Jonathan Williams

Post by Mach_Polish_Blue » Sat Dec 10, 2016 10:52 pm

4 appearances in Euro 2016 that includes semi-final against Portugal.

Somehow though never good enough to earn a starting place in pathetic Championship strugglers and dinosaurs called Ipswich Town.

Bizarre isn't it?

Best for him to cut short this loan spell and look for the different options in January.

Agreed. No real point in him being here. Great shame, but MM would rather have another defensive- minded player to protect his celebrated back four. Can't really see a player like Williams or Bishop getting a real run in the side.
Luke Hyam- when fit - would have more chance of getting into that midfield to add more ballast.

I think MM remains worried about Williams' injury record, and becoming a target for opposing players. That, together with his adherence to 4-4-2, where fitting in JW - whose best position is just off a target man - becomes a problem. However, to get a player of Williams' flair and creativity into the team, MM should change the system. Move from risk averse, epitomised by Skuse and Douglas, and release the shackles. I'm hoping that we might see this against B'ham.

I'm not sure I agree. Williams is fit now for a while. There's no point in loaning him if MM is too scared to use him. What I do think though is that maybe he's just not showing in training and other games right now. Apparently he did little of note in the U23s game that we played last time out. If that's true then maybe it's best that he's not thrown on in desperation as he could be underwhelming, as he has been once or twice already.

Just sayin'.

Not meaning to change the direction of the thread, but as you've mentioned Birmingham, I feel compelled to say; very difficult night ahead. They are 0-3, 0-4 last two games and they'll be out to correct that, at home. With the nature of the league, could potentially be a total ITFC a$$ ramming.

Understood. Could be a combination of both - JW not playing at full throttle through fear of getting clogged, needing more minutes to gain confidence; whilst in tight, physical, Cship matches MM won't risk him, preferring to go with what he sees as tough, uncompromising, warriors who make us solid etc. If that's the case, then we're spending a lot of money on effectively a 'Cinderella' player!

(In that U-23 game, a few 1st team regulars didn't cover themselves in glory, btw)

Yep! I know folk who are making the trip up there. Could be a fairly quiet journey home - but.....knowing us!

To bring back to the original subject...

Why oh why waste money on his wages if we have no intention of using his talent, this absolutely defies logic.

Exactly, and on same line, it keeps fans thinking that' we are' spending money,
when in fact we are 'wasting money' and have no funds to bring in a player who will be able
to or can contribute.. because theres nothing left in the cracked pot.

He's out for 12 weeks having slipped at Wigan and injured himself.

Never known a club have so many sick notes as we do.

Feck me they must be costing the country a fortune in Employment Support Allowance!

Bad news for the player and I hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Got to admit.... will we miss him?

He's been under-used when fit, so this is more of a blow for the player than ITFC.

Just seemed a weird signing and perhaps more to appease fans, rather than a major part of MM's plans.

Does anyone else feel this is all a bit odd? He ws linked with a move to a PL only last week...... has told his friends he'd regretted returning to Town ( due to lack of playing time once fit), and now is suddenly injured again and will no doubt return to Palace....... WHEN did the player get this injury ...?

This has been a complete and utter bloody waste of time....for the third time !!!! he came here unfit and with a reputation of being a bloody sicknote and so it has proved again, just as well we haven't played him as it has kept him fit for a week or Two longer.

I am trying to recall exactly when he hit the track at Wigan, probably in the fog so who knows.

Its conspiracy theory time .... and with no inside info to back this up .... but just seems that there are certain players who get injured far too much and/or conveniently are unselectable and disappear. Going back to last year, Parr's and Oar's contracts were ended. Parr never really given a chance and going back to Norway citing a pregnant wife as the reason. Conor Grant shipped back to Everton as there was no place for him. Just makes me wonder about Williams injury - was this a new injury OR was this an operation he needed for a while and thought things aren't going so well here and as playing time is limited - so I might as well take the 12 weeks off now with Mick's blessing. We've got players who are undroppable and big favourites who are never long-term injured ... and yet we've got players who are always injury-prone/not selected. Just saying.

The number of players who have been injured for a period of time in the past few years is a joke.

McGoldrick, Bishop, Smith, Hyam, Pitman, Williams, Coke (ok we may have got lucky there).

Sounds more like Emergency Ward 10 than a football club.

DB he actually doesn't want to be at ITFC now. "Wished he hadn't come back".
