OOOHH AAHHHH
Love when the crowd sings that! I was about to ask peeps here how much they think we have improved over the summer so far. Lost Mings, keep Murph and add two (at least off the top of my head).
I am starting to think top two...

I said all along there was no chance of him leaving.
He needs to target 15+. But Damn our front line looks good.

Great great news, I must confess I was starting to expect him to go, especially after one or two things I had heard, massive news for us that the main man is staying here, as AylesburyBlue says we have some awesome front Four now, getting the supply to them from the wings and Midfield is the key now, most defences just won't be able to handle us.

I'm quite sure it's "score" not "get"
Yes it's good news he has signed a new contract but it means nothing if someone comes in for the right bid as I recall Cresswell signing a new deal and then we sold him in the Summer.
But least on our books for another 2 years theoretically.

Bookie,s have us around 8th in the odd,s for promotion on Sky site

..given the money spent around the clubs and teams coming down it might not be far off , and yes aware that it is not all about money..but it helps..and soon the gulf will become to wide and we will see the mini yo-yo league at the top of the Championship..!!..hope the team gels because seasons may be running out for most teams

That's Ok James. I'll live with that if you say that's correct!

I'm totally comfortable to be "written off" again. Suits us just fine.
imo we need two more players. Creative midfielder and a right back or left back ( to allow Parr to switch sides and Chambers to go to CB).

Why try to make a drama out of the Murphy thing ? I was worried he might leave but the events and comments today have squashed that 100%, it is common sense that cresswell was signed on a longer deal to help with the value he went for where as Murphy is never going to be worth more than the 4 or 5 million being offered to us anyway so today's signing of a new contract can be for no other reason than to keep him here.

Murphy wants to be promoted with Ipswich! His contract extension is a really good sign. I think it shows the cohesion in the blue organization. Good ole Murphy! I've always wondered why a player wouldn't like life in Suffolk! Ipswich is a lovely town and we're going up up up! COYB!

When I checked the bookies last night we are tied around 11th. Derby, Boro, Hull, Wolves, Burnley, Brentford, QPR, Bristol City, Forrest, Sheff wed ahead and us level with Fulham.
I don't get why we are so far out :s

Thats the way Ohio! We have as good a chance as anyone in this division

Well with just our current squad I think we can do a Bournemouth, and get auto, and 16+ penalties

its a bloody site better than last seasons squad and we finished in the playoffs, so I'm like you Liz more than happy to be in 11th place in the betting, if I can muster the bookies to give me say 25's I will have a Monkey or a bag of sand on that

and I think there's maybe another two players to come in yet, its looking good.

Yea, I am a little confused on the 11th place thing. Spending money on transfers is not a guarantee of success per se, eh Mr Keane? We finished sixth, and that wasn't a fluke. We have only improved so far...all the way to second may be a stretch but in MM I trust.

Thats not what I am seeing, on Ladbrokes, Corals and William Hill who to me are the big boys we are joint 6th or 7th favourites in the betting, that is going by the odds on Oddschecker anyway.

still not very good though, is it, given we finished 5th last season. The bookies obviously expect us to go backwards rather than forwards - the thing that worries me is that they are seldom wrong.

If they're only predicting mid table for us this year, then they would have been very, very wrong already last season.

Why isnt it very good ? they base their thoughts on teams spending millions, they got it totally wrong last year and almost certainly will do again this season. By the way Rossi, we finished 6th mate, pay attention.

Oh yeah, sorry - my typo
The bookies didn't get it totally wrong last season - although it's true that nobody saw Bournemouth coming.
It's just that it amuses me seeing people on this board making blind predictions about us finishing top 2 when there is really no foundation for that at all. Nobody can really predict what's gonna happen before a ball is kicked, which is probably why the bookies tend to favour clubs that have spent money at this time of year. But for me there is no cause for wild optimism yet - we conceded 4 goals yesterday - only a friendly it's true, but suggests to me that the defensive problems of last season are far from being rectified.

I completely agree about the top Two thing, I don't think we have come that far that we can say top Two with any confidence, however a couple more good signings in key areas may well make it a real possibility. I do however see us as a real good bet for the play offs again, I think our forward line can rival anything this division has to offer and with the wide men we now have at our disposal the supply should be much better than last season when we scored loads of goals.
I do think we still need some tinkering at the back and the RB slot is the key area, not because Chambo lets us down but because we are much better with him at CB alongside Berra. We seem to be blooding these youngsters into the first team squad and in Kyle Hammond, Josh Emmanual and Myles Kenlock we may just have another gem already, who knows ?? I really wouldnt be at all concerned at conceding Four goals in a very low key friendly in which we swapped the whole team around again and played a few kids, it was nothing more than a fitness workout.

For me the interesting thing is to see how we will play this season. Could it be that McCarthy has the two pacy wingers that he used in that great Wolves team? Perhaps it's more realistic to say that we have more options in terms of style this coming season.
First couple of games will be very interesting......

I wouldn't be surprised to see another FB brought in, either loan or contract. Does anyone think we'll sign another goalie? I'm expecting a different approach this season with more attacking displays that result in wins. If we start the season with the same old 'hoofball' tactics, I'll be very disappointed. I'm convinced we can get automatic promotion, but adjustments will obviously have to be made.

We're not really desperate for a keeper...
