Ainsley Maitlaind-Niles. What we can expect

Post by hallamblue » Thu Jul 02, 2015 3:54 pm

Arsenal fan who watches their U21s regularly

Should be a very good loan for Arsenal and for Ipswich. McCarthy likes his wingers quick and technical, and you'll definitely get that from Maitland-Niles - at least I'm certain that's where he'll be played.

In terms of his strengths, he has quite a few; he's a very competent dribbler - either tricking out of tight spaces or running direct at defenders. Technically he's very strong, and his passing is an underrated asset. He does have a decent finish on him aswell, and likes a shot from outside the area. Perhaps the biggest standout other than his dribbling is his athleticism and work-rate. He always seems to be on the move, and he's also a very tactically astute player - part of the reason why he's been playing in central midfield recently. It's possible that he may play there for you, as he's shown himself to be competent in the middle of the park.

Like most youth players, occasionally his decision making isn't strong, but in comparison to other young players, it's not a big weakness. Most of his weaknesses will show themselves when he does play in central midfield - he's probably not the best ball-winner but he does make up for that with his speed and determined play.

He will probably play wide for you guys as it's his best position, and while I've not seen a great deal of Ipswich last season, McCarthy tends to employ strong wingers. Maitland-Niles is one of our less-hyped youngsters but he has performed at a consistent level for someone of his age. It could possibly be a big step to go straight to the Championship, but with the seamless way he rose to U21 level, and additionally played an unfamiliar deep midfield role and still performed to a high standard, I'm sure that he will have a good loan with you guys.

The Ox comparison is a pretty good one. Expect a solid, athletic dribbler and a hard worker. If all goes well, expect some end product too!

I am excited by this one, we now have two very attack minded wingers on our hands which is what we have been craving, can't remember the last time we had this in our armoury. Even if he isn't a regular starter to begin with he will no doubt cause some damage coming on against tiring defenders etc. Well happy with this signing and no recall again thank god.

He's only 17 isn't he? So judging by MM's reluctance last season to play an 18 year old, I do not expect him to feature much at all. I'm a bit baffled by the whole signing to be honest.

I dont think Wenger would allow him to join us for a whole season , if he wasnt going to feature much rossi. This kid has played three Champions league games I think, and hes not small for a 17yr old, unlike Teddy Bishop. I can easily see him coming on in the second half against tiring defences. He'd rip them up.

Arsenal youngsters are pretty much some of the best in the country so I'm happy we have this young man (and I'm not talking about BlueMike lol).

still wonder if we will play him though.....guess we'll wait and see.

A few tricks up his sleeve with pace - an exiciting prospect and would be useful on the crossbar challenge.
One interesting fact I read is that he played for Arsenal U18's when he was just 14

Remember Parkins videos Mike he was made to look like the new Messi

rely hope he can help bring the team on to the next level. I doubt he will be a week in week out regular but he seems to have a special something.
