Whilst I'd prefer to win Tuesday night v Leeds and lose on Saturdar rather than vis versa, I really can't see us losing at home to Pompey regardless of what team MM puts out. Pompey are in a similar league position to us in League 2 and will be desperate not to miss out on promotion, so likewise may well play a less than full strength side.
Personally I'd like to see us progress in the FA Cup especially if we can avoid injuries as success breeds success.
We play Portsmouth first then Leeds.[/quote]
Exactly my point Lucy..... Not exactly sure what your point is tho'

Not sure why you thought that Lucy, but it doesn't really matter.
It would have suited me to come to Ipswich on Saturday but I don't really want a 290 mile round trip to watch Town Reserves!

I believed we had a game this mid-week, and was wondering why the preview wasn't up but saw it down yesterday that we play the Cup game first on Saturday and revert back to league action thereafter.
A win in the Portsmouth game will be good for morale in subsequent championship fixtures whereas a first time elimination may intrude into the Leeds game and beyond. Best scenario : we get through (without need of a replay) with the players McCarthy selects, then bring the key squad members back into it for league matters and carry on the recent fine run.

Using fringe players is a gamble that can backfire if we are easily beaten but when it works it can really bring players on. I remember our league cup run under Keane and then his assistant which finished with a famous victory and then defeat to Arsenal (was it semi-final). In this competition we used fringe players and then were loyal to them as the big games came on - they for sure benefitted from that.
I would definitely propose doing the same again as we will need some of the fringe players to be stepping up for the second half of the season, especially when the suspensions start in defence in early spring as usual.
