Midfielder Luke Hyam is facing up to another four months on the sidelines having undergone surgery on the knee injury which has kept him out of action since January.
“Sadly we’ve lost Luke Hyam to injury,” manager Mick McCarthy told the club site from the squad’s training camp at the Carton House Hotel in Co Kildare in Ireland.
“He’s suffered a setback and could be looking at three and a half to four months out.

“He’s rehabbed twice now and he’s had surgery this morning [Friday]. Hopefully that will get him right but it’s a big loss for us and my heart breaks for him.
“You’d be disappointed for anyone to get an injury like that but for it to happen to such a good, hardworking pro is really sad. He will be a big miss for us and he was really upset when he had to leave the training camp.
“We wish him a speedy recovery and hopefully he can be back sooner rather than later, we want him back fit playing for us.”
The 23-year-old initially suffered the injury in the FA Cup replay against Southampton.
I think we can safely forget about him making a return unfortunately.

Well he's out for 4 months, that for me means its gonna be Jan/feb before he's up to speed to play.
hope this isn't gonna drag on and on, and he comes back completely healed

Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy is ready to hit the transfer market and spend a seven-figure fee after it emerged that midfielder Luke Hyam, inset, is set for a four-month spell on the sidelines following a fresh injury setback.
The 23-year-old was forced to fly home from the club’s pre-season training camp in Ireland earlier this week and underwent surgery on his knee yesterday morning. It’s a bitter blow for the Ipswich-born academy graduate, who had only just returned to action following a frustrating campaign which saw him sidelined more often than not.
The EADT understands that owner Marcus Evans – who recently received £8m for left-back Tyrone Mings from Bournemouth – has given McCarthy the green light to spend a seven-figure fee on a midfielder, with the Blues boss breaking away from training several times yesterday to talk on the phone.
“Sadly, we’ve lost Luke Hyam through injury,” revealed McCarthy. “He’s rehabbed twice now but has suffered another setback. He’s just had surgery this morning.
“He could be three-and-a-half to four months out, which takes us through to Christmas. You’d be disappointed for anybody, but for such a conscientious, hard-working pro like Luke it breaks your heart. He was really upset leaving here Wednesday evening.
“We missed his energy and dynamic style of play at times last season, the way he breaks things up for us. We want him back and wish him a speedy recovery.”
Believe it when I see it, get set for the Jonny Williams links to surface again.

To be honest Mike, I'd welcome Williams back.
And a 7 figure sum would/could tie in with it. Williams(if I remember right) is now in his last year of his contract, and loved his time at Town. Have Palace offered him a new one? Does Pardew want him? will he get 1st team games? I really don't think he will and after laying out £10 million I think Palace will want a little back.
But hey ho it might not even be Williams

I blame that ferkin thug Lansbury who took Hyam out at the away game last season. Poor sod has hardly kicked a ball since!

Oh what, just as he was saying he was making a return and now suffered another injury out 4 months. Got to feel for the lad, but yeah if he can't get into the team come the new year and him being out of contract his days at the club could be numbered.

I don't think that'll happen James, but I do think the club will be more cautious in the new contract, They won't let him go on a free unless the medics and phyiso's say he's not going to make it back.

Gutted for him, always been a fan of Hyam so it's a massive shame to see this happen. Unfortunately as Mike said, this really won't be helping his Town career so I really hope he recovers for good this time.

I question why the hell he didnt have this surgerybat the close of last season? He hasnt bden able to train or play and was out for months. Why wait until the start of the new!! They must havd had more than a good idea what the state of his knee was like.
I'll try and find out what exactly his problem was.

I thought he got injured at Bournmouth??
Hyam is turning into Jack Collison. In 13/14 I really didn't rate him but last season until his injury I was impressed he seemed to find a new level!! This surgery is the last chance saloon.

Hyam's last appearance was back on 4th Jan in the FA Cup game away at Southampton, he was originally ruled out for a month with this Knee ligament thing but has not played since.
