Sammy Youssouf has left Portman Road after spending three days on trial at Championship outfit Ipswich.

The Maritimo striker is returning to his Portuguese paymasters, with Ipswich boss Joe Royle yet to decide whether to sign the 29-year-old on a permanent basis.

Ipswich's coaching staff were left impressed by the player in training but, being unable to field Youssouf in a reserve game, Royle is reticent to recruit before he has exhausted his other options first.

''It would have been good to have been able to take a look at Sammy in a game but that isn't possible,'' said Royle.

''He is going back but I have told him and his agent that at this stage we are saying no.

''We could have him back for a further look but we also have other trialists to look at in the weeks ahead, so the situation is on hold for now.

No great surprise going by our recent track record on trialists

- would you have liked to have seen him at PR?

this and the other pointless trialists doesnt say much for our scouting staff does it

For every 4 crap trialist you get there will be at least one gem on average.
