You Can Stick The Positives Where The Sun Don't Shine
Yes, there were plenty of positives on view today - Fraser, Emmanuel, Knudsen, AML - and Sears had a really good game.
And yet, once again, we throw away a lead and drop 2 points. Absolutely no progress at all.
Don't blame the players.
How many times last season did we question the substitutions made?
Last season, for far too many games, we sat back on a lead and lost it.
And today, no different. The substitutions were absolutely beyond belief.
From the moment MM took away the wide element of our game we were in trouble.
So what happened all too often last season happened again today.
Different players, same result.
Just because you are allowed to make 3 substitutions doesn't mean you have to FFS.
I don't doubt that MM has the ability to assemble a decent squad for next to nothing.
But what's the point of that if he's just going to throw results away with his inept tactics?
It's not the players, it's the tactics.
As long as MM is manager of this club, we will win absolutely nothing - I'm afraid he's a tired old dinosaur with the tactical nous of a Yorkshire pudding.

Can not agree , sorry...while i take your points in general to say MM has nothing about him tactically ??really...so this is the same MM that
Got Sunderland promoted
Got Wolves promoted
Got Eire to the last 12 of the world cup
Got Town into the play off,s with bugger all money (and according to many with has beens / or free,s that nobody really wanted)..our best season result for what 8 years + ??
He did not see the worth of the 4 players you yourself mentioned.
I squarely blame the players..if they can not keep a ball out of a net twice in what 4-5 mins , should they be on the pitch ,
Yep he knows bugger all that MM..!!

Can't agree rossi sorry. Without MM Town would be dead and buried in league one or two by now.
He and TC have brought us on in leaps and bounds in little over 3 seasons taking over a truly shocking situation at PR. We now have real talent breaking into the 1st team from the academy. A front line not bettered by many and if you'd seen how Bru ran the midfield yesterday and the wingers run Brentford ragged you wouldn't feel too despondent. I was gutted to gift 2 goals late on but we need to sort the defence out now - having by and large sorted most other areas now.
For me Smith is too one dimensional although he actually had his best game for a while. Our GK continue to concern me. McCarthy has stated he is after a player that can play across the back four. I think ( know) he will sort this.
Not many teams will come away from Griffin Park this season . We bossed them for most of the game. AND IMO we will be stuffing one or two teams this season.

Hopefully all visiting teams will come away from Griffin Park this season.

We all feel like it was a defeat yesterday but a pinch of realisme is needed here. Yes we threw a victory away but we never lost like i feared we would (check my prediction) and most would have taken a point before kick off.
The same MM and TC have totally turned our club around, from a place where nobody wanted to come to real contenders.
Im not saying we will win the league but we are no whipping boys anymore.
Keep the faith.

A league cup game is coming up soon and can't remember who we play this time but hope McCarthy takes it seriously and plays a strong squad. This is a competition where we could go a long way and other less recognized clubs have shown in recent years they can win this or get to the final and it's something I've always wanted to see added to our honors list.phily bon bon wrote:We all feel like it was a defeat yesterday but a pinch of realisme is needed here. No need to really add anything to yesterdays game, that horse has already been ridden into the ground, but one last time, the loss of points when it occured was always going to bring about a high level of outrage. People will invariably be over it by the time of next weeks fixture and if we can show the same level of determination as yesterday and cut out any stupid defensive errors / complacency, then we'll at least achieve something. Prepared to give McCarthy another season and see what occurs.

Rossi your completely deluded. Mick has transformed the club in the past 3 years. Took an average team and got us in the play offs last year and this year we are even stronger in squad depth too. We looked exciting going forward and when Berra and parr are both available and fit we still have one of the best defences in the championship alongside one of the best front lines.
You should think us lucky we still have mick
I have never seen a group of players work so hard for each other with so much passion. We have a team to be proud of

Re: You Can Stick The Positives Where The Sun Don't Shine
I have to say I agree with the original post.
McCarthy is a decent manager - he must be to have achieved what he has and to stay in the job as long as he has. He has many strengths; he can find decent players cheaply and his man management is obviously good - people want to play for him and they run their gits out for him.
But. The quality of football is generally unsatisfactory. (I'm referring to last season - didn't see Saturday's game).
Substitutions and tactics late on have led to very tense finishes, goals conceded and occasionally points dropped.
I remember the Fulham home game, early last season. Fulham played very attractive footy with a young side but hardly posed a threat. We were 2 up. No problems. All under control. So what did we do? we sat back and defended. We ended up winning that one 2-1 but it could so easily have been the same result as Saturday. There was absolutely no need to change the game plan and defend as Fulham seemed incapable of turning possession into chances and goals. Until we sat back.
So I agree that Mick saved us when he arrived. I agree he has produced better results year on year. But I also agree that he is - despite age and experience - tactically naïve. And that he won't achieve promotion with Ipswich. I feel sorry for him because he will find it hard to do better this season than last, and in his job - like any other - people expect constant improvement. If - as I expect - we finish mid table (or even top half but outside the playoffs) will people still want him to stay?

Re: You Can Stick The Positives Where The Sun Don't Shine
I think he cose the wrong striker to go on an close down. Didsy cant run for toffees, so was never able to close down. Wthout the MOM displays of Bru/ AMN no longer on the pitch putting Brentford on the back foot, meant our defence was under increasing attack from last ditch over the top balls. The defence didnt deal with it , and we stopped being an attacking threat.
Now, had Pitman been the player brought on , we would have had a pacey outlet. Ill say it again, McGoldrick is simply not quick enough for an out and out forward now , and especially in a fast game as it was , when you needed a striker that could cjhase / harry and close down quickly.

Re: You Can Stick The Positives Where The Sun Don't Shine
We can dissect it even more than that if we really want to, had Didsy run the ball into the corner flag instead of pissing around with it while trying to play it out to someone we would have still won the game, end of, no manager in the world can stop prats doing things like that once they take to the field of play.
