Re: League Cup - Ipswich Town vs Bristol Rovers Preview & Matchday Thread
All I got is a 1 - 0 lead, thought by this stage we would have had a larger advantage but a lead's a lead. Just gone into this game blind, don't know how well we've played or if value for the advantage but guess stay with it until the end.
There'll be a less strength starting Xi with no need to check but once again thought we'd be further ahead by this point of game against this level of opposition. I want to do well in this, maybe we won't win it but continued progress would be all well and good and something to encourage.

It's 2 - 0 now ? That should do it, Aluko got the goal I think. Bristol made a fight of it maybe but that second goal should ensure victory and further progress. This'll go just fine with the Sunderland victory.
Chaplin is playing by all account, believe Broadhead left out for this event. Jackson involved also, it's good to see certain names participating and doing well. Would assume Snicker in goal, don't think Vaclav would be used for a game of this nature.

Hell they don't waste no time do they
It's a win by two goals to their none. Still need to ascertain just how we played but Bristol Rovers would have had their moments and chances. I think it indicates we showed enough character to make it through, years back under different managers and playing staff we would have fell at the first hurdle.
Hope for a favorable tie in the proceeding rounds, say again wish to do well in this here competition.

Agreed, we have a big enough squad to keep the fringe players ticking over nicely. Another home draw would be nice! Certainly don't want a long journey to one of the further away sides in the Southern section!arana peligrosa wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 9:49 pmHope for a favorable tie in the proceeding rounds, say again wish to do well in this here competition.

Pert says that Edwards is fit and trained well this morning, so something is going on.

Unable to follow tonight’s game but it sounds like a very professional performance and a comfortable win by all accounts. It seems to me that every game these days we’re well prepared for. Long May it continue.

We were in control first half without creating much. Less in control second half but we did enough to win. Plenty of possession with no real cutting edge. It was just good to be back at PR and two nice goals.

I think this is the first time I’ve watched a complete XI change and the performance STILL look fluid and meaningful albeit at a slightly lower standard from a first XI performance. This Club is improving week by week.

How was Taylor? I suspect he is taking time to adapt to the intense training and requirements here.

He was need and tidy, steady if unspectacular, scored his goal and had another effort cleared off the line.
To be honest they all did well, Eleven changes is never easy but nobody let themselves down. Baggott looks pretty assured at the back, I also really like Greg Leigh, for me he was probably our brightest player on the night, Slicker also looked decent and made a couple of saves when called upon.
There was really little drama about the whole evening in truth, especially first half which was pretty much one way traffic.

We’ve got a new sweeper in the side who happens to wear the GK jersey! You can see he’s been coached by Man City. He’ll be our #1 in the not too distant future I think.

Quite possibly because I can see Walton being omitted from the 25 man squad.hallamblue wrote: ↑Thu Aug 10, 2023 11:18 amWe’ve got a new sweeper in the side who happens to wear the GK jersey! You can see he’s been coached by Man City. He’ll be our #1 in the not too distant future I think.

What was it around 15,000. I think we'd of got around half that for a First Round game in the competition under previous managers but the belief and direction is so different from then.
Not sure what allocation Bristol were given but they brought only some 120 fans for the trip over. That's a meagre number in anyone's estimation although it would have been (in their defense) a long trip over from one side of the country to the other. Maybe expecting to lose also, kind of suggests why a small number.
Reading next isn't it. Not too pleased about it, it's not a home game and it's a tough trip to one of the teams in the higher leagues. Would have preferred a home tie against lesser opposition.

Think they’re in the incredibly shitty League One, Saint.arana peligrosa wrote: ↑Thu Aug 10, 2023 1:33 pmReading next isn't it. Not too pleased about it, it's not a home game and it's a tough trip to one of the teams in the higher leagues.
