Re: Next Manager Rumour Thread (Poll Added 2/4/2018)
Was just listening to Melbourne radio station 3AW on the AFL App for the St Kilda Saints v Collingwood Magpies game...... commentator screams in proper animated Oz accent ....
“AND that’s another goal for the Magpies, this is ripping stuff, has Charlie met Meghan on the aisle yet, does anybody care, Magpies lead 30 to 27!”
I love this radio station!

I guess it’s a bit like us.... we’re looking to the future and willing to let an ambitious, lower league person into our midst.

I said on this board 3 weeks ago, that I thought Lampard would be the new manager, with 'Arry as director of football. I'm with Mike on this one.
Apart from being untried, Lampard would be a very high profile appointment with all that entails and I'm not sure that would be in the best interests of the Club. And as for Arry, I think he has had his day.

Well we are not the only ones getting frustrated over all this delay.
On the St Mirren forum they are asking for answers concerning Ross,if he wasnt still in the running surely he would have said thanks but no thanks after his interview's'.
if we are indeed wanting to speak with Hurst then he is going to be so far behind the curve that he would have to say yes in the first minute of any meeting, which makes me think that some contact must have been made! he is aware of our interest so if he is interested it must be in the back of his mind if he wants the job.
Lampard !! no thanks do we really need another trophy name here?

Re: Next Manager Rumour Thread (Poll Added 2/4/2018)
Just browsed TWTD and there seems quite a number who would like Lampard.
I’m a little surprised with that, considering the experience we had with Keane.
Lampards obviously not an arsehole like Keane, but Keanes experience at playing at the highest level didn’t rub off on the players.
Some seem to think the moment someone like Lampard walks through the door at Portman Road, he will sprinkle some magic dust on the players and transform them. That way of thinking is more Harry Potter than Graham Potter. Similarly, some think George Burleys history with the club will automatically recreate what he achieved in the late 90’s/ early 2000’s.
Everyone has their likes and dislikes, but I can’t help think some folk expect the manager to be some kind of magician. It’s going to be a tough job whoever gets it.
I’m going for Hurst or Ross, but if they get the job it will a lot of hard work to improve things.

Spot on, and thats exactly what I was meaning in an earlier post.bluejacko wrote:Well we are not the only ones getting frustrated over all this delay.

For Mevans and Co, its business and things will happen when the time is right........ but for the fans, (ITFC, Buddies etc) it’s dragging on a bit since Mick left. The St Mirren board must be slightly frustrated with things, especially if Mevans is waiting until full time on May 27th.
But it certainly ties in with Mevans saying late May, early June for a decision. To be honest, to me, (opinion) Ipswich want Hurst. Otherwise, why wait?

Yes, I don’t think it’s good to wait on Hurst, unless there has been already been discreet communication or even an interview and Hurst has shown a lot of interest in the job.
We’re looking at next Sunday’s play off final. Do we expect to get an answer the day after if we have had no contact and there could be 2 interviews to organise?
I think there must have been contact between Town and Hurst... if only if it’s a “are we wasting our time?”

Jack Ross now 1/3 odds on favourite suggests it’s a done deal unless he gets cold feet and pulls out. Frank Lampard 12/1 suggests the bookies think it’s 36 times more likely that Ross will be the new boss.

That’s a strange one as Lampard on Friday night went straight in at 3-1 and pushed back Hurst to 6-1. About 12 hours later he dropped to 12-1 without anything seemingly changing.Charnwood wrote:Jack Ross now 1/3 odds on favourite suggests it’s a done deal unless he gets cold feet and pulls out. Still believe PH is ME’s preferred option - Hurst is on record as saying that, as happens in football, he couldn’t guarantee that he’d remain with the Shrews. Diplomatically said no more. Would have thought that, having spoken with JR at least twice - and assuming he was prepared to accept the offer - ME would have signed him up if he was head and shoulders above Hurst. It might still happen; but if ME is going to put Ross in hold until after next weekend’s play off, then there’s clearly a message for both individuals. Worst case scenario is that, due to the stretched time envelope, we end up with neither.

Lampard would be a ridiculous appointment, and unnecessary risk. Surely, ME has better judgement now...especially after that c*ck Keane. I still think Jack Ross appears to be the best fit for Town. I have to admit, I'm getting a bit nervous with the roller coaster odds. ME, please don't f*ck this one up!

Pretty much encapsulates own thoughts on the issue. I got nothing against Lampard as a standalone individual but as a potential manager of this club is questionable at the very least.number 9 wrote:Lampard would be a ridiculous appointment, and unnecessary risk. Similar to the Keane scenario a few years back. Big name with plaudits and recognition, but possesses little to none in the way of managerial experience. Could be another example of taking a chance and taking the club nowhere. Would be disappointed if Lampard was appointed. Ross is by no means the best option or Hurst for that matter but would favor it over the aforementioned name/s put about.

The rollercoaster odds mean the bookies themselves don’t want to fk this up and lose potentially £M’s. They haven’t a fking clue either, and that’s superb work by Mevans and Co for keeping info tight. It’s all media wind & pish.

Re: Next Manager Rumour Thread (Poll Added 2/4/2018)
Following this discussion with great mirth! Not because the decision isn't important, but because of the faith that we put in bookies odds as an indicator of probability.
Surely we all know that bookies odds are simply a reflection of the bookies hedging against bets that have been placed by people who know exactly as much as we do about who will actually be appointed, i.e.: nothing.
Ok you can make a case for saying that bookies do have better meta data for judging what odds should be given to a new entrant into the list of possibilities. But even that data is only very general.
The only things that we can call 'facts' are things that have been reported or things that have been witnessed and then reported. For example, if Phil over at TWTD is reporting that Ross has been interviewed by ME then it is reasonably safe (although not watertight) to assume that Phil has this info from someone who actually knows this, i.e.: someone inside the club or someone who has seen Ross parking his tartan mini outside Portman Road.
Futhermore in relation to Hurst, we have no actual idea whether ME has any interest at all. We do know that he is open to a change as he has, fairly diplomatically, put that on record. But of course he could have had a quite different club in mind, or no particular club at all.
All the hype about Hurst is created by us and the press, and I don't think we are going to start claiming that the press are a reliable source are we?
It is highly unlikely that ME will publish a list of candidates that he is interested in and I'm sure ME has recruited many times before into senior positions in his organisation so whilst it's fun to speculate and imagine, everything should be taken right now with a very large fist full of salt. It is highly likely that there will have been interviews taking place that we are totally unaware of and who knows who will impress ME. We might yet be in for a surprise.

I still think Evans wants Hurst which is good as I believe him to be, all things considered, the best fit for us, Ross it would appear would be a great plan B

Of course we’re talking bollocks. The alternative is not to say anything.
It’s not as if what we write has any direct effect on the club. It’s all bollocks and hot air .... but keeps us occupied nonetheless. Bloody DB has to throw the common sense spanner into the works.

Great post by DB. Out of interest I checked the Betfair exchange odds which I usually find are the most realistic. Ross is the strong favourite at 1.4 (2/5), followed by Hurst @ 2.38 (11/8).
Then we have Simon Granston 8,Chris Coleman 8.4,Danny Cowley,Scott Parker, Tim Sherwood and Frank Lampard all at 9 (8/1) and Tony Mowbray at 10.
