Walters or Murphy
Just seeing two Town strikers complete the job for Republic tonight got me wondering which one would be the fans favourite to lead Town now?

Pardon the pun, but Walters is in a different league to Murphy.

Re: Walters or Murphy
Walters is the proven Premiership striker.
Don't think he's seen as very popular ex-player - but I like him and admire how's he worked hard and established himself.
We picked him up from Chester for 300, 000 and sold him for 3 million. I think he's a Town success story of sorts - albeit once he's moved on.
Once again, the Keane factor... falling out with a player and souring the exit.
McCAuley and Delaney .. even Bruce... have established themselves in the PL - yet never showed that form whilst Keane was here.
Murph is committed to the Town and can do a good job for us - but he aint ever going to score 27 goals again.

Re: Walters or Murphy
Damien Delaney is definitely a completely different player now. He was afraid of his own shadow at ITFC with RK in charge. Which points to RK being the sole reason for many players issues during his time.
Murphy, when firing and confident is a very good striker, and I like him. Definitely hoping the Rotherham hatrick has given him the hunger to go get more. I'm sure it has.
I personally don't watch the EPL very much and when I do, it's certainly not to watch Stoke City. Not seen much of Walters although I do see his name a lot.
To summarise....., not a clue. But happy with Murphy at this moment in time.

Re: Walters or Murphy
At the level he was playing last night and Friday, Murphy looks slow and ineffective. I do like him whereas I never thought Walters would make the grade in the prem as a striker (most of his good work for us was as a wide man) but he's proved me wrong. Walters is definitely the better player of the two.Charnwood wrote:Pardon the pun, but Walters is in a different league to Murphy.

Take this opportunity to offer congratulations to the Republic of Ireland on their qualification. Apparently Wales and Northern Ireland are also due at next years tourney by all accounts so that is some home representation.hallamblue wrote:Just seeing two Town strikers complete the job for Republic tonight got me wondering which one would be the fans favourite to lead Town now?
Voted for Murphy although seem to be in the minority. Yes he's been disappointing this season thus far but can't ignore the fact he was the league's leading striker last season and largely responsible for the teams play-off achievement. Walters is a decent player, capable, but more inclined to focus on what players with our team now can produce. If this had been presented at end of season and (had) Murphy continued to be ineffective, would most likely favor the other, but Murphy has ample time to redeem himself in the weeks and months ahead.

Agree with SJ, Murphy for me, it's all about the timing of the question and as stated had this been asked last season there would only be one winner.

Re: Walters or Murphy
I don't see what Walters gets up to. As another poster put it, have little interest in the EPL anymore, least of all Stoke City, so whatever he achieves away from Portman Road would go largely unnoticed. One reason why Murphy got the vote, (and) he's (at this time) far more recognized.bluemike wrote:Agree with SJ, Murphy for me, it's all about the timing of the question and as stated had this been asked last season there would only be one winner.

Personalities, sentiment and Murph's last season's heroics apart, Walters is probably the more accomplished player. Although we may actually be trying to compare apples and pears. Interesting that, seemingly, no PL club showed an interest in Murphy, despite all those goals. Thankfully, therefore, he remains an ITFC player.

Re: Walters or Murphy
In retrospect they made the right choice but strange (if it's true) that no EPL side would take a chance to sign him up after being the championships record scorer last season. Wonder if he had moved to one of the less recognized teams such as Southampton or Leicester in the summer and how he would have done for himself.herforder wrote:Personalities, sentiment and Murph's last season's heroics apart, Walters is probably the more accomplished player.
