Just under 3 hours until KO. It's a dull, grey, damp day here in Ipswich and unseasonally mild.
So, let's hope that we can get a positive result, with a performance that gives us something to lift the gloom, give hope, and get this season going. COYBs!

Pat, if I pm you my bank details, any chance of chucking some dough in there? Come on, mate....., it seems you've got a few quid to burn?!patthegimp wrote:Just put £10 on ITFC to finish in play-offs and the same on Leeds to win league. Have faith in Mick and the team and please get behind them.
COYB

There is more chance of me saying, "my goodness these Brussels sprouts are amazing" on Christmas Day than ITFC making the play offs.

Have to admire Pat's faith and optimism! Half season to go, he might yet have the last laugh - or fart!

It definitely is just faith and optimism. A team with this form ------>
Bristol City 2-0 Ipswich Town
Ipswich Town 3-0 QPR
Ipswich Town 0-2 Nottingham F.
Sheffield Wed 1-2 Ipswich Town
Ipswich Town 2-2 Rotherham
------> I'd be going no where close to them with a cash bet for success. They are all over the place.

Given current roller coaster form, today should be a win

I see Sol Bamba got sent off for "offensive language"! I wondered where he learnt that!

Toothless performance again IMO.
Town couldn't knock the skin off a rice pudding.
The team is devoid of a leader, attacking know how, confidence, and an owner who has clearly lost interest in his toy.
Town are a pale, pale shadow of the Club that once was.
Last person leaving switch the lights out please,

Together with the Brass Band, and the plucky cheer leaders trying to do their routines to Xmas Carols, the Bamba show was the best in Town today!

Saw some highlights...... I think Sol may have been a tad pi$$ed off with Douglas' side boot into the shin/ankle area and nothing was given. No idea what Douglas was doing and why the ref didn't give anything. Obviously couldn't control his anger after that. Looked a sore one though.
Nice finish by Varney, although I'd doubt the Cardiff defence and goalkeeper want to see it again.

Most in the ground had no idea what Douglas was doing - for around 80 mins. Very ironic applause when he was finally removed. (Not particularly nice to hear, but MM must take a large slice of responsibility for selecting him. Simply not good enough.)marko69 wrote:Saw some highlights...... Had a chuckle seeing the Warnock/Bamba scene, but not because of that......., in the foreground, Pitman steps forward to offer his tuppence ha'penny worth. Brett, if you read this forum, when waiting to come on as sub, stfu mate.

I know, I was just on about the very loud, ironic cheering when he was substituted. Which, now that I think about it seemed louder than our goal...marko69 wrote:Obviously I was only speaking about that one incident.J4ck22 wrote:That will do wonders for his confidence.herforder wrote:

