I think Maisie is the one you really miss.
Oh yeah....., Oor Maze?! Forgot all about him/her!

His/her replies were awesome. Always had to think for a few seconds before replying. Pretty sure he/she was a journalist!

Billy Barmy
What was apology about? No, you didn't mis-read my comments so stop acting like that as you embarrass yourself now. You took your accusations out of nowhere. Literally, out of nowhere.
And you talk about decency. Dear me ! If you yourself had a decency you'd have said that your accusations were completely wrong and took them out of nowhere as you were lying. That makes your apology completely meaningless as you don't want to hold your hands up and admit your attitude towards me was terrible.
My suspection is that you were creating lies to snipe at me as we have had completely different views in Mick Out thread.
My rudeness? You and your lies have caused the fire.
Anyway for once I'll agree with you as it's best to stop continuing that.

I am so flattered I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Your comments are so wide of the mark it is untrue. Let me put you straight MPB.
I am 66 years old and was taken to my first game at Portman Road when I was 5 or 6: for some reason Aldershot come to mind as the opposition. Some sixty years later I am still and ardent fan although I no longer attend all home games. Those I miss I listen to and I have always looked forward to reading your post-match reports.
So I hope you will understand how misplaced your comments are and respond accordingly.
Hey BB you and I must have been kicking around Ipswich about the same time in our youth, did you play local Ioswich & District Saturday and/or Sunday League football.... who knows we may have been kicking the hell out of each other back in the 60's/70's.

I was actually brought up outside Ipswich and played football for Benhall St Mary. I thought it was the Leiston League, but I do remember playing matches in Bourne Park and the big pitch beside the railway line at the bottom of Birkfield Drive. In my early twenties I worked at the Port of Felixstowe for a time where I played for a dock team called Armada. I recall teams like Alson Villa, Murray Road Rangers and was it Italia United. Good days.
Suffice to say, I was not very good.

I now she's a norwich city fan and I have no issues with ncfc fans who want actually talk about football. The problem I have is when they pretend to be Town fans on here ( and there have been many), who then persist in trolling this forum, offering nothing constructive and basically taking the p*ss out of Town and our fans.
Jo has never done that and has been very open that she is a Norwich fan. Good for her, she's probably enjoying her football at present. I have 3-4 norwich fans who I know personally and speak to face to face. I have no issue with them , and yes we have the usual rivalry banter. Thats totally different to crap that the trolls posts on here. Agai Jo never did that. So I for one would be happy if she posted on here again and we talked football, and had the banter .
Finally and much more imrotant that any football, Im sorry for her recent loss . RIP
Thank you Hallam and i was not directing my first post at you personally, so apologies if given impression i was. Thank you though and i will pass on your words to Jo.Like i will from others
Just to go back to Jo, she has actually met quite a few posters on here. Some still post though others not so much. Dave (Loud and Proud) for example, Earl Blue, Even forget some of the older names like guy from Torquay. Can be passionate about football and our own teams who through thick and thin support without the name bashing. Yes some deserve it by just taunting, loving to cause trouble, always the same. Minority spoils it for the mass
Please pass on my deepest sympathies to Jo for me Steve and as others have said Jo is more than welcome to post on here. There is a world of difference in Norwich fans like Jo posting on here compared to the fools who masquerade as Town fans with the sole intention of winding up and causing unrest etc. Hallam may get a bit of stick for her hard line views on it but on a few occasions in the past she has been spot on where these trolls are concerned. I think we know who the current ones are.

Nothing much on here discussing football as usual. The problem here is EGO. Sad people from the "hat & scarf" brigade who feel they are more worthy than anyone else to be a town fan. ( You only beat me by one year Lizzie darling) To turn a football forum into a war of words and petty rows. I probably remember more about this club than you forgot. I can name the St John ambulance stalwarts from the early 1970,s...."Swede".......the ball boys.....and even the lads carrying the sweets round the pitch for "Stadia Catering" because I was one of them. To even think about contacting the club to see if i am a season ticket holder is beyond any rational thinking. Even my wife had to laugh at that one. Then guessing i don,t know any Ipswich songs ? How pathetic. Did you travel to that away match bla bla bla People who become cyber bullies often find others to help to gang up on someone.Anyone who has a different or a poor opinion after a sad loss gets it . No mention of the "Well Done" messages i have previously put on here when the team has won. Anyone can throw nasty accusations at someone via a keyboard. Most of the replies are just out to offend and insult old buggers like me regardless. I would never use such language or throw out silly "budgie" accusations without any evidence what so ever. The "Norwich Scummer" label is just being used to ramp up the insults. When the recipient is banned from the forum for retaliating or leaves the forum then the little gang can find someone else to pick on. Calling them names like troll and scum and disgusting. So called adults behaving like children. Name calling did not bother me at school and it does not bother me now. I feel sorry for ya.

Who was that funny little St John chap who paraded past Churchmans each week for donkeys years? About 5 foot nothing and 6 stone, and wore a bloody great cap. Could barely carry his bag let alone a corner of a stretcher. I remember taking a mate who had not been for many years and I think seeing this little bloke after such a long time had him in stitches. He couldn't believe he was still around.

I know the little chap you mean....little guy with milk bottle glasses on the end of his nose. He was a St johns ambulance volunteer since 1968 aged 16 .I think he is still alive, aged about 63. The other first aider was the "carribean man" Mr Green. They both trudged around the pitch to the dug outs at each end of the north stand.Bless them. The Cater family were the king pins of the the St Johns Ambulance. Do you remember "Swede" with his knitted jumper, rosette and walking stick. Great memories of a homely club. Now ruined by the modern day businessman only in it for the money. Just look at clubs like Everton FC who fund street parties, buy xmas toys for the sick children, free tickets for the unemployed, fund food parcels and some players chip in the kitty for the homeless. ( hope the new owners carry on Bill Kenwrights legacy) I just hope one day we have a visible chairman who can use that Everton community type spirit. The sooner Evans makes an effort the better.

