Smart investors like a period of bear market - it’s a chance to buy things at a discounted price, ie a company or asset driven down by market forces rather than its own performance.
I bought some shares in solid companies like Microsoft during covid, as the company was doing fine but the market had dragged the share price down.
The super wealthy will generally look to invest in things which are ‘on sale’, as it’s easier to make a return on them. If house prices dropped then they’d buy those, stocks go down then they’ll try and buy towards the bottom of the dip etc.
A lot of investors will also switch between gold and stocks depending on the value of each.
Pension funds surely are in it for the long term - a small market drop (even 2-3 years) shouldn’t worry if in it for the long term - and is actually a good time to boost your dollar cost averaging when investing over a long period.
That strategy certainly did not work in the crash of '98.
Not many buy much in a bear market, if they did then bear would quickly turn into bull and global markets need a bear period every so often to even things out.
Yes, pension funds are by and large in it for the long run, and short-term increases/decreases are part of the picture. However, pension funds employ a number of highly paid investment strategists who van and do quickly pull the plug when they think it necessary.

the tariffs are to level the import /export playing field. only 11% of the US ECONOMY is export.
That is because all countries pound the US with tariff's and make US goods very expensive.
Trump will change that and the Markets are rebounding while countries negotiate reciprocal tariff's.
The fear mongering and speculation over this is absurd.
Pay your fair share and all will be fine .
10% for the UK is not a fair share - all available data suggests that 3 or 4 percent is much nearer the mark. The formula used to calculate the deficits is flawed and unbelievably biased toward the US.
The notion that Trump paused tariffs for 90 days in order to allow countries to negotiate reciprocal tariffs is pure fantasy - fact is that Trump (or more likely his aids) realized that immediate tariffs would give the US no chance to stockpile many of the commodities they need for manufacturing.
And the trade war with China is utterly ridiculous, and will hit US consumer prices hard, not to mention manufacturing when parts required by US assembly factories are not available. Good for China for being the only country to stand up for themselves against Trump's bullying.
25% tariff on cars is ridiculous - there's a reason why the UK and Europe don't import many vehicles from the US, which is that they're not very good and there are better options on the home markets. Else, why does the US import so many high end British and European cars?
The citizens of the US will suffer under Trump's policies, I'm bloody glad I don't live there.
I live here and don't believe what you read on leftist news sites , prices here are just fine.
I also have American cars that are top notch. very few British cars over here by the way.
European cars here are so called status symbols and are extremely expensive.
Do you think your country is doing well under your current regime ?
Trump is doing what most AMERICANS VOTED FOR.
Leftist sites?

. I read/view media from all over the world, many which are die-hard conservative.
No, I don't think the UK is doing particularly well at the moment, but a hell of a lot better than the US.
Trump has his own agenda, and does only what he wants. He's had the same thoughts on tariffs for years but it seems to me that he hasn't adapted his thinking at all from a few years ago when world conditions were very different. A good leader is adaptable.
Incidentally, can I ask you, as an obvious Trump supporter, what you thought of his (and of that buffoon VP of his) performance with Zelensky? Were you not embarrassed by 2 bullies staging a show to publicly humiliate a world leader? And do you not see that his ridiculous claim that he would end the Ukrainian conflict in 24 hours shows him for what he really is? My God, how people in the UK, and in the Philippines where I am at present, laugh at him.

Not that i know anything about the American voting system or their politics, but didn't Harris actually get more individual votes than Trump, but Trump won more states? Most I assume in the southern states with few population than say California, or some Northern States?

Read on ‘Not Fake News, Honestly’, recently that Donald Trumpet was actually born female and changed both his gender and name.
There’s footage caught on camera.

That's a pretty strong statement about Zelensky. You got any concrete proof?
I don't care how many people migrate to the UK, as long as they work and pay their taxes.
Yes, I would assume you're a fan of Reform. as Trump and Farage appear to share many Far Right ideals. Be careful, to put it in the words of Basil Fawlty, that's exactly how Nazi Germany started.
And FYI - my politics are slightly right of centre, I'm definitely no leftie

Yesterday I bought a bagel for $3.
Now I have a $3 trade deficit with the bagel shop! So I'm imposing a 145% reciprocal trade tariff on them.
Today my bagel cost me $7.35. Art of the Deal!

Far left rhetoric? The Nazi doctrine was pretty much how the far right (Reform, Trump) sees things, as far as the country is king and all that.
Trump wants to take over Gaza. He wants to take over Greenland - he says the US needs it for National Security.: and he even disputes Denmark's right of sovereignty over it in spite of the fact that for over 200 years nobody (not even the WTO) has cast any doubt on the matter. This taking over of countries sounds pretty much like what the Nazis did in Europe to me. Fortunately, over 80% of Greenlanders say they don't want to become part of USA, which just goes to show how intelligent they are.
Oh yeah, and the Nazi's wanted to exterminate a complete race, but I guess the Americans did that years ago

close yes, because of voter fraud.
dead people and undocumented immigrants were allowed to vote in certain states.

Strategic location of Greenland , we already have a base there, and had submarines based there in WW2, in the future England will be glad it happens.
Arctic areas will be sought by Russia and China, maybe others. Greenland included, this is strategic.
kind of like how we have bases all over Europe and the rest of the world to protect it and us.
how many people did the colonizing of nations by England kill? wink wink.
SOME of the thing he says are tongue and cheek, like Canada becoming the 51st state.
The Nazi's disarmed their people, that's how they grew, that will never happen here.

Yes, but the US is not alone in having bases all over the world - many countries choose to operate military bases across the globe for security reasons. But they are content to have their base and leave the running of the country housing that base to that country's government - unlike the US who seems to think it has the God-given right to take anything it wants. It's obvious that Russia and China are a threat to the rest of the world, and NATO was doing a pretty good job of being in the way of that happening until Trump's ego got in the way and he decided that it would be he that was the saviour of the world.
