Crazy money for a 32 year old! I'd be very tempted, if we could re-invest that on some promising youngsters that would be a good deal.

We need to replace Murphy's physical presence tbh. Not an easy task IMO.

If we were to sell him( and that's a lot of money to turn down for a 32 year old)
I know Mike will be happy, as Leeds have sign Chris Woods!
So he won't be back!

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread
Reluctantly, I would sell him for £4.5m.
Age is not on his side and overall I think it would be the most sensible thing to do.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread
Yes it would be good money but where can you get another striker replace those goals and his strength and chasing down he makes. I can't see us selling to one of our Championship rivals and making them stronger. Maybe if a Premier League club came in with a higher bid, but for me this would be a massive backwards step by the club selling not just your top scorer but in the Championships last season.
Interesting source has come from the Irish Sun, no idea how reliable that is?

Ironically if we were to sell him then Chris Wood might be the ready made replacement

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread
MM's comments in today's local press don't fill me with rock-solid confidence. Comments such as:
'We don't want to loose him.......are speaking with DM and his agent......but every player has his price.....' Etc.
We'll have to wait and see. For sure, M'boro will not find another Patrick Bamford for that money, and doubt if he will return on loan next season. That said, am not suggesting a like-for-like comparison; rather that M'boro seem to believe that DM can deliver within their system.
Taking MM at his word, there may be an offer that proves too good to refuse; suspect in Murphy's case, it will come down to how he and his family feel about moving to another Cship side - even if the money is better - against remaining settled, and highly valued, here. However, would think MM is actively looking around now for a suitable replacement, should the worst happen.

Speaking to a Leicester fan at work he said he really rates Chris Wood, but feels because of his injuries he was not going to be effective for us, he said he thought if he had a good pre-season and got fully fit he would score plenty in the champ.Dubai Blue wrote:Ironically if we were to sell him then Chris Wood might be the ready made replacement
Maybe we just never saw his potential, he has been good at this level at many clubs, but never impressed me when I saw him in a town shirt.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread
For me it isnt about the goals, we have Four strikers now that can all score a fair share of goals so we won't be relying on Murphy to plunder 27 goals which is an obscene number for one player, I am more concerened with what else he brings to the table, a big imposing character that works the CB's for the whole game, he roughs them up etc, then his running of the channels, his pace is very deceptive and a good weapon for us, his defensive work is first class and not many Strikers in this division come close to him on that score.
4.5 Million is in truth a very good fee for a 32 year old but if we really don't need to sell then I hope we don't, especially to a potential rival in the play off race, that for me would be stupid, I don't think any of us could begrudge Murph a move to the Premier League especially if we bag say 5 million for him. For what it's worth I think he will still be with us come August 8th.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread
As much as I like Murphy that is a decent offer with the possibility of Husband as a sweetener does make it a bit easier to digest. I do not know if we could or would replace him and with whom but he will not have another season like the one just gone. Sure MM and TC have a few possible ideas

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread
Woods has signed for dirty Leeds. I think its dumb to sell our hard working top goalscorer to one of our main rivals regardless of the money. If Murphy wants to go and his head is turned then thats something different.
If its true as said hes happy and settled here then its a no brainer. A crack at the premiere league with a club like WBA or Liecester you could forgive and fully understand. Boro forget it.

If he really loves Suffolk as we keep getting told then no way will he go to live in that shithole on Teeside.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread
Dubious 'make-weight' LB? No thanks. George Friend in the mix might alter the situation - but unlikely. Unless it's a PL club, then can see no advantage in DM moving on. What would it cost us to replace him - and not just for his goal scoring qualities? Is there a potential PL loanee available with DM's experience, strength on and off the ball who could make a similar contribution on a consistent basis, and who we could afford? If so, he probably wouldn't be available! Hope ME/MM do all they possibly can to hold on to him. If necessary, in recognition of his outstanding contribution last term, match whatever terms M'boro are offering.
Or do we accept the offer, and reinvest for the greater good of the squad? Tricky decisions owner and manager to wrestle with!

MM wants to keep Murphy. If the player still wants to stay with Town , they can shove their bid!

Least we signed that Arsenal winger now, not sure if he'll get in the first team, might be a good impact sub bring on. But then there is the likes of Henshall and Stewart who can't get in the team and even add Connolly to that equation...

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread
MM has said in the past that he likes to play Loans if they're good enough. I can't imagine Wenger would have let the youngster go, if Maitland-Niles was gonna sit on the bench. I'd expect to see him starting more than just a few games.James Scharmann wrote:J4ck22 wrote:True, but wrong thread mate.James Scharmann wrote:I can't believe what a cruel way to go out an own goal in injury time, that is just heart brakingTell late night, oh man when I woke up this morning I was thinking where did my post now I know

1 paper (the sun northern edition) is saying, "Liverpool left back Brad Smith 21, is being targeted by Ipswich as a replacement for Mings". He is Australian International who I have never heard of!!

Probably aimed at cover/ competition for Parr. MM wants a squad of 22 I think. Thats 2 players for every position. Good to keep players on their toes .

Still hoping for a creative midfielder type as Mick knows too well, we need. Didsy has been mentioned as he has not got the real pace for an out and out striker, but has an eye and the ability to unlock a defence

I'd gladly take the first one. As for Morston, well the second word is "......... OFF" the useless ex scummer. His scoring record is utter crap.
