Only 35 to go. With a squad of 25 I don’t think there will be many if any who start every game. If there’s only one, my money based on what I’ve seen so far would be Jacob Greaves.

I don't for one minute think that anyone will start every game but I do think there won't be many start more than Sam Morsy

Re: Morsy
I've just been pondering Morsy's yellow card situation. I believe one more booking over the next 13 games (i think I read somewhere) and he misses the next game.
We know that Sami has gone on long runs before without picking up a yellow, but there seems to be an inevitability that he will get another soon.
While none of us would want to see him get a one match suspension, looking at the fixtures coming up, where do you think the 'best' game for him to miss would be?
With some lower placed teams to play, part of me thinks the sooner the better and I think I'd rather have him missing for a home game.
A booking against West Ham would give us two weeks to prepare for Brentford away admittedly, not that I'm sure it makes any difference in Keiran's eyes. For me a booking in that away game would see him missing the Everton home game and for me that would be my personal choice.
I think I'd be more confident with having Kalvin Phillips as up to speed as possible. He is improving all the time and was certainly pulling strings in the Villa game. A midfield with him alongside a shared combination of Cajuste/Luongo would be ok in the Captain's absence. I didn't think Taylor looked too bad for the minutes he was on the pitch either and certainly feel he has perhaps more to offer in this division than he had in the lower leagues.
Morsy I hope will surprise us and stay booking free and I know we are talking ifs & buts and maybes here, but just thought it might generate some further discussion.

Re: Morsy
I think his booking is inevitable, personally I would rather he got booked Saturday and miss Brentford than I would see him miss Everton at home, we need Two wins from the next Four and for me home to Everton and Leicester offer up the best chance of achieving that so I'd rather be at full strength in those Two.
Whatever happens Cajuste, Luongo and Taylor will come in at some point and do a job, I'm not phased by that for the odd game but I'm also fully aware they are not Morsy and we do lose something without him.
I know people get frustrated with Sam and his disciplinary record and I get it, however you can't take that out of his game, the team would suffer more than him getting the odd suspension, yes he was lucky Saturday but loads of his yellows have been soft and at times ridiculous, you shouldn't be booked on reputation which I think he sometimes is.

Absolutely. I guess refs prepare by looking at squads in the same way that a team looks at the opposition squad, but it shouldn’t mean you get booked on reputation. But as you say, I’m sure it happens.
He was lucky on Sunday, but as I said at the time, I felt the Villa players were targeting him, going down every time he tackled after the booking, and I think the ref realised and it probably saved him getting a second yellow.
I do feel very frustrated about Sunday’s match as I did the Liverpool match how the opposition just didn’t get booked when they should have been. Villa were frequently stopping play with niggly fouls, and should have been booked sooner for it in my opinion. But it seems in the prem that the “bigger” teams get away with it much more than the rest.

If/when Morsy is suspended it may be a blessing in disguise. He can probably use a rest. My question, who gets the Capt’s armband in his absence?
Hopefully Ricco will read this, I’m curious to know who the top five players are in the Prem with the most yellow cards, including red?

Re: Morsy
I'm assuming you mean this season?! There have been 6 red cards, though two have been for kicking a ball away, so it's all a bit weird
Five players have 4 yellows... Joelinton, Cucurella, Fofana, Lukic and of course Morsy. There are a further 13 players on 3 yellows, so it would stand to reason that essentially every Prem team has a player on 3 or 4 yellows. Would be great if Morsy didn't get any, but it will never be the case, and if you changed him so he got 50% fewer, you'd surely see a drop off in performance to go with it.
Captain in his absence, I'd like to see Greaves I think, but it may be a bit soon for him to be given that title, Phillips possibly, but he's only a loanee. Of the old guard, Burns? Tuanzebe?

Greaves must be high up the list of possible next captain choices, Masimo if he got a start, or maybe Axel - that would be my top 3 in order behind Morsy.ITFC2024 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2024 7:49 pmIf/when Morsy is suspended it may be a blessing in disguise.
