Interesting view on Wickham........................
This is an interesting view on Connor Wickham, and does beg the question, "we're we right to sell when we did?"

PS yes I know it says Poyet, but as some of the comments point out their manager is d*ck Advocat!

Re: Interesting view on Wickham........................
Reads like a hatchet article to me.
£18'000 on champagne is one thing, but to then go on about whey protein and hair wax. I mean, jeez Connor, you flash c***
Any time I spoke to him he seemed a pretty level kid. Maybe that's changed, but I tend to be able to spot a wanker when I meet them. I work with quite a few so I've got the experience

Re: Interesting view on Wickham........................
I think it is quite reasonable to say that he has been a huge disappointment since we sold him. For whatever reason, he certainly hasn't developed as much as I thought he would.
Regarding his lifestyle, I seem to remember reading something last hear about his leading the high life, his high opinion of himself and his lack of application on the pitch. It's certainly a shame if what we thought was a huge talent has gone astray. Perhaps Pardew can get the best out of him.

Am I right to say that he didn't exactly light the world on fire BEFORE he was sold....., and the £8M was an absolute f**king steal? In fact it was Nicholas Parsons' (from Norwich) The Sale of the fkn Century?barmy billy wrote:I think it is quite reasonable to say that he has been a huge disappointment since we sold him. Notwithstanding the fee, I still think many people expected him to show a lot more than he has to date.marko69 wrote:Am I right to say that he didn't exactly light the world on fire BEFORE he was sold....., and the £8M was an absolute f**king steal? Re: Interesting view on Wickham........................
I think you have to take in consideration the demise of Sunderland football during Connor's tenure. I think he will develop under Pardew mostly because Pardew will play Connor in his best position...which for me is the target man in the box. CP's wingers should also provide plenty of service to the young lad. Should we have sold Connor? Of course we should have sold him for the money we got...just like Mings. I don't think Connor's lifestyle has anything to do with his performance on the pitch. He'll be alright.

Wickham had literally only just appeard on the scene at PR to be fair to him. Rhodes was ahead of him in experience and appearances (although neither had many appearances to shout about ).
All these young players ever see are the £££ signs tbh and they ALL leave way too soon. He's probably very happy with his lot...Rhodes clearly isnt though. But its interseting that despite Rhodes' scoring record , when push comes to shove none of the established PL teams are willing to take a risk on him. Wikcham , for me , is still the better all round striker .

Re: Interesting view on Wickham........................
Perfect timing when we sold him! It's a massive shame he hasn't kicked on, maybe it seems the money has gone to his head. I've read (obv might not be true) that he thought he had made it when he moved on and was last one to arrive for training, first one to leave.
It's a shame as he genuinely looked something really special, especially for England U21's.

Having watched them both 1st hand marko. Wickham is a very skillful player. Rhodes is just a very a effective fox in the box. Deny him the ball and he's essentially awol for the team. Wickham has much more to his game and at least works for the team when he doesnt have the ball at his feet. Rhodes doesn't

Lets not forget Wickham had no choice in the matter when it came to moving on, so why should he not enjoy the money, he never asked to go in the first place.

From memory, I dont think Rhodes actually wanted to leave either. In fact I think it was his dad that wanted him to move on - possibly to get away from Keane?

Re: Interesting view on Wickham........................
I don,t think anyone can blame Rhodes or Wickham moving on when they did. As already stated young footballers want to get on the gravy train asap.Just like Stones at Everton now handing in a transfer request. Despite Everton plucking Stones from Barnsley and giving him the training and tools to appear in their first team he wanted "out" as soon as Chelsea showed interest. Last year Stones signed a 4 year contract and 9 months later he wants to leave. Loyalty and gratitude is a thing of the past.

Re: Interesting view on Wickham........................
Out of pure curiosity and nothing else, I'd like to know exactly what happened with the RK & Rhodes thing. I know it's ancient history, but I'd still like to know.
But then I suppose we all know what curiosity done to the "pussy"!
Spot on with the loyalty thing, JR. WAY too much cash in the game now. And that's only going to rise as the years pass.

Re: Interesting view on Wickham........................
2 young strikers at Ipswich Town full of potential...1 person too choose who to keep and who to sell........as Hallam has rightly said Conor has a far better all round game so hence why Rhodes was sold.......and yes Keane told someone to make the descion who to sell.

Re: Interesting view on Wickham........................
Thing was we were never going to be able to keep Wickham but could have Rhodes but within 6months we had neither. Surely Rhodes would have had well over 100 goals for us by now.
Sold Rhodes, bought priskin and other worse strikers. Can't complain now though, top line up, wonder if Rhodes would get a place now?

Re: Interesting view on Wickham........................
You will have people who say, no, he wouldn't get a place (I have no idea why they'd say that, he's still very young) ......, but Jordan Rhodes is a clinical finisher. Ok, he may be on a lean spell at the moment but when presented with the decent ball, he will bury it.
So it's really the midfield that people need to think about when answering the question of whether Rhodes would get a game........., he would definitely do HIS job in scoring......, would the ITFC midfield do THEIR job and create chances for him? That's the debate.
