Re: JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW
Yes agreed… we lack physical presence up front and a striker who can “ occupy” the CB’s … thus us why the other forwards are currently Jess effective I feel.

Re: JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW
My issue is if we buy a Hirst type, expecting goals from elsewhere, then our other 3 front men Chaplin, Broadhead, Burns, the former two seem to be off the boil at the moment to me, whereas Burns seems to be in great form, but he's never really a huge goal threat even when in form like the other two can be??
Also the addition of Sarmiento and others (even if they are very good players) threatens to complicate and unsettle things, rather than improve. We have too many of that type now and it affects chemistry.

I'm a great believer in playing players in form, Burns, Sarmiento, Hutchinson, even Harness

Re: JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW
EXACTLY MIKE: Sarmiento and Hutchinson do make good pairings, Burns flies now he's got rid of that back hair knob, and Harness should have played instead of Taylor yesterday.
And I can't wait for Burgess to come back we have missed him, and I hope he doesn't think he's having a couple of games rest when he comes back

Let's wait and see.

Re: JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW
Can we spend that type of money on the aforementioned players without upsetting the fair play apple cart ..unless we give so much now and sweeten the pot by a sizeable chunk if we get promoted..maybe those clubs can afford to hold out now and take the chance to strengthen for nxt season from that sizeable add on we will give them

Re: JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW
Yip…. He’ll be ours soon
Ipswich Town are closing in on the signing of AFC Wimbledon striker Ali Al-Hamadi.
The EADT and Ipswich Star first broke the news of the Blues' interest in the League Two hotshot last week.
We understand that a fee of just over £1m with various add-ons has now been reached and that the Iraqi international, who is currently away at the Asian Cup, passed a medical in Qatar over the weekend.
It's understood that other clubs tried to hijack the deal late in the day, but that the player had his heart set on joining Kieran McKenna's Championship high-fliers after being pitched the project.
Dons boss Johnnie Jackson admitted over the weekend that Ipswich's interest had been 'head-turning' for the 21-year-old.
Iraq have topped their group at the Asian Cup, finishing above pre-tournament favourites Japan, and face Jordan in a last 16 match later this morning. Win that and they would go on to play Tajikistan in the quarter-finals (Friday), with the potential to take on Australia - who Town defender Cameron Burgess plays for - in the semis (next Tuesday). The tournament finishes on February 10.
McKenna explained last week that Financial Fair Play rules were making it difficult for him to bolster his depleted front line, but the Blues boss confirmed after Saturday's shock 2-1 FA Cup home defeat to Maidstone United that he was still hopeful of adding two new strikers to the squad before this Thursday's 11pm deadline.

The EADT and Ipswich Star understands that Blackburn Rovers' Sam Gallagher could be that second striker, but that a deal for him hangs on whether the Lancashire club can bring in a replacement first. The Ewood Park outfit, currently 18th in the Championship table, have been linked with a move for Swansea's Jerry Yates.
Bournemouth's Kieffer Moore also remains a target, though there's a growing sense that a loan package for him will prove too costly.
While less of a priority, the Blues are also looking to add some strength in depth at left-back before the window closes.
It remains to be seen whether a deal can be thrashed out for Sheffield Wednesday's experienced left-sider Marvin Johnson, with Owls boss Danny Röhl having insisted that Ipswich will 'have to invest' if they want the in-form 33-year-old.
Former Middlesbrough left-back Marc Bola, currently at Turkish club Samsunspor, is understood to be another player on the radar.
Problem is he’s away with Iraq atm isn’t he !

Re: JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW
What does that mean though?
- not picked
- injured
- somehow signing for us is getting in the way of the game
- he's seen some stats and decided not to be a footballer anymore

Maidstone have decided to use the money from their cup run on a new striker and have come in with a late bid?

Re: JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW
I can’t say I’m too bothered about signing him anyway as the gulf between League 2 and Championship football is huge. Paul Hirst found this out to his personal cost in 2018 when he recruited from the same league and we all know what happened next. If we’re serious about promotion to the Premier League I think we should only be focussing on recruiting players who we think can help us achieve that one primary objective, and I don’t think that includes Al-Hamadi.

Just seen Iraq out of their cup, guess nothing stopping Ali from coming back home now, and albeit a possibility for the weekend (providing we do sign him).

Re: JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW
Normally I tend to agree Andy but something about this guy has me a little bit excited, he certainly has all the attributes we are looking for, albeit at a lower level, he's an excellent age too, there are on the odd occasion gems to be found lurking lower down the pyramid, Jamie Vardy & Kevin Phillips spring to mind, hopefully we can unearth another, I am of the opinion we need an experienced striker to take most of the burden though and that looks like being Sam Gallagher.Charnwood wrote: ↑Mon Jan 29, 2024 2:47 pmI can’t say I’m too bothered about signing him anyway as the gulf between League 2 and Championship football is huge. You know what I don't like about that? It seems like the club have made him come back to the UK to sign and pose, while his country gets knocked out the Asia cup, that doesn't feel right to me
