Williams on his way back?
Interesting... There seems to be some confusion over whether we'll be able to take advantage of this apparent loophole in the rules which allows previously discontinued 'emergency loans' to be resumed...

Re: Williams on his way back?
Just don't see this as such a good idea as it once was, clearly won't be match fit after being out so long and we only have 7 games left !!! Pointless.

Thing is we just don't know what is going on behind the scenes. Is it possible that Bishop is going to be out a while now with his injury? I agree he clearly won't be match fit and on that score it does seem strange.
Knowing our luck he will come on for 10 minutes against Bournemouth and get injured again.

Excellent double swoop. Good cover for Mings and a bit of inspiration in midfield. Well done (again) to MM and ME.

Re: Williams on his way back?
Yes as I have just posted on another thread I can understand it as Bishop is unlikely to be appearing much more this season but I would say with a player being out as long as Williams has that it normally takes a good 2/3 weeks to get back up to match fitness etc and by then we will have what 4 games left ? While it can do no harm bringing him back it may not have the effect that many on first impressions think it will.Shed on tour wrote:Mikebluemike wrote:Just don't see this as such a good idea as it once was, clearly won't be match fit after being out so long and we only have 7 games left !!! Hopefully unlike his last stint with us we will actually win a game this time whilst he is here.bluemike wrote:Yes as I have just posted on another thread I can understand it as Bishop is unlikely to be appearing much more this season but I would say with a player being out as long as Williams has that it normally takes a good 2/3 weeks to get back up to match fitness etc and by then we will have what 4 games left ? Well nobody will be celebrating more than me if it proves to be a masterstroke, I hope to god that is exactly what happens.

Re: Williams on his way back?
Just text our friend who is a Palace season ticket holder and asked him about Fryers and he said Palace paid around 1.5 million for him and he played one cup game and was never picked again. He went on loan to Rotherham and didn't impress there so don't get excited but he might turn things around here.bluemike wrote:Well nobody will be celebrating more than me if it proves to be a masterstroke, I hope to god that is exactly what happens.

Re: Williams on his way back?
Glad to see we're getting a bit of cover for the final push. As far as Williams is concerned, he'll probably be used as a late sub until he regains match-fitness. It should only take a couple games, I hope. I'm assuming he'll be allowed to play in the playoffs if we make it? It could indeed be a master stroke if that's the case. Further, it never hurts to have another full back in the squad. COYBs!

Apparently, he's only eligible to play in the play-off semis if it comes to that...number 9 wrote:Glad to see we're getting a bit of cover for the final push. I dont think Bishop will figure in many of our remaining games, which means the only creative player we have in MF is Bru. That isnt enough. Parr may still be injured and Mings is out for 2 games. But even if Parr is fit we are going into tail end of season with a small, largely knackered squad. Id say these players are needed. The thought of Williams coming off bench for last 20 mins of game, could be a game changer with his tricks and turns.
I also remain convinced that we will eventually sign Williams on a permanent deal.

Re: Williams on his way back?
TBH we're probably in a better position to make the play offs with these guys than without them and it also shows that ME has again been prepared to put his hands in his pockets which is something he's often accused of not doing.
With Wood, Sears & Varney added to the front line,
Williams, Chaplow & Connolly added to the midfield,
and, Fryers + Elliott(recalled) added to the defence these are 8 additional signings to what we had pre Christmas and should seriously strengthen our challenge and provide serious cover for injuries, I don't think we have too much to complain about.
I just wish I hadn't read about Kenwyne Jones signing for Bournemouth, surely not another player to make his debut against us. Still, Darren Bent didn't do much for Derby County on his potential debut day at Portman Road.
....and Oh No, Paul Taylor has just signed for Blackburn Rovers our opponents on the last day of the season, I hope there are no slip ups in the contract cos I'd hate for him to be playing against us on the last day, just imagine his incentive to score a hat trick against us!

Re: Williams on his way back?
Just read on TWTD that:
Taylor will be ineligible for Town's final day of the season game against Blackburn at Ewood Park.
Very pleased to be reassured.

That is because luckily he did not play.Charnwood wrote:TBH we're probably in a better position to make the play offs with these guys than without them and it also shows that ME has again been prepared to put his hands in his pockets which is something he's often accused of not doing.

Just wish we'd have had this pool of players much earlier in season, assuming they were available of course.

Well we didn't do too badly with the pool of players we did have Hallam. Come on, remember the glass is really half full.....
..... actually well over half full in my opinion.

Is the glass ever half full at Ipswich ?
And Shed, I think you will find palace paid 5 million for Fryers in the summer.

Out of interest where did you get that figure from?
From what i have been told it was £1.5 million plus add on's which obviously haven't come into effect.
This article seems to state the same thing.

It is on the front of TWTD in the article about the two signings.

Ok, think I will take what my source told me as nearer the fee although it makes no difference to us what they paid.bluemike wrote:It is on the front of TWTD in the article about the two signings.

So basically it was anything between £1.5 mill to £5 mill. Much easier to say undisclosed fee!!!!!
