.....The table not looking good now. Only a win v Hull City will do. Need 6 wins on the trot.

15 wins would be better and we would be promoted. But unfortunately this will not happen. :(

Not surprising really as we didn't play.

Yes it is strange that despite not playing we dropped down further.

Yes, as others have noted, astounding seeing as we didn't play.

However.........even though we did not play, we have points to make up - doesn't matter if we have games in hand, we still have to win them. Worst thing is, however many points we are behind, we need to add 1, because our goal difference is vastly inferior to the clubs around us.

Seeing as we waved the white flag with both cup competitions this season (McCarthy puts all emphasis on the league) there can be little excuse for some in not obtaining a play-off finish this season. Ok, player's out here and there and we don't have perhaps a full squad to select from for individual games, but is this unique in the league ? This will apply to a great many others as well as ourselves.

For what seems the 100th time, fact of the matter being, we're simply not consistent enough to realistically maintain any real ambition of getting out of this league. Picking up late goals once or twice a month to salvage a point or indeed victory won't be nearly enough for promotion aspirations, not to mention McCarthy failing to realize high-ball tactics are keeping the club back.

We're not out of the play-off picture, far from it, but seems week by week you get increasingly pissed off with what the fans are ultimately delivered, and eventually, it will come to a point of the season, where all those dropped points, indifferent performances and players not working to full potential : will prove the difference between another top six opportunity and another twelve month stay in the championship league.

I have to say SJ, your obsession with the Cup competitions is doing my head in. :)

It's not an obsession - and least not no more than any other supporter who wants the team to do well and achieve something again. This horse has been rode into the ground but once last time, some of us want a manager that takes these damn competitions seriously, not put out a team full of kids and unrecognized names and leave us with little hope of progression.

What have we achieved in cup competition since winning our last (significant) domestic trophy in 1978 ? An FA cup semi-final, and two or three league cup semi-finals. This is over a time span of near 40 years and really should read better.

As said before, people take issue when McCarthy puts across he wants all focus on league endeavors - only to find a poor result waiting directly after a cup game (strong squad back and playing a weak opposition), not once but twice this season.

If that's being overly obsessive then so be it but just irritated to a certain extent by missed opportunities.
