Swindon V Town

Post by bluepeter » Sat Aug 15, 2015 10:09 pm

How many did we have there.
Coming home from Hols in the SW all we saw were Town
Google 0-6 Swindon Ipswich
The whole ground seemed to be ITFC
lets do it again.
I'm getting my Silk scarves out and my lucky pants that I wore in 78 and the Mrs has given me the OK

Can't recall the game in question although we played a lot of standout games around that time. Having a similar score win against Barnsley being such an example. 4/3/99 was the date of fixture and can at least remember missing out on auto promotion a week or two later as Bradford (?) got the result they needed to take second place.

Here is a comprehensive link to the day (with match highlights) from an opposition standpoint.

We cut teams to pieces at times.
With our current squad we can do it again.

Obviously can't play Swindon (again) as they're (now) in a different league to us (unless it was reference to some future vision cup-game later this season)

Best guess would be the author was suggesting of a repeat performance against some other opposition ahead ?

(If I wanted to use a past game as reference for a team performance best example would be St Etienne away in '81 but each to their own)

Still ranked by leading sports journalists as recently as a couple of years back as one of the "top ten" performances ever by a British club in an European competition.

I wonder where the Norwich achievement in Munich would register in all that
