Well this thread has been depressing reading for me and whilst I can accept that not everyone has a positive personality and maybe I'm a bit over positive, I still think that many of us should be taking a chill pill here :-)

Our start is average but not bad, we are unlucky with injuries already and yes our squad is a little thin on the ground. But that's life for a mid-table team like us. We are not going to be able to compete financially with the 10 or so teams who have much bigger resources than us. ME does not invest 300k-700k on players he actually finances the club's losses to the tune of multimillions per year as has been said before. Some teams don't have that kind of backing and they are now yo-yo teams in and out of Division 1 as a result.

We can only get tho the playoffs if some of our players over achieve (like Murphy 2 years back) or if our management is better than average (and I think it is).

We didn't get lucky against Barnsley, we saw a high quality hat-trick by a young player that the management team had identified, the owner had financed and the coaching staff thought was ready to change the game at half time. Credit where credit is due guys.

As for the tickets issue, I think the involvement of the Irish gentleman disturbed from his bath to face arrest will transform this into a diplomatic incident and we may not hear too much more about it until charges are quietly dropped, but that's just hunch.

This season will be hard fought, tooth and nail stuff and this is what we have come to enjoy in this league no? Let's enjoy the 'ups' and be balanced and objective in analysing the 'downs'.

Haha a heavy defeat on Sunday and I might be tempted to delete it :-P

Wish I could get to some games and I'm jealous of those of you that just need to jump into a car and drive for a couple of hours to do so.

It's wonderful to have this resource to keep up to date with the club.

Conversely, when I have to trudge home for 3 or 4 hours after being humped and having played crap you can be happy in the knowledge you are on your sofa with a beer or glass of claret LOL, but yes I take your point.

Indeed so. But in the last few years that has been mercifully rare.

Town owner Marcus Evans’s THG Sports have backed the setting up of an independent inquiry into the alleged illegal selling of tickets for the Rio Olympics, which Irish sports minister Shane Ross reportedly could announce as soon as today.

Last week, Brazilian police issued warrants for the arrests of Evans and three other THG directors, having previously arrested another, Kevin James Mallon, with around 1,000 tickets in a hotel room in Rio.

"THG notes that, in the interests of the wider Irish public, there have been calls in Ireland for an independent inquiry into the Rio16 Olympic ticketing affair,” THG said in a statement.

"THG wishes to make clear that it would very much welcome such an inquiry and pledges to provide full cooperation in the strong belief that it can demonstrate that the company has acted lawfully at all times.

"While THG respects the Brazilian police process, which clearly is different to that in the UK or Ireland, THG believes that a full and proper judicial assessment cannot be achieved without consideration of, and access to, all the THG compliance documentation which THG has followed in the provision of hospitality packages in Rio.

“THG would like to see that an independent inquiry, under the chair of a respected Irish legal figure, be actioned expeditiously."

Pro10 Sports Management, the Authorised Ticket Reseller (ATR) for the Olympic Council of Ireland (OCI) at the Rio Games, has similarly added its support for an inquiry.

Brazilian police have also issued arrest warrants for its three directors, who include Eamonn Collins, a football agent representing players among them Town striker Daryl Murphy and former Blues loanee Connor Sammon.

Pro 10’s statement reads: "A Commission of Investigation should be established speedily; investigate all relevant facts and report its conclusions in the shortest possible time. We understand that the terms of any investigation should respect the Brazilian legal process.

"We have nothing to hide and are therefore anxious that the full facts are established and made public as soon as possible so that our good name can be exonerated.”

Pat Hickey, the OCI president and head of the European Olympic Committees, who was arrested at his hotel on Wednesday, was discharged from hospital last night, having been taken there after complaining of chest pains, and was taken to a police station where he has been questioned.

A judge has reportedly denied bail to the 71-year-old, who has temporarily stepped down from all his Olympic positions.

With Mallon & Hickey both in jail, and them overlooking the fact that 71 year old Hickey has no doubt had a minor heart attack due to this scare, I tend to think that Mevans will be concerned. And if he isn't, I think he should be. I've read about 6 other publications over this and it ain't going to "go away". As said, he better be drilling his bestest lawyers for this one.

Make of this what you will, wtf is Ambush Marketing.

The owner of Ipswich Town Football Club has been charged in connection with a ticket-touting case during the Olympic Games in Rio last month.

Marcos Kac, a state prosecutor, said he had decided to charge the Mr Evans and nine others with ticket scalping, conspiracy and ambush marketing, after reviewing the police investigation.

Mr Evans, who runs his own sports hospitality company, has denied the allegations.

I'm in the camp that thinks he'll most likely slip away from this relatively unscathed other than his tarnished reputation but given his wealth he'll probably not be too bothered so long as he escaped imprisonment.
