Decent news. At least Mick is getting plenty cover in place for the leagues finale. It's going to be a tough couple of months.

Surprised there isn't more reaction to this one to be honest. I'm delighted. He's a quality striker and will strengthen our strike force for the last quarter of the season.
Another one out of nowhere too.......
Great job MM.

Not too sure about the recall option after 28 Days tho ?
But if he scores the winner against the $cum it would be worth that.

I've always been a great admirer of Chris Wood and this is a great signing for Town. It's a shame it didn't happen earlier as it may have influenced Anthony Knockeart to follow.

This was my suggestion on here to Mick ages ago, get Woody in, thought the Frenchie Knockeart would have joined and been an excellent double, but there you go, now try and get Williams back Mick

this could have been a back up plan, rather than getting both of them

Just think what might happen if only ME would give MM some £££!
Great addition to the squad. Welcome Chris, hope your time with us proves to be highly enjoyable and productive - starting with those noisy neighbours up the road!

A decent enough signing but would not have been worth doing it sooner as he was injured for a while.
What I do find strange is that we are bringing in strikers when it is the defence that looks weak lately.

Decent signing but will be on the bench for sure on Sunday.

Exactly what i thought this morning when i saw this. I thought Varney coming in was the cover we needed.

Sorry i dont get this thought process. Surely Evans IS giving MM £££, by funding these loans deals. I doubt Jonniesta of Wood are paid peanuts.

Both would have been better, but to be honest Varney now looks to be a waste of time & money signing.

In all truth it's not a name I can really recognize. Had to do a little research to glean some relevant information on this player and what was presented didn't generate much excitement. Comes over from Leicester on loan until end of season but even then his goals to game ratio there was hardly prolific and it appears he's spent half of his career out on loan from other clubs. Also scores say one in three games at international level for New Zealand, but bear in mind the caliber of most opposition sides.
Gives McCarthy an option for attack and with one or two players still on the inactive roster he'll get an opportunity to go out and contribute but not expecting much out of this. If he proves to be effective and reaches double figures (for example) in his short time here then fair enough I would have been incorrect but like it don't like it, that's the initial opinion.

I have to agree with your post, Saint. A lot of people probably overly pleased about the guy, (on paper, he ain't breaking any records) but Mick will know what he's doing. I hope.
I say "on paper" but people need to see what he can do on grass. When I used to play football, we had a goalkeeper "on grass". Took him about 3 days to take a bye kick.

I'm amazed by some of the comments relating to Chris Wood who is every bit as good as any of the strikers we have at Portman Road. Yes he has been out on loan a few times but if you look closer to the stats these were mostly when he was a teenager and even as a twenty year old he scored 11 goals for Millwall in just 19 appearances.
At Leicester City he is great favourite of the fans but he fell out badly with Nigel Pearson over his rumoured relationship with Pearsons daughter, which allegedly led to him losing his place in the first team.
I'm pretty sure that as soon as he breaks into our team he'll be a regular starter for the rest of the season and score plenty of goals. I'd also not be surprised to see Knockeart arrive sometime soon if Chris Wood settles quickly to life at Portman Road.

Anxious to see what he can do. Seems like he could be off the bench tomorrow.

Reminded of a player from years back that
always got a goal for his new club when making a first appearance but can't recall the name right now. May have been Sheringham. I think Greaves did the same but that'll be too far back for many.
I think tomorrow could be the setting for an unlikely hero. Murphy didn't score last time out in a four goal haul so there's every chance names could be made in this. Maybe both sides will be so nervous on the day and with so much as stake they'll simply cancel each other out and we'll arrive at a no score draw but seems doubtful.

Assuming he turns out to be a decent signing it's a good job we signed him when we did as Derby County are in the search for an emergency striker signing following injuries to Chris Martin & Darren Bent. With limited availability of strikers Derby could well have been an attractive alternative to Chris Wood before he committed the rest of this season to Town.

It looks like he'll be out for a month with a hamstring tear. That said he has scored 7 goals in as many weeks which would make him our joint second leading goalscorer!

Tbh at this stage in the season, and dare I say, at his age, it could well be the rest of the season. Lets see how they deal with yet another set back

..... As for Wood. He looked at least a stone overweight for me.
