Town don't play for 10 days after Wednesdays game at Brighton, hopefully this will give the players with niggles time to recover.

10 day break a double edged sword in my view. Ive already said to Bluemike. Town are often very slow out of the blocks, even looking like they've never played as a team, following any International break.
I fear the same thong happening after this break, even though physically / mentally the break would be good for our small squad. .

Makes sense Hallam. But speaking as a physio (you are right?) does it help strengthen muscle endurance and protect against injury to have a break like this?

surely Liz this 10 day rest is the same for every team, I think Mick & Tell will have them fired up on our return, they will still be training every day so fitness shouldn't be a problem

This is break is badly needed and is coming at the best time for once,

Yes I am. I wouldnt say it makes the body stronger, but it will allow microscopic trauma to joints, cartilage, muscles a ligaments to "rest" and as the body is in a constant state of repair ( via the inflammatory cascade response), it allows this repair to occur unhindered.
The players most likely to benefit are the very young, ( Bishop, Mings) who are at a critical developmental period in their physiological growth - essentially the NEED rest periods to prevent overuse injuries on ligaments, and joints. The other group, is thenother end ofbthe spectrum, the early to mid 30's, whose bodies take longer to recover from the assault of high end exercise eg Tabb, Hunt, Murphy.
So whilst the break helps the players physiologically, and mentally, their match fitness and mental edge...ie feeling "in the groove, or on their game" always seems to be down when they take to the pitch again. Yes, you're right its the same for everyone. But Town seem particularly poor at returning post break to hit the ground running in that first competitive match, compared to our opponents. I don't know why. But ive yet to see us do well after a 2 wk break. I hope MM can break this.

I think Murphy particularly is looking jaded. I think he's still carrying an injury from the Saints first match.

When you look at it closely we only actually have 9 days without a game, which is only 2 more than a team which plays Saturday one weekend and Sunday the next.
During some International breaks, teams go almost two weeks without a game and this can sometimes break momentum, but with all our illnesses and nigly injuries this shorter break can do nothing but good and I'm sure McCarthy and the players will most welcome it.

Hope youre right. Our squad is small and we need to keep winning. Simple as that really.

Hey Liz, are you coming up to Rotherham with Bluemike, if so I'll come and find you and buy you a drink.

Thanks Hallam (Liz) that's great to have a detailed explanation. If we have a smaller squad than most and our big stars are the younger players then don't we actually get an advantage over most teams by having an extended break?
I would love to see statistics on your theory that we tend to start back slower than other teams - could it be that we are just not watching them so closely, after all on a regular Saturday there are 11 or 12 games in the Champ and for every winner there is also a loser.......
Just sayin' like

Would normally agree that keeping the momentum going is the preferred option - particularly when winning. But the coming break will probably be welcomed by MM and players alike. Time to recharge physical and mental batteries, get the virus out of the squad, clear up nigglng injuries and integrate new players into the squad. Review what's gone before, prepare for the battles to come.
No doubt MM will give them a few days R&R following Brighton (sorry WAGS!), then get back on the training ground on Monday heading towards the Wigan game. Or, the club could fly the boys out to Spain or Portugal for some winter sunshine!

Not sure he is looking jaded, he had a hand in all Three goals at millwall, i do however accept he looks like a rest will do him good.

Tell you what DB, im more than happy to have this trend reversed after this break!

if anyone has time to look back on previous games after breaks it would make interesting reading i think.

Hiya. Yes there should be four of us. Will be good to meet up and catch up. Think their new grojnd , like most of them is stuck in middle of nowhere though. So meet up somewhere away from ground pehaps?

I think the ground is pretty close to the exit from the M1. The Bridge PH is meant to be quite good, I'll check it out with a mate of mine who I'm playing golf with tomorrow, he spent four years playing in goal for Rotherham United and should still know the area quite well as he goes back there ocassionally to visit the club.

Piece of useless info....... We took our daughter to see The Spice Girls in Sheffield way back in 96 or 97...... But our hotel was in Rotherham. I could see Millmoor from my hotel room window. What a fkn shed it was. Actually , when I think back , Rotherham is a bit of a hole. Well , it was..... Might be different now.

Jive Bunny originated from there Mark, it's all you need to know.
I don't know what this 10 day rest entails, appears to be another pointless international exercise, but I'd much rather be keeping busy with domestic action and wanting Town to progress as they should.

I doubt it, when i was a Regional Manager based in a Leeds I had a branch office there and it was always looked upon as being a bit of a sh*t hole and probably always will be.
Unfortunately it's probably one of the most unattractive places in the country although to be fair the local people always seemed to be mostly very nice.

Lived in Sheffield for over 3 yrs. Worked in a lot of the hospitals in surrouding area and found it a very hard nosed, gritty but friendly area of the Country.
It is industrial, and therefore suffering from structural unemployment , associated poor health and areas like Rotherham are run down. People who think Ipswich is dump, need to see what other towns are like, and they would view Ipswich through different eyes.

You may well be correct Bluemike, but reserve judgement till you've been to Rotherham.

There weren't many Asian's of Pakistani origin in Rotherham in my day. The nice people I was referring to we're genuine South Yorkshire folk with a background of either working down pit or from the steel industry.
