Unsworth

David Unsworth is no nearer knowing where his future lies next year with his loan spell at Town due to completed at the end of the season.

The 30-year-old defender joined Blues on a three month loan from Portsmouth in February after it appeared he was surplus to requirements at Fratton Park.

Velemir Zajec had taken over as manager at the time after Harry Redknapp had left the club but now Zajec has moved back to his general manager position with Frenchman Alain Perrin installed as boss.

The former Marseille manager saw Portsmouth beat Charlton 4-2 in his first game in charge last weekend.

David - another year on
Pompey contract

"Nothing has really changed in my situation," David told the Club website.

"It won't either until the end of the season. I still have a year left on my contract at Portsmouth and I don't know what my future is there.

"The situation with me at Ipswich might develop further if we win promotion to the Premiership but whatever happens, I can't see anything moving on in a definite manner until the summer.

"All I am concentrating on is trying to help Ipswich get into the Premiership. That's my only concern for now."
So do we still want to sign him??

Hmmm not sure, his arrival hasn't really had the effect on our defence that I hoped it would (not as much of an impact as Matt Elliot last season).

Strange as it may seem but defensively I think we had a better record earlier in the season before Diallo got injured!

Yes, he is a top class player and i'm suprised Portsmouth let him come to us, although he was utter sh*te last night.

i am under the impression that if we go up we will sign him, pompey are not considering him in their plans. Sheepy kind of put forwad the impression that the loan money we are paying pompey is going towards a final fee if ipswich are promoted.

I think his experience will be invaluable although he is not as consistent as he might be he is still generally a solid player who keeps his shape well. Its odd for me, we have 4 good defenders (FW JdV RN DU) and yet such a poor record. Can anyone explain it ? Maybe the problem is really in the midfield ?

I've been saying this for a while now, we need a defensive/anchorman midfielder, a Makelele-esque type player. Magilton is an attacking midfielder as is Miller, Currie and Westy.

Yes, we've been discussing the 'defensive midfielder' option for sometime now. I'm not sure where the problem is. I haven't seen enough games this season to offer a valid opinion. What about our youth squad? Do we have any burgeoning defenders or midfielders coming through? I wish some one had the answers because our inconsistency is trying at best. Even Norwich boasted a relativley solid defensive record before they were promoted and look at them now. Haven't they got the worst defensive record in the Prem? I suppose that's the best part about being a Town fan though, not knowing what's around the corner. Hopefully, there are better things to come for the greatest football fans in the world!

Wasn't this why we got Horlock?

Trouble is though that recently Horlock has looked unfit and uninterested (not to mention untalented and useless!).

Liam Trotter is the only dfensive midfielder that hasn't been released

Aidan Collins, Gerard Nash and Scott Mitchell are the only defensive players that are likely to break through anytime soon.

Yes Toby, Horlock was supposed to fill this role and i think he can. Trouble is I don't think he's versatile enough to move up when the game changes into an attacking midfield. Also he does seem to have lost a little of his grittiness on the occasions he has played from the start.

I do believe your right - if the midfield is not performing then it seems to leave the defence terribly exposed.

Wolves were running from deep in the 1st half with no-one in midfield following them - hardly surprising the defence were overrun and had no clue where to turn next!!

Oh well, lets hope for better things on Sunday!!

He is the most experienced Premiership player in our squad. There is no doubt he is up to the standard.

I don't see us being able to bring in any other better replacements.
