One National suggesting Bent will shortly sign on loan for Derby, with view to permanent move.
If true, will certainly strengthen their squad and give SM options as they push on. No doubt in my mind that we also need similar cover/options, against possibility of injuries to DMcG or DM. History apart, Bent would certainly provide MM with additional quality, but both transfer fee and wages are probably too rich for our blood. Chris Woods from Leicester has also been mentioned in despatches as a possible loan target. Not a bad call, if true.

The one issue with even getting a player like Bent through the door is the would more than likely expect to play , and at present i would not drop either one of our forwards to be honest , Murphs on fire and Dids does so much work with the ball and has just be unlucky in the scoring of goals but still looks good for a dozen plus this season.!!..a good "back up' is what is needed ..Woods may be just the bill , might be worth looking at the Prem for younger fringe strikers as well.

Not a chance. We've got two bang in from strikers already and Bent is too good to join a Championship side as a backup, let alone for the amount of wages he'd be on.

One of the favourite sayings on this forum is "In Mick We Trust". The fans will need to continue trusting him, and with that, hope he's going to use January to have strength on the bench, even more strength than there already is. Mick, being a seasoned championship manager, will know this.

Wouldnt want him here to be honest, not a patch on the player he once was and costs a fortune.

Yea, no reason fixing which isnt not even close to being broke, but humming along nicely. No need for Bent sitting around expecting one to come off the pitch.

Would be worth another go if we could bring him back free of any cost, but it's not going to happen. Granted Bent was a class act a decade back and something of a fan favorite, but the truth of the matter being, we simply don't require his services right now. He'll always be welcome at portman road and scored some pivotal goals in his time here, but we'll be able to get by just fine without him for the remainder of the season.

Agree that Bent's return, potentially to sit on the bench at great cost, is something MM would not consider - something he alluded to in a local interview recently when talking about the balances to be struck when considering either loan or perm signings. Clearly Derby hold a different view!
However, whilst both DM and Didsy are on cracking form and dropping either would be unthinkable, the fact is that either or both are one bad tackle away from being sidelined. We do not have adequate, quality, cover; I therefore believe MM will look to identify a suitable loanee striker.

He may even find a hidden gem from the lower leagues like he did with Mings ?

Personally I feel DB has seen better days. He's on that downward slope now.

He's Definitely not what he used to be, such a shame really because he was a pretty good goalscorer back in the day.

Reading comments form Villa fans etc it sounds as if he has become something of a pain in the arse, not to mention a bit of a liability.

Good. That way he'll stay away from our strikers!

Of course he's had better days! He cost 17 million and competing for top 4. He's now looking to join a championship side...

Agreed! But funny how these situations seem to happen. 'Of all the clubs, in all the leagues, he might join our next league opponents and close rivals'. Couldn't make it up.

Confirmed Derby have signed him on loan until season end. See you on 10th then, Darren!

Hopefully Smith with nobble him in the first 10 minutes, he wont want to know after that. I cant imagine Chris Martin or Johnny Russell being too impressed if they are to make way for Bent at times.

I wonder if Bent might be a disruptive influence in the likely tight knit Derby squad? Which is why MM is so careful about who is bringing in.

As I said earlier the Villa fans are of that opinion.

Can only see him being a sub tbh. Who's he going to take the place of in their team?.

In November he made his debut on loan at Brighton and scored against former loan club Fulham. I'm more than happy to see him score Derby's only goal so long as we score two or more.
