Where will town finish..??
Well town require a average of 75 points to make a play of spot ..so we need 31 points (given the last ten year points average) from a possible 69 points..!. Looking at the table all the teams in the current top ten places would say they are in with a genuine shout at making the play off,s.
Many betting sites have us down a fourth favorite to both win and / or be promoted with Derby , Borough , and Bournemouth above us. So given our results it seems the bookies (who are seldom that far off the mark) expect us not to sustain our current form across the season.
Given our squad size they may be right , but MM may get a player in Jan ?? if he does and it,s a good quality player (striker or AMF )i am leaning towards 2nd and automatic promotion or 3rd , but to be honest and to give a one position answer ??
3rd for me (in the play off,s so still a great season and no need to worry about any team we may have to meet - form at the time will count)

Bookies seldom far off the mark ??? Yeah right, look at the three they had down as favourites at the start of the season, we can all change our opinions every week like bookies do.
As for the question, if we carry on playing as we have been we will be top two.

Re: Where will town finish..??
Now that we have reached the half way point in the season things start to get serious and it is worth taking a look at our chances of keeping it going through the second half of the campaign, obviously the dreaded "P" word is bound to be mentioned amongst the fans even if the manager and players are trying to keep a lid on things, but given just how good we have performed it is worth looking at just how good our chances are.
Over the last few seasons the figure required for automatic promotion averages out at 85 points meaning we require another 41 points from 23 games to give ourselves a real shout of Premier league football, that works out at 1.78 points per match. We are going to lose gmaes that much is obvious but it is our ability to win the games we should win that will determine our fate. Looking at the remaining fixtures tells me we do have a chance, I have given my predictions as fairly and honestly as i can based on what has already gone before.
Remaining Home Fixtures
Wins............ Charlton, Wigan, Sheff Wed, Reading, Birmingham, Bolton, Blackpool, Cardiff = 24 points
Draws............Brentford, Nottingham Forest = 2 points
Defeats..........Derby, Bournemouth = 0 points
Remaining Away Fixtures
Wins.............Millwall, Rotherham, Huddersfield, Leeds = 12 points
Draws...........Brighton, Wolves, Blackburn = 3 points
Defeats.........Fulham, Norwich, Middlesbrough, Watford = 0 points
That equates to Twelve more wins, Five Draws and allows for Six more defeats, it wont be easy but it isnt impossible by any means, clealry there will games we win that we dont expect and probably some we lose that should be won but the fixtures at Portman Road are very appealing indeed and give us a great chance to rack up the required points. So that is what is required to get to the magical 85 points, the big question is, will we do it ????? It's gonna be one hell of an exciting Four months or so but whatever the outcome it is turning into a season to savour.

Hardly a jinx you superstitious old git, merely showing what is required to get anywhere near top two and if we are capable of it.

Fine, I'll even it out for you.marko69 wrote:Nope, jinx thread. I'll be bringing this thread back up if it goes mams up.
In the last thirteen or so years we have been given false hope more often than not. Anyone else remember that 3-1 battering of Boro at the start of the season when Keane was in charge? It's only just turned christmas and we are all getting excited. Potentially legitimate, but I'm cautious.
We'll fall by the wayside I just know it. Either dropping out the play-offs on the last day or getting done in the semis or the final.
Better?

Re: Where will town finish..??
I expect a play-off berth will be the most likely end. Fourth or fifth maybe - can't even entertain the thought of Town being outside the top six and missing out altogether (by end of season), not after we've being doing so well. Wish I could be more hopeful, but as before, it's too early to be making judgments. I would imagine Bournemouth supporters are thinking the very same thing.
The play-off prediction is a cause for concern however, given our lousy record. Maybe this time the manager will prove the difference and succeed, where Royle (and others) failed. Is this squad we have now really any better than the one from ten years back ? I don't believe so, and while in the end, they couldn't manager a promotion, this time (should a play-off occur) it can hopefully be different and McCarthy can rise to even greater stature.

People i've been speaking to are hoping for a Ipswich/Norwich playoff final. I would hate that if they won because they would rub it so bad in our faces that they beat us to Promotion.

Most ridiculous and worst thing we could hope for.

Re: Where will town finish..??
My main concern is that despite this fantastic run we are still 4 points behind the leaders Bournemouth, (ok we have a game in hand but as we know it is always better to have the points in the bag) and still just 4 points ahead of Brentford in 6th place (with a game in hand on them).
Being realistic our run most probably will come to an end soon and the key will be how quickly we bounce back when it does. I still think the top 2 may be just beyond us but I would be disappointed now if we didn't make the top 6.
For me the nightmare scenario would be to finish 3rd and the Budgies to sneak into 6th place. You just know what would happen!

Haven't got over the Milk Cup semi-final yet when we should have buried them in the 1st leg at Portman Road instead of going up there with just a 1-0 lead.TODD66 wrote:We would give them a bloody good hiding, that's what would happen!
Don't think I could take losing to them barstewards again in a really big important tie.

The thing is Shed we have just had a torrid run of fixtures and come through them very well, those around us have some hard games coming up, it all evens itself out but lets see how the other top clubs do against the big boys.

I agree Mike anything can happen and we are certainly in with a shout of automatic promotion.bluemike wrote:The thing is Shed we have just had a torrid run of fixtures and come through them very well, those around us have some hard games coming up, it all evens itself out but lets see how the other top clubs do against the big boys.
As I say I still think we may just miss out but that's probably just me being a pessimistic barsteward due to following the Town for so long!

My daughter said to Mick at Brentford "you are taking us to the Premiership" and he laughed and said let's see where we are in May and enjoy now.