Re: Ipswich Town vs Cardiff City Preview & Matchday Thread
Just another dull, mundane, boring, uninspring, sluggish, tedious, lazy, backward, pointless, passionless, listless, clueless, mindnumbing, heartless, drab, uninteresting pile of sh*te, and now for the bad points.......
I am just kinda losing the will to live now where ITFC are concerned of late, from the very first few seconds of the game when Webster launched it cross field and woefully out of play I knew it was going to be another one of those days. I felt sure Williams would start today but he didnt even get a sub appearance today FFS. To be fair the first half was about as even as it gets, Cardiff rattled the post early doors while Amos in the Cardiff goal spilled a Chambers header but Lawrence was unable to find the target with the keeper redeeming himself. Bart then saved well before bravely punching clear from Lambert as he charged into the keeper. Didsy then had a couple of efforts which rarely troubled the keeper. We then contrived to gift another crap team the lead and again it was Bart with a howler, dropping a simple catch to Gunnarsson who could not miss, it gave us a mountain to climb and which even at that stage you felt was too much for us.
We did start the second half quite well and got back level thanks to varneys strike which took a deflection, game on and all to play for. Sadly we really struggled to take the game to them and even the ridiculous Red card failed to work in our favour, in fact it had an adverse effect on us as they stood firm with Two bank of Four in front of the keeper and tried to waste time at every opportunity, we jsut arent good enough or wise enough to capitalise on it. In fact the last few minutes you could be forgiven for thinking it was us down to Ten men as Cardiff looked as likely as us to score the winner.
For me Tom Lawrence was our best player today while Didsy & Webster did some good things without being anything special, Berra made a good block at one point and Bart a decent save, apart from that, crap. Skuse and Douglas created little, Ward looks like a rabbit in the headlights, Chambers & knudsen look to hoof it or get rid of it as quickly as they can, no attempt to charge down the touchline and support the attack, Varney nowhere near as effective as against QPR, Bart has looked very poor in the punching & kicking department of late, someone told me Bishop came on late in the game but I must have nodded off cus i didnt see him, Pitman was obviously rusty and it showed in his touch while Sears made one ok run and that was that.
Bart (5) Chambers (5) Berra (6) Webster (6) Knudsen (5) Ward (5) Skuse (6) Douglas (5) Lawrence (7) Varney (6) Didsy (7)
SUBS :- Sears (5) Pitman (5) Bishop (5)
I've always maintained I have no concerns at all about relegation and I stick by that but somehow somewhere we need a spark, we need to cut out the stupid individual errors, we need players to stand up like Lawrence and run at defenders, bust a gut to get the cross in, we need runs into the box, at times there was One player at the most and that is no good, this is crying out for Williams to come in and while I certainly don't hold Douglas responsible anymore than anyone else for poor performances it will be him to drop out. I fully expect us to limp through to the transfer window and then bring in a couple of new faces which will freshen it up a bit but most certainly will not be world beaters by any means. The season is passing us by and we still sit Six off the top Six and Five off the bottom Three, that's a nothing season so far. Too many players have gone into their shells and seem scared stiff, bereft of any confidence or self belief. Birmingham & Wigan away up next, gonna need some points from those Two. I really don't know where I stand with MM right now, it's one of those that if he stays its "oh well" and if he goes its "whatever", thank you and goodbye.

Re: Ipswich Town vs Cardiff City Preview & Matchday Thread
Thank for the report Mike. It's not what I wanted to read but much in line with what I expected. To be honest this team bores me shitless and I'm gradually losing interest. I had planned to travel to Birmingham on Tuesday for my first game of the season having travelled back from Spain yesterday, but I simply can't be bothered and don't want to waste either my time or money.
Whilst I've lost much of my respect for MM who I don't think helps himself with either his team selections or his tactics, I don't think there's much point changing him whilst Marcus Evans owns the club.
ME's Ownership of our football club is the root of the problem and so long as his ownership continues we're going nowhere and sadly I can only see the situation getting worse.
I hope this isn't an over reaction but simply an explanation of how I feel right now.

Yer, I said that to a work colleague at the start of the season, when he said narwich would be in play offs. I just laughed and said they are a mid table outfit, and that your lot seem to believe they are gods gift for some reason.
I wouldn't bother to exchange your yella n green scarf for a Red one len, do what we Town fans do,
just burn it!

You're alright Charney. Every fan appears to eventually come to the same conclusion that you have now done, and Mike has increasingly voiced. We all have different levels of patience. I lost mine a season ago.
The thing that strikes me about MM is he and TC, is they have a very rigid game plan. It doesn't matter who we are playing, it's the same game plan. We set up to keep it tight and not conceded. Ideally to go in at half time 0-0. This pattern continues into the search on half, and then all being well if the game is still evens, he'll stick on a more attacking player....... usually around the 70th min, and essentially try and "nick" the game. The brown stuff hits the cab when the back four decide to gift a soft goal, which we did again today.
We have some decent players in the squad and some very decent youngsters just waiting to get their chance to shine. But in truth they stand little chance under Mick tenure. He likes his "real blokes", that can win a battle. He's afraid to attack, and doesn't know how to do so , and, keep a tight back line. The problem is the squad now looks totally devoid of confidence, and playing at home is pressurised. The atmosphere is not aggressive just flat as ditch water .
Evans has to make his intentions, PLAN known to the fans. It's only a matter of weeks now before the Club will be after ST renewals. They are going to be in for one he'll of a shock, unless Evans does something perceived as positive.
