Well yes, although it's not exactly something to celebrate, losing your league status would have been tragic and catastrophic.

Sheffield UTD have 1 foot in the play-off final, I guess we all would want to see them go up and not be in the league next year? i.e they are a stronger side than the others in the play offs.

Re: Other matches.
That definitely is an understatement. The most important 0-0 draw in recent times for the Loons.
Rude awakening for the Rose v East Kilbride over the two legs. I actually thought this was going to be Brechins year. To lose the title on GD to Brora, then see them fail against EK must've been sickening. Two years in a row Brechin City have lost the title on GD. Will predict right now that it'll be 3rd time lucky for the Hedgemen.

Re: Other matches.
I follow this for obvious reasons and all the talk on forums etc is that Brora have no intention of getting promoted to the Scottish League, they would throw it if need be.

Re: Other matches.
There'd certainly be a major financial issue for the fans. Going from local games within the Highland / Grampian area to trips to QOS or Stranraer....., crazy. The town is already a trek north of Inverness. Remember going there years ago to a wedding. Got to Inverness. Was like, "Can't be much further"....., was still MILES on the crap roads.

Re: Other matches.
How on earth has Cam Humphries got anything out of his time at Wycombe? The ball spends most of its time flying over his head by passing midfield as its hoofed time and time again to s lobe striker up front, ( where they promptly lose posession for it to come straight bavk into their defending box)?

Re: Other matches.
I watched it up until extra time....Coventry the better footballing / passing team i thought but couldn't make it count in.the Sundetland box. Cue the sucker punch. Sheffield Utd will be too string fir Sunderland i think. But at keadt it'll get the stringestv3 teams out of the division for next season....

Re: Other matches.
Typical second league play-off event they got right there. Bristol City would have been great for neutrals if they had made it but when you lose by six goals on an aggregate score to your opponents, you have to realize you're just not ready or good enough to feature at top level.
Oldham Athletic has to be worth a mention as they're involved in these fixtures right down in National League and looking to make it back to professional level. They have one or two of our ex-players on their roster and wasn't so far back put together an actual very effective team with Joe Royle that was able to challenge at the highest level. The fans deserve better than being in League Five or outside the professional divisions although got to be mentioned some just wouldn't be able to recall playing at the very top and featuring in Cup Finals. Would be good to see the team making it's way back but there's a long epic way to go before they can hope to play Premier League once again.

Re: Other matches.
Won't get this time back but they did a similar thing in 1991. Beat then a very good Everton team by 4 - 1 to win a domestic trophy. Can remember it were a surprise, maybe on a level with today. OK it were the ZDS trophy not the F.A. Cup but it were a victory at the national stadium where they caught many out and were not expected to succeed, at least not by such a scoreline.
Would be real good if this defeat saw the actual decline of Manchester City as a leading force in the game but somehow think they'll regroup, learn from the occasion and come back stronger next season. They have to fall away again at some stage in time or another, the funds and financing will dry up etc but unfortunately can't see it happening any time soon. They just remain too competitive but that CPFC win, it were great for neutrals. More power to them.

So pleased for a friend of ours who has supported Palace for 66 years. He text me last night and said he was finally on the way home and was absolutely knackered but would never forget the day.
Imo Palace deserved their victory.

Europa Cup Final ( whatever that is), between Spurs & Man Utd. Says it all really doesn't it about these oversees competitions, with both clubs finishing just above us in the PL.

Re: Other matches.
Just seen the oddest no-goal decision ever in the AKL-MVC A-League semi
(still live as of now https://streamlivetv.site/event/12181/A ... ne+Victory )
Player crosses from the goal line but it's checked and ball is in play, second player is onfield & onside and heads it in to score but the ball is adjudged to have 'blaooned' out of play on the way between the two of them. Like, what?
Pretty agricultural but fun though.

Sunderland look shot away by the occasion to me. No surprise Sheffield are winning thus. Kieffer Moore is impressing me.

Re: Other matches.
In many ways, watching Sunderland today, is like watching us. Very weak in the challenge. Can't take / ride a challenge from the opposition and p*ss poor tackling. Utd are so much stronger right through their team unless a miracle happens I can only see one winner here.. .. thankfully for us next season tbh .

Re: Other matches.
OMG what a finish . They deserve it for staying in the game and coming back so strong in 2nf half for such a young side.
Problem is thst means utd will be a big threat to us next season now.

Sheffield United are the real winners, not heading into that sh*te league!
TBH Hallam, I think Sheffield United will struggle to deal with that a the start of next season, could really affect them.

Just shows how cruel football can be sometimes. End the season on 90 points, 14 points more than their opponents Sunderland and not get promoted, I hate the play offs but I guess not as much as Sheffield United who’s play off record is shocking.
I wonder, has any club ever scored 90 points or more and not been promoted ?

Sunderland did just that back in 1998. What followed was the famous final event with Charlton Athletic, the former got beaten.Charnwood wrote: ↑Sat May 24, 2025 5:32 pmJust shows how cruel football can be sometimes. Don't care much either who won today in all truth, really got no preference for either. SUFC beat us back in '97 you can recall but it's too long a time to hold a grudge. Bottom line here you had two club names today fighting it out destined to bounce between the top level and second league and not much else with it.
You're right about these things being unfair i.e. one team finishes with great points total over another but they still go on to lose. Us and tomorrows opponents in 2005 being such an example. We could have one of the most unwanted records of any team in these things having lost what 7 or 8 separate occasions since they came into effect around 1987. Out of all those, Only made the Final game once with it.

Day of the under dog again!
Sunderland
Aberdeen do Celtic
Arsenal Women beat Barcelona
A lot of coupon busting results over the last few weeks.

so for the 3 clubs relegated from the PL - one got promoted, one lost in the play-offs, one got relegated. Will be interesting to see what happens next season.

I hope you're right Mike, as they're a pretty strong ( typical physical CC) squad....we never do well against physical teams do we.
