Just wanted to ask if anyone else is concerned about Jan 1st when the transfer window opens? With several prem league outfits sniffing round Mings, McGoldrick and Bishop it has me slightly concerned that 'IF' these 3 did move on would we me able to still mount a serious effort to stay in top 6?

would accept anything in excess of 8 million for Mcgoldrick, tbh he isnt quick enough or prolific enough, and would like us to re in vest the money in to a proven goalscorer

Eight million seems a little on the cheap in todays inflated market, you got players of similar attributes going for more expensive deals in the last year so would ideally hold out for at least an eight figure sum if possible. And if that's the price suggested for McGoldrick then we wouldn't allow Murphy to depart for anything less than 15 - 20 million. That's not stupid money, it's merely in keeping with what other club sides are prepared to pay. Know damn well buying and selling in todays game has become an exaggerated state of affairs.

Even then I don't believe McCarthy would allow any player to leave in the January window. Look at the situation : one or two points off the league summit, all to play for and the best damn opportunity this club has to achieve something once again not seen in ten overdue years.

If we do fail a promotion by end of season then unfortunately I'd believe McCarthy will then revise the situation and I do expect one or two high profile names to depart for elsewhere. We've seen this before i.e. Kieron Dyer, when we failed a promotion attempt and lost some of our key players. This at least provides even more emphasis on the need to get it right this time and finally leave the championship league behind.

my issue is that I doubt we would invest any let alone all the money - all we hear is that the funds will be used to secure loan signings or fund wages

 Well I cant see Mick letting anyone go, only possibly bring in someone like Glen Murray a proven goal scorer who would be a great back up for the front guy's in case of injuries, we are quite safe with Keepers, back line and midfield, :D so if anything another striker like Murray from Palace on loan.

I still tend to lean towards a creative MF player if we get anybody in , as our CMF is still a bit midfield static (NOT QUITE THE RIGHT WORD..!!) imo , just not quite enough drive forward , not sure what is happening with Stewart as from the wings he looked good when i have seen him but just not played for us. Sammon does not look like the answer (goals wise) if we go short as he works hard but when he has had decent chances he has fluffed them so far , but saying that he does a job when he is brought on so not slating the guy by any means...Murray in not a bad shout to be honest

Parr seems decent enough to me , so not sure we need to be looking for a first choice LB to be honest , if indeed we are..but like a few others i really can not see MM or ME letting players go if we are in with a real shot post xmas games , it would make no sense as the returns for going up or even just making the play-offs (worth a couple of million 2?? ) outweigh the short term gain of 8 million (around that) for Mings to go.

That sort of money will not make a dent in monies owed to ME going up could feasibly halve the debt long term.

All i would say is, if any Town player does leave in Jan it will be on OUR terms and because MM will have already identified a replacement.im hearing we are linning up a bid fir the Charlton LB, presumably as Mings replacement. I agree that McG is not quick enough. And he s not yet re captured his scoring boots. Personanally id have taken that 8m offer. We may have missed the boat on that one now.

Going forward. Im am convinced we need another striker. If Murphys purple season ends gong into the second half of the season, we are essentially stuffed for goals. Bolton being a good example.

Personally I think this Fox link is a load of old pish. Mings wont be going anywhere this season. :)

Would hope that ME/MM resist any bids, rather than risk jeopardising our promotion chances. However, the club is a business and, in the wider scale of things, every player has his price. A fact of football life. But as HB wisely points out, any deals should be on our terms.

Where we sit on completion of the Xmas/Early New Year programme, might have a significant bearing on any decisions made in Jan's transfer window.
