I was sad to hear the passing away of former AC Milan defender and Italy coach Cesare Maldini who has died, aged 84.

I still remember his visit to Ipswich with the eventual 1963 European Cup winners. I'd bunked of school at lunchtime and went to the Great White Horse Hotel in Tavern Street where the Italian Team were staying and got all the players autographs ahead of the match, and managed to get myself in a photograph with the Milan team which was printed in the Evening Star.

Town won the "last 16" second leg tie 2-1 in front of a 37000 Portman Road crowd, but went out 4-2 on aggregate. AC Milan went on to win their first ever European Cup beating Benfica 2-1 in the final played at Wembley.

RIP Mr Maldini.

Yes, that was the game v Floriana who we wacked 10-0 at Portman Road in our first ever European Cup tie. This result set the record for the biggest British European Cup win of all time, an honour which we share with Leeds United who beat SFK Lyn of Norway by the same margin 8 yrs later to equal our record which still stands.

LOL, Andy there is nobody more proud than me of our illustrious history and past trust me, I just felt the point you made on the other threrad was a very valid and worthy of making a point regarding fans support etc, that is all I meant.
