Having already had my annual visit to Portman Road in February I didn't think I would be getting back so soon. I made my mind up couple of weeks ago that I was definitely going if we got Norwshit in the play offs and got four tickets yesterday and booked the flights. I normally go with my brother and do a Friday to Sunday trip and have a good drink on the Friday and Saturday and make our hungover way back to Standstead on the Sunday. However my 14yr old daughter and his 11yr old son are not missing this game and we are doing the trip in one day : Leave home 4.00am , flight from Dublin 6.30 , drive to Ipswich , see town beat the scum 3 - 0 , drive back to Stanstead for 6.30pm flight and home. My problem is the timing on the return journey - we have to be back in Standstead for about 5.30 at latest and I'm not sure what traffic will be like going out the A137 after the game and where best to park for quick exit. I've looked at the park and ride from London Road but it doesn't say how long it takes to get in or out of town centre using the bus. After all that long winded background what I need some advice on is :
Journey time into town centre from London Road Park & Town.
Journey time opposite way after the game - allowing that it would be 2.45 at earliest that we can get from ground to bus stop.
If it is better to drive into Town centre is there parking anywhere on the A137 around Dock Street or Gower Street etc and what is traffic like after a game.
I just want to have it sorted in my mind before I get there so we can enjoy the game - we are in the East of England Co-Op(Lower) and I can definitely say it will be the biggest town game I've ever been at.
Thanks in advance for any advice and apologies if this is in the wrong area of the forum

Tried to help you out but having some technical difficulties and losing patience fastioneill wrote:Having already had my annual visit to Portman Road in February I didn't think I would be getting back so soon. Look, haven't been to Portman Road for quite some time but there's a site called footballgroundguide.com but it keeps f**king up my browser (may well work for others) and can do no more but on there it has some relevant information including where to park and costs. They gave a decent review so recommended.
Maps would appear to indicate inadequate parking space around the Dock street vicnity and shows no actual parking lots. Your best bet would be along Grafton Way opposite the retail park, close to the stadium, or further along West End Road or the Rail Station itself. Apparently the traffic out of Ipswich (as with Norwich) after a game is often difficult.
There will be others who will (or should) come forward that are more familiar with the area who can offer better advice but tried to provide some assistance.
