the time but then so was everyone else from Alex Ferguson to J Edgar Hoover. Pity really as Warnock would have been a good name to bring in, certainly better than Keane who despite a fanfare of publicity and false expectation at time of arrival, proved to be a dud.

Just because it was Roy Keane some automatically assumed the club would scale great heights once again or some fantastic new era would dawn but was in the percentage that saw through it from the start and had my doubts. In the end, those initial instincts came to pass.

Many years back it was mooted that Howard Kendall arrived at Portman Road with the job virtually his, only to be sent packing at the last minute for turning up half pissed.

Must admit, I was in the % that thought good things were going to happen. Then Pish-kin arrived while Rhodes was averaging a hatrick a game @ Udders. Started to think..... Wtf is going on?! Lovely memories. The guy is an as*hole with limited football management knowledge.

Remember one game against us we were winning 1-0 and shouting at him "Warnock, Warnock what's the score" and his team then equalised to make it 1-1 and he held his middle finger up on each hand!

I remember an ex Hibee, (who went to them across the City) done the same after a game. He was getting serious verbal, ..... He waved and applauded until he reached the tunnel, then middle fingers as he disappeared down the tunnel.

Wasn't Keane employed with Sunderland before joining us ? I don't remember him achieving anything significant there and have to wonder in retrospect why Ipswich even considered making a move for him. Guess it was just the appeal of the name and they expected it would boost ticket sales and put butts on seats and didn't give too much thought that it all may end in an eventual mess. Don't think he's been back in full-time employment since leaving here which may well tell you something.

Do not remember a promotion but if it did occur, then that's the only other reason why we appointed him. Sunderland must have big pockets if they can afford that figure of spending.

In any event, whatever money they allowed him, whatever his exploits at another club, the fact of the matter is he came down, we took him on, and bottom line he was not far from a disaster. Sometimes I can't make a distinction who was worse between him, Jewell or even Magilton but seem to remember with the latter we may just have improved that little bit better. In the bigger picture, it's been a decade to (largely) forget.

Magilton was poor but was way better than Keane & Jewell, both of them were disasters but the reason Keane was worse was his inability to have a bit of dignity while at the club, at least Jewell had the right intentions. Keane repeatedly insulted the Town fans and people of Suffolk with his comments, he had spats with the crowd and even more recently comes out with bullshit about not liking Blue and that he had attempted to change our club colours, there were so many things about that wanker that I can't even remember them all right now, selling Rhodes, sacking Klug !!!! That must go down as the work of a madman. A distasteful and nasty individual who was always going to be a disaster from day one.

For us oldies the worst ITFC manager ever would be the great Jackie Milbun under who's management Town only managed to win 11 of their 55 games played.

Milburn was manager between May 1963 & September 1964 having succeeded Sir Alf Ramsay.

I also love the bit where he stated that, he wanted the job because Ipswich has always played attractive football, with a good youth set up, well from that day onwards, attractive football went out the window, and he fooked up the best academy manager BK we had, sold a rising star JR, who on a regular basis knocked in 30 to 40 goals a season for the youth team, and has proved it with Huddersfield and Blackburn, and low and behold 3 managers later we're still playing fooking hoof ball, albeit with Mick & Tel its had better results, But I blame the director ME & Clegg for making that huge mistake, of appointing RK, Neil Warnock or Ian Holloway would have been much better choices, forked out a shedload of money to RK on crap players, where as if we had settled the compensation fee for NW, which would have been cheaper in the long run, I think NW would have had us promoted fairly quickly, oh happy days with JR and GB

I quite like Warnock and Holloway, but both can be a tit on their day.

I respect the job that JR did for us on a shoestring budget, but despite giving us a good ride for our money I still blame GB for being the manager who kicked off our decline with his reckless purchases. I've always believed that had we sacked him earlier and brought in a decent top flight manager we would have enjoyed the same Premier League status that Stoke City have as we were so far ahead of them at that time.
