Town are close to confirming the signing of QPR striker Macauley Bonne on a season-long loan.
TWTD revealed earlier that the Blues are targeting the 25-year-old but we understand the deal is much further progressed than we initially reported and could be announced as soon as today.
Rumours that Bone was interesting the Blues first surfaced in mid-May when there were claims that the Ipswich-born Zimbabwe international would be part of a swap deal with Andre Dozzell.
This was dismissed at the time - Dozzell eventually made the move for a £1 million fee - and earlier this month reports in West London indicated that Rangers wanted to keep hold of Bonne despite a first season at Loftus Road in which he scored only three goals in nine starts and 26 sub appearances.
However, we understand Paul Cook is very keen to bring Bonne back to Town, where he was a schoolboy in the academy and QPR are more open to the move than had been previously suggested, although on loan rather than permanently.
Having been released by the Blues, the one-time Chantry High School pupil moved on to Norwich’s youth set-up and then Colchester where he broke into their first team early in the 2013/14 season.
While at the JobServe Community Stadium he spent time on loan at Lincoln City and Woking and in his four years with the U’s netted 15 times in 25 starts and 59 sub appearances.
Bonne moved to Leyton Orient in July 2017 where he enjoyed an impressive two years scoring 45 goals in 89 league starts and one sub appearance.
That form attracted Charlton Athletic, who he joined in June 2019 and where he found the net 12 times in 32 starts and eight sub appearances before moving to QPR for a reported £2 million in October last year.
Here ya go ….

I know nothing about this player….but trust Cooks judgement, because I’ll wager he’s a significant step up from Jackson and Drinan.

McCauley Bonne coming here on a season long loan?

Have to say - this doesn’t get me that excited.
3 goals in 34 games last year for QPR. Not that exciting. Mind you, playing 34 games at Championship level - nothing to be sniffed at. Hmmmm… think we can do better.
With a name like Bonne he must be good!

On reflection- surely he must be an upgrade on Drinan, Jackson, Sears and Hawkins.
Did see he scored 11 in 33 for Charlton in the Championship a couple of years ago. It could be he fits in a Cook team. There’s been rumours about him for a couple of months, so I don’t think this is a panic buy.

Assuming we are going to bring in another forward we need to move Jackson on more than Drinan as Jackson can't play up front in Cooks system.

That's Four signings, more to come, the worrying can stop for a bit. Wasn't a name that excited me when first linked but clearly he's done some decent work at a higher level than League One so he may be an astute signing, if we must have a loan or Two season long loans are the way to go.

Looks like Ben Amos is off to Wigan on a three year deal, let's hope Benjamin Siegrist is on his way to Town.

Drinan going to Orient.
https://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/ipswich-t ... nt-8090826
Have to say I’m pleasantly surprised that he’s got a club. Thought it was odd we triggered an extension on his contract. I thought we’d be stuck with him. We can’t have got much for him or anything at all, so not sure the point of triggering his contract, but good to see surplus players aren’t sticking around and sitting on contracts. It does feel there’s method to the madness.
Good luck to him - he’s a hard worker, but not much else there and another who’s ended up in L2.

We certainly seem to be to get players out to other clubs, he just wasn't good enough for us but I hope he does well for Orient.

Yep there is definitely method to the madness of executing the options on contracts, even if we got 50k its 50k, I think this new set up are very wise tbh. He was never gonna be the answer and with just Norwood and Bonne here as strikers we will be seeing another striker coming in, unless Jackson makes a bigger comeback than Lazarus and that ain't gonna happen.

It's not gonna happen. Nobody will want a striker who cannot score goals. And he's one of our better earners, no other club would pay him anywhere near what we do so I think he's most likely to just sit around and collect his money next season

I think he will go. Somehow there was interest from a championship club last summer… and the jan window. He did ok when he played in a partnership up front. I think there will be interest (god knows where) and it’s up to Jackson if he wants to run down his career for another year’s pay here OR re-start his career again somewhere else. It’s better to pick up a two or three year contract somewhere else on less money per week than sit around watching your career waste away. Or let’s hope so.

I wondered if Amos didn’t fancy the challenge for the #1 shirt with this Dundee Keeper and do gas chosen Wigan Cuz he’s Ben told he will definitely be their #1 ?
Again, we don’t want players who are coming for an easy ride .

He’s never really taken his Town career by the scruff of the neck and made a statement has he. I always remember his comment ( about his game) when he first joined, saying he was the quickest striker about ( at the level he’d come from ). Sadly pace isn’t everything, and he does look tactically weak. He can only play in a strike duo … which limits him . He’ll go I’m sure but I think it’ll be league one or lower .

As you say very limited, but got pace to burn. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone takes a punt on him based on his speed and thinking they can turn him around. There were some games he looked good playing in a front two last season (11 goals in 32 games). His days were numbered when Lambert went one up top and I don’t know why we didn’t sell last year. No future here and he must know that. And he’s seeing his old team-mates pushed out of the door so surely he’s keen to start afresh.

I haven't seen anything to suggest we were actively trying to sign Amos, just another media link wasn't it ? Either way I still hold out hope of the keeper from Portsmouth anyway.

Haven't been keeping up on all and any transfer activity there, would rather wait until all deals are done ready for a new season and view it from there but understand we've got Bonne and Harper from QPR and WBA respectively, not sure about who else we've brought in and that also included a view of TWTD for additional news stories.
Lankester moved on and no great loss, didn't seem to catch too many headlines last season and would hope for Jackson to follow him through the exit, another forward who rarely makes a name for itself or doesn't seem to contribute as it should. Guess Parrott has returned to Spurs following his seasons loan here, pity really I thought he were a name that could offer something and added some interest to the team.
One of our goalkeepers moved on just recent although can't recall who it were. Not Holy he still remains and while he gets his share of criticism he's only been with us a relatively short time. Guess we're on the lookout for another name for the goal area but where to start. They're not as freely available as other field departments and in truth would be unable to select a name right off the bat. Obviously EPL level is out of the question but Championship league would be a place to enquire if only for a loan period.

TWTD understands Town are closing in on the signing of Salford City's Czech keeper Vaclav Hladky.
The 30-year-old was ever-present for Salford during 2020/21, his first season at the club, making 53 appearances, including their victory in the delayed 2019/20 EFL Trophy final.
Capped by the Czech Republic at U16, U17, U18, U19 and U20 levels, Hladky claimed the League Two Golden Glove award after keeping 22 clean sheets, a place in the PFA League Two Team of the Year and was named the Ammies’ fans’ Player of the Year.
I saw this on Twitter early on but dismissed it but now on front page.

Don't know a thing about Penney but the Salford keeper had a super season and keeping 22 clean sheets is impressive, some will say its League Two level but hardly any difference in truth.

The ex Villa striker ? Can't see that happening, would be quite a signing at L1 level.

A Birmingham player called Hogan , apparently…..but could be just a rumour. I’m hoping we get in that Dundee GK, and a couple of CBs….what do you think?
