Transfer Deadline Day Activity.
For me Derby's signing of Tom Ince from Hull City and Jesse Lingard on loan from Manchester United was the best bit of business done by any of the Championship Clubs currently involved in the race for promotion.
I think this is excellent business for Derby County on top of the signing of Darren Bent and feel they've made a real statement of intent.
I'd have been more than happy to have seen all three of these players arrive at Portman Road especially given how close we are to promotion with the second half of the season now well under way.
We've recently talked about how tired the squad looked before the recent break and the run in does get rather hectic, with plenty of weeks where there are three games in eight days, and it will probably be the clubs with decent players to rotate who will be best equipped to deal with this.
I'd still not be surprised to see MM active when the loan window reopens.

Re: Transfer Deadline Day Activity.
Looking further down the league table Cardiff City's signing of Chesterfield striker Eoin Doyle for an undisclosed fee said to be worth around £1m looks very interesting and could prove to be a bargain.
The 26-year-old who has scored 25 goals this season joins on a contract which runs until the summer of 2018.

Millwall & Blackpool have also been busy as well Charners, I think your right about Mick getting active in the loan window, as its proved he thought he could manage without Murphy up front, got slapped down there, I've said all along we needed another couple of good signings, to strengthen up, Didsy head isn't with it lately, he either needs a reality check or ship him out, Derby will storm away now, and Bournemouth wont be far behind, shows their intent with a 5 million bid for Brums Gray

Yes, that's the way I expect it to pan out now - Derby and Bournemouth to grab the 2 automatic promotion spots quite comfortably. I just hope that we can maintain our place in the top 6 - a play-off place was beyond my wildest dreams at the start of the season.ashfordblue wrote:Millwall & Blackpool have also been busy as well Charners, I think your right about Mick getting active in the loan window, as its proved he thought he could manage without Murphy up front, got slapped down there, I've said all along we needed another couple of good signings, to strengthen up, Didsy head isn't with it lately, he either needs a reality check or ship him out, Derby will storm away now, and Bournemouth wont be far behind, shows their intent with a 5 million bid for Brums Gray

Given that he's not signed for us, I take that as a positive.

Re: Transfer Deadline Day Activity.
According to local reports Town boss Mick McCarthy has reiterated his intention to use the emergency loan provision during the remaining months of the season.
“I said no one was leaving us so it was always going to be a quiet day,” McCarthy told the club site.
“With signing players, I’ve said many times, where do I get players that are better than what we have?
“We have done well with what we’ve got this season and I trust the players to carry that on. They are a great bunch.
“Bringing players in on loan is a possibility though. We can bring players in on emergency loans until the end of March and we can take them for up to 93 days which will take us up to the end of the season.”
That said, I think we could expect to see a couple of fresh faces sometime soon.

Derby may well have signed Three decent players but lets not forget Ibe was recalled by Liverpool and Johnny Russell has a bad injury so for me two of those are replacements for two good players that have been lost, it aint always Black & White.

...... and they still have a squad with six more players than we have, as do Bournemouth, Middlesbrough, & Brentford. This could prove crucial over the next six weeks when we have a run of 3 games pretty much every 8 days. After that we have a short break of 12/13 days from 21 March, followed by another 6 games in 22 days... all very hectic and potentially knackering for the players.
With all these games coming thick & fast I think I'd feel a little more comfortable if MM adds a couple of loanee's to the current squad so that tired players can be rested if necessary.

He has said only today that he will look to the loan market which for me is much more sensible than signing players willy nilly.

A deadline day passing without any of our players being poached along with the 100k bargain for Sears earlier in the month and Id say it was quite successful.
Couple of loans to freshen things up and job done for me.

Re: Transfer Deadline Day Activity.
Jesse Lingard is an excellent player! If MM gets a loan like JL I'll be well pleased. Agree with Charny the squad is rather thin, especially for automatic promotion. Sure I'd be happy with the playoffs, but we haven't been very good in knock out competitions, have we???

Re: Transfer Deadline Day Activity.
MM has stated repeatedly that he would only consider bringing in players who are better than what he's got - and who have done us well up to this point. However, the sort of players who are significantly better than what we have, are also likely to be significantly beyond our finances. That's perhaps difficult for some to get their heads round, when other clubs bucking for promotion seem to be doing decent business and improving their chances. But we are where we are, and that's in a remarkable position relative to the depth and quality of our squad, whose success is built on the sum of it's parts.
With a couple of astute additions in the emergency loan window, MM will continue to keep us in contention - of that I have no doubt.

At least we all agree on something for once, that makes a change.
A couple of decent loan signings and we'll all be happy.
Any sensible suggestions anyone on who you'd like to see added to the squad ?

While some degree of interest should be given to our immediate promotion rivals and what they are doing also, can only really focus on what this club brings in by way of this activity period. It says that we are due to bring in Dylan Connolly tomorrow but it's not a name I recognized. It would appear all our key players remain intact in that no-one has come in or made an offer so that's the most important thing. We'll give the new kids a try out and see what occurs in any event.

He's no Lingard, but I like the sound of signing a quick winger!

This one's also worth watching, although he may have to 'Wraight' to make the first team.
Good ole MM searching for another bargain; he certainly knows how to manage a team with limited funds.

I am pretty surprised at the apparent drooling over Lingard, without googling it does anyone really know much about him purely from what he has achieved ? I remember him banging in 6 goals or something in one match but that aside I dont recall him filling the back pages of any of my newspapers.

Re: Transfer Deadline Day Activity.
I saw him play in a couple matches either at the beginning of LVG's reign, or at the end of Moyes' reign. He was brilliant in both those matches, Mike. I suppose it could have been a fluke. I mean, he is being offered out on loan. Of course, maybe LVG thinks Lingard needs more experience before fitting into that expensive starting XI. I look forward to seeing him play for Derby.bluemike wrote:I am pretty surprised at the apparent drooling over Lingard, without googling it does anyone really know much about him purely from what he has achieved ? Re: Transfer Deadline Day Activity.
Do we really need any additions. The team is struggling because we're going through an interim rough area. It was going good enough up until the end of year and all of the sudden we hit a block and have struggled to get through subsequent fixtures. We have the capabilities, and a squad that many would deem useful and with key players to return and once the wins start to return and self-belief, I would hope that we have enough on board to see through to end of season. The new loan additions will get their chance but McCarthy is a time-tested established managerial figure, who knows what he has in mind, and what's best for the club in question.

Could be realistic, IT......., when Messi is 58 years old, he will still be better than most players....., maybe Mick, (who'll be 79 years old) could persuade him to PR.

That could work. By that age mick will have balls on the floor and no longer in the air so would suit messis style of play!!marko69 wrote:Could be realistic, IT......., when Messi is 58 years old, he will still be better than most players....., maybe Mick, (who'll be 79 years old) could persuade him to PR.

Do our balls head south after a few years? I didn't know that. Only thought it was the wifes nipples that were lower than knee level.
