Re: Transfer Rumours
I imagine promotion might have made recruitment trickier. Last season - particularly in January - we were probably offering championship wages in league 1, with Ash excellent chance of promotion. I’m not sure how we are fixed for posting even higher wages, but I suspect we are competing with championship teams on a more even footing. And although there is optimism, realistically the chances of promotion - however good - are less than last season. So we are probably not quite as an attractive proposition. I’m not saying players won’t want to come here, just that there might be more competition.

You not think that, in todays world, something may have been leaked by now? With Leigh and Edwards gone, I’m tending to think that our squad is actually weaker than it was last season. I appreciate that they didn’t play regularly, and understand why they wanted to leave.

In seriousness, ITFC have been pretty good at keeping things under wraps. Yes, I get your point - "Hirst seen at Ipswich hotel' and Dane Scarlett have certainly added strength to your argument. I have noticed that ITFC seem to have the local media very much in their back pocket, with the media only publishing 'rumours' when the deals are way down the line (in Scarlett's case).marko69 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 6:36 pmYou not think that, in todays world, something may have been leaked by now? National & social media, are not so easy to keep in check, but I reckon Mark Ashton is bargaining hard, preparing to pull deals if agents/clubs are too loose with their lips!
I am still confident we will get that CB in.

"IPSWICH TOWN LATEST WITH FOUR HOURS TO GO
Okay, this is the current situation as I understand it. Appreciate it's not much, but it's something...
- Ipswich have made progress in their attempts to sign a centre-back. Should happen before the deadline.
- Continued reports of Town signing Joe Geldhart (Leeds) and selling Freddie Ladapo are wide of the mark.
- As things stand, it's unlikely that there will be any more departures"

EADT update:
AXEL TUANZEBE
The centre-back Ipswich have been in talks with today is... Axel Tuanzebe.
A player that Kieran McKenna worked with at Manchester United. He's a free agent having been released this summer. Has recently been on trial at Luton.
Deal doesn't have to be done before 11pm because he's unattached.
Would imagine discussions will continue over the international break once tomorrow's game with Cardiff is out the way
Don't know anything about him, but found this.

Re: Transfer Rumours
Tbh this all smacks of a bit of desperation to me.
I think Ashton and his team have found it very hard to sign the experienced, quality targets, McKenna has requested. All we have actually signed is Hutchinson, Williams, and Scarlett. All are young and largely inexperienced players, bar Williams. I’m not entirely sure I’d see them as necessarily stronger or better than what we currently have in the senior squad.
We have got rid of, Edwards, and Leigh, who both experienced.
We also appear to have failed ( as at 9pm) to sign a much needed quality, experienced and fit, CB and striker.
From where I’m sat right now looking at the situation, I feel we now have to hope we have enough in the locker to get us to the Jan window. Have we even tried abroad?
…… very underwhelmed with our trading atm unless of course it proves to be a blinding hit. I live in hope.

Re: Transfer Rumours
I think once the transfer window has closed, clubs are only able to register an 'Out of Registration' player or an Emergency Loan Goalkeeper. This would of course include Axel Tuanzebe who is out of contract at Man Utd and had Championship experience with Aston Villa and Stoke City and is currently valued at circa £4m.hallamblue wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 5:43 pmMaybe defender coming in on loan. Aren’t these done after window closes?

Re: Transfer Rumours
I’d say this smacks of desperation to get a CB through the door. Bloody ridiculous given the length of time we’ve had to get one in through the door. Our CB’s are weak at this level in my humble opinion.

Re: Transfer Rumours
Is this Axel Tuanzebe story a smokescreen though?
Look I get the negativity at, what may appear on the face of it, an underwhelming transfer window so far. I guess it's disappointment! However, let's see where we are come the close of the window, then we can all moan like f***
Let's also give these new signings a chance. Leif Davis didn't exactly inspire much confidence after his first couple of games, now look at him! He's one of the first names on the team sheet! On the other hand there was (I believe) quite a bit of excitement when Piggott came in ! Look how that turned out! What I'm saying is we shouldn't judge people on their reputations or their first few appearances.
Keep the faith people, KM knows what he's doing and yes, if the pool of suitable players at the right price isn't yielding that big name CB, why panic and sign a relative big name who doesn't fit the bill and upsets the whole togetherness ethos ingrained within the club.

Re: Transfer Rumours
‘What’s got us here won’t take us there’.
Unfortunately we haven’t signed enough for this Ashton quote to be usable at present, as Hallum says I suspect they have found it a very difficult market.
What I would say is we have replaced some OK middle aged players with higher potential youngsters and we have a manager who can clearly develop players - so there is hope. Give it some months and these youngsters could really improve and kick us on.
The defence is of course a worry - but we could try again in Jan and hope for the best injury wise until then.
I also suspect we need to be patient with the building of the the recruitment side of things. I feel so far they have set up something where there was nothing but it needs to start developing and expanding to cover Europe and beyond.
We must be patient - things will take time but the club WILL be driven forward over time.
I have total faith in KM, if anyone can turn these loan youngsters into world beaters it’s him.

Re: Transfer Rumours
He’s seems to be a bit if journeyman though Mike doesn’t he. I think it’s a case of can’t get the defenders we really want so he’ll have to do.
I agree re thf recruitnent if thf ykjngsters that HH en Cuz hung they could develop as the season goes on but we need a big more than “ hope” in the squad I feel. We need quality championship players / but it seems it comes at a very big price tag which we can’t compete with the PL failure parachute money given to clubs relegated. The parachute money they have had inflated the market and makes it an uneven playing field .
I bloody hate the so called “ Premier” League snd it’s distortion of the EFL. It’s ruined the game in my view. When a Club is willing to pay £40 MILLION for essentially a reserve player then the game is dead isn’t it. Ashton for all his charm and smooth talk can’t charm these players to come here when the asking price before wages is so far above our FFP ceiling. It’s bloody ludicrous and we need to start looking abroad for Jan window, now!

Just maybe this could be the making of young Baggott, I'm not adverse to that possibility as opposed to some ageing CB looking for a final pay day. In McKenna I trust.

No Bristol Rovers shyte from sections of the fanbase and the club can continue to improve.
From my own personal opinion, the ‘What’s got us here won’t take us there’. quote is no doubt accurate......, but really can't see getting "there" (meaning EPL I assume) was (or is) the objective anyway. May be wrong with that, but got to believe that the powers would like a consolidated season in the Championship.

Sorry just got off work, so Baggott is staying? All negativity aside, Williams & Scarlett are excellent additions. Yes, it may take some time for them to settle, but you can’t ignore their pedigree especially with KM tutoring. Re: Transfer Rumours
I’m not too bothered about missing out on another striker. Whilst I’m sure we could have done with another CB I think we can make do with the squad as it is and reassess in January. If we’re struggling to keep the goals against to a manageable number and dropping unnecessary points we’ll just have to pay thd going price to strengthen. If I’m honest I think we have a good enough squad to compete in this league albeit probably not quite good enough for a top six finish as it stands.Bluemike wrote: ↑Sat Sep 02, 2023 9:50 amSomething must have fallen through at the last minute looking at this......

Of course we mustn’t forget we still have an outside chance of signing the Man Utd lad Axel Tuanzebe on loan. He has Championship experience and could become a permanent signing at the end of the season if the loan goes well. These try before you buy loan deals could work well for us especially if the player enjoys working with the manager and settles in the area. I’d much prefer to see us operate this way rather than sign a 30+ journeyman just looking for a few more pay days.