Who could forget Swede with his foghorn voice and unshaven face: I seem to remember he was a bus conductor. I also thought of the spongeman. Ugly old devil who I think was called (not certain) Jimmy Forsyth. He ran some sort of massage parlour on Felixstowe Road, I think.
I always remember a game in the late 60's/early 70's when the Everton keeper Gordon West trotted out for the second and took a final drag on his fag before stamping it out on the edge of the pitch. Priceless.
It all seemed so much more fun back then.

There were lots of names from the past that appeared, not just Kennedy, but Keano's the Man, Magilton's Marvels and Magilton 'till he dies, to name but a few. I think in the end they were all exposed as fans from say 'another club side' but masqueraded long enough to get away with one or two things. Seem to remember Mr Clarke was issuing suspensions and expulsions at a rate a day for a time, such was the magnitude of certain individuals.
Just for the record I read through the most recent posts regards the club from years past and it was an interesting insight into a time that many would have been unaware.
PS Steve and Jo : the name you couldn't remember is Riviera. Sorry to hear about your bereavement also, condolences at this difficult time.

Apols BB I hadn't seen your post about Swede....
Jimmy Forsyth it was and there's a famous picture of him somewhere fully clothed in the bath with some of the Town players after we won the League title in 1962.
You may recall he was also appointed caretaker manager when Jackie Milburn was sacked and before Bill McGarry arrived.
Now there's a blast from the past....

I used to stand right at the front of the North stand leaning on the wall, watching him amble round the pitch , waving his Blue n White striped walking Stick. He had a Blue n White knitted jumper , bobble hat and huge big Town rosette on his chest, and he rattled one of those big wooden rattles ( you wouldn't be allowed in the ground with now I suspect).
In those days you used to get to the ground early to get a good spot to watch from. We used to be down at the ground at 12noon and get in as soon as the gates opened, lol...... how times have changed :

Remember Swede walking around the pitch. Hallam, as you say used to get down to the ground really early to get a good spot, when I told K this she couldn't believe that fans got there at that time for a game! I can remember several times when SBR came and had a chat with us whilst waiting for the turnstiles to open.
Also, told K about how there was a place in Churchman's for the invalid carriages to go. As you say how times have changed. Never forget the record crowd (38,010) for the Leeds FA Cup game, couldn't even get me hands in my pockets let alone try and move!

I remember standing just back from the wall at the front of the old East Stand when some wag had a go at Jimmy Robertson (brilliant winger). 'Fuuuuck. What do you know' replied Robertson and really swore at this fan. The fan was humiliated.

Leeds FA cup , oh yes..... It took me 45 mins to get up the steps at the back of the NS top get into the back of the stand. When I got there , there was just this sea of faces in the crowd. Your arms were either up above you head (to clap) or pinned down by your sides , lol...and then there was the thin "blue line" separating the Leeds and Town fans in the NS. Awesome atmosphere and when a Town fan feinted with the heat : he couldn't fall to the ground, the fans lifted him up above head height and passed him down to the waiting St Johns on the pitch . Poor devil lol

PS Steve and Jo : the name you couldn't remember is Riviera. Sorry to hear about your bereavement also, condolences at this difficult time.
Thank you Saint Jude, Jo did tell me. Great she knows more about members/past members than i do.. Should i be worried?
Tomorrow is going to be hard, Funeral.. Little insight. Jo's father actually was a goalkeeper on Southend United books in the 60's. In those days not every club had specialist keeper coaches like now. So he traveled to WestHam's training ground where several other keepers all came together every so often. So he has trained with Peter Bonetti and Pat Jennings.
His professional career was cut short though when Grays Athletic signed him and he earnt more money playing Semi Pro than he did being a professional footballer
My first game was around 1973 when we played Leicester City. Was privileged to sit up with the Cobbolds. My Aunt through marriage is related to them

Here BB, that famous picture I was talking about with Jimmy Forsyth in the bath fully clothed with some of the Town players from l-r, part in picture Jimmy Leadbetter, Roy Bailey, Ted Phillips, Larry Carberry and behind Jimmy Forsyth captain Andy Nelson. Hidden by his arm looks like Ray Crawford.
Picture was taken on 28 April 1962 after we'd just beaten Aston Villa 2-0 at Portman Road to win the League Championship. I was there behind the goal in Churchmans Stand and spent most of the game on the pitch perimeter to the left of the goal post.... how many others were there that day?

Me not very good either BB tho somehow I managed to keep playing till I was nearly 40.
I played a lot of football on Bourne Park, firstly for Nicholians although mostly for their reserve team and then moved on to Avocet FC ( I think that's how it was spelt.) in the Ipswich & District League. Sunday mornings played in the Licenced Trades League for The Smock. I also played one season on Gypswick Park beside the railway line but can't remember the name of the team although I do remember playing against Murray Road Rangers and I think Italia United. When I moved to Norwich I played a couple of seasons for Easton in the Norwich & Norfolk League and for Galleywood in the Essex a League in Chelmsford in the late 70's, although by then i was more interested in watching Bobby Robsons Town team and playing football was limited to Sunday mornings. I finished up playing in a friendly league in Colchester with a great bunch of lads which included a couple of ex Pro's from Colchester United and we had a lot of fun together.
