Re: Gerrard leaves Liverpool!
So many words you could fit into this, and so little time..
In short, I can't abide Liverpool but recognize Gerrard has been (and still remains albeit to a lesser extent), a player of superlative talent and ability. One of the best english midfielders seen of the last 30 years without question. I saw his strike in the 2006 FA Cup Final on some sports program recently and no player other than Gerrard could have done it (and at the time it occured)
Liverpool are f*cked in so many words without him, he's the most pivotal player they have - and have had - for years, and with Suarez gone also, to replace two players of that caliber, you've got to go some.
Would be no surprise if he quit playing with this and took up a coaching capacity somewhere.

As many PL medals as I have!
Joking aside, one of Liverpool and England's all time best, certainly one of the best players to have never won a leauge title. Still, cracking goals his socred over the years. England 5-1 Germany is up there with one of my most memorable.
IMO though I think he's been a bit of a problem for Liverpool this season. They are accomadating other players around him in the foramtion. Good luck to him but at this stage of his career, on the pitch at least, Liverpool are better off without him.

No doubt this will be controversial amongst many, for me a great club player but like many others was never the same player when he pulled on a England shirt.
Think you could count on one hand the number of top notch performances that he put in for England.

Not one of my favourite players by a long way, but a great club stalwart. I am not surprised by the announcement as I feel Rodgers accepted some time ago that Gerrard was past his best and had to be replaced.

A great servant to the Club - whose performances, when at his peak, were outstanding. He was often responsible for single-handedly getting key results, or digging his team out of a hole. Not so effective, however, for England - which might in part be down to other factors in the National team's set up, and sub-standard managers/players over the years.
Expect, at some future stage, he will return to the club in some capacity.

Re: Gerrard leaves Liverpool!
I'm sure I read somewhere that he'd restricted his transfer to a non British club and would almost certainly finish his playing career abroad.
I'm guessing that he'll have been inspired by the likes of David Beckham and more recently by Frank Lampard who's found a new lease of life away from Chelsea, albeit he's not been unduly concerned about not competing against his former club.
I'm not sure how well Gerrard will settle in a new life away from his native Liverpool and guess he'll face many challenges.
I expect sometime in the future he'll return to Liverpool in some capacity or another just as Kenny Dalgish and other Liverpool stalwarts have.

Re: Gerrard leaves Liverpool!
Might sound a bit churlish , but really don't care...I dont much like Liverpool as club currently & I also feel he did a fairly limited amount for England , so already finding it all a bit OTT and boring...no disrespect to the guy as he he will rightly be rearguard as a "great" for Liverpool , but so what at the end of the day.!!

Gerrard's departure from Liverpool will certainly be an indication of the changing of the guards...if not already in progress. He's the epitome of a well-rounded midfielder, who has attacked and defended admirably for both club and country. I'll never forget that superb Champs Final when he inspired the amazing comeback against AC Milan. A fantastic English player! Thanks for the post.

Have to totally agree with this. Yes he has been very loyal to his home town club. His driving midfield influence has been long gone over recent years. Has he got any coaching badges?

Re: Gerrard leaves Liverpool!
Have to agree with Hallam blue and others, for me he was the best midfielder we have had in many a year. He could score with his head or left or right foot, free kicks open play, penalties the lot. A million times better than Lumpard and only a shame he never played in one of the better Liverpool sides throughout the years. Undoubtedly the best in at best average Liverpool teams were he dragged them to silverware almost singlehandedly. A massive lose to Liverpool but could be the catalyst to move them on again.
I have no love for Liverpool but i do have for Gerrard that followed his heart and not his wallet.

Re: Gerrard leaves Liverpool!
I,m a Lamp,s fan more as well the guy is now 36 and still a decent player 2 years older than Gerrard , i think he is ahead of Gerrard as they stand now even given the age difference , and Lamps has hardly jumped on to multiple ships of his career , served at WH for a while then Chelski for years and only left as they would not re-sign him (according to reporting) so sign for NY team , but loaned to thier sister team and playinf at a better level so wants to remain and city are no mugs and want to keep him.
