The clearout begins....

Jay Tabb, Luke Varney & Cameron Stewart (if anyone wants him) have all been told they are not being offered deals, no great surprise although I am in Two minds over Varney, he is no goalscorer but every time he has come on he has done very well, super in the air, and some good assists to his name. I suppose we need to strive to bring in better though.

Kevin Foley may well be offered something, talks still ongoing.

Obviously views Sears as a striker! Suggests that Murph and McG will be here next term so, together wth Pittman, giving us four strikers. Pleased that we stood by Varney, who has made some positive contributions, but clearly not seen by MM as being ahead of any of the Fab Four.

Interesting one on Foley - or Foles as MM calls him. If Chambers reverts to CB, as stated by MM in an interview ahead of the MK Dons game, then would have thought that he would need Emmanuel plus cover? Also, looks as if either Smith or Berra might depart.

Decision also needed on the likes of Toure whose contract is up in the summer. Stewart and Tabb already known about. Bottom line must be to get the wage bill adjusted, in order to bring in one or two quality players, not just average squad fillers. ME - over to you buddy!

In my opinion, the Fab Four won't get the club promoted. Every chance of play offs with midfield adjustments, but ITFC need a Jordan Rhodes type. Maybe a Naki Wells from Udders? I don't know......., clutching! Murphy won't repeat the 14/15 season.

I'd agree about Varney. He's the nearest player of the same type as Murphy ( and he won't / shouldn't be the future going forward) but if he's out injured we have no "target " man.

Pringle supposedly wanted by Rangers, not heard anything on Feeney yet.

Have to say I agree with Marko here on this one. We would have to improve the midfielders and wingers and keep the four mentioned to have half a chance for progressing. There are some big sides coming down with serious money to buy whom they want.

... if we can bring in a striker... then great.... bu agree that midfield is the key. Not a Douglas-hater, but him being employed as a second defensive midfielder through most of the season isn't the way to be set up to win games, especially at home. Bishop returning could be very important if he could play alongside Skuse, but I have a sneaky feeling if the results go against us Mick will shut up shop and go with Douglas or Hyam alongside Skuse and then we've got Groundhog days again.
Come on Mick, offload a few more and bring in some fresh faces with a fresh attitude.

Fresh faces are most certainky needed, but the change of attitude has to come from the manager.

Not just attitude but style of play.

If we're talking clearout or getting rid of the dead wood then first and foremost I'd shortlist McCarthy. Lost count of the number of instances he has proved problematic or indeed belligerent this past season and not going to change opinion on the back of say, one or two favorable scores when it's all too little to make any difference.

In an ideal world Evans can vacate also, but it's ultimately a blind alley when the majority it would seem are prepared to tolerate him another year or two and then we got the issue of "there will be money for the manager to spend" (next season). Believe it when we see it, and if it's going to be (as suggested) acquisitions in the range of one million, it really isn't going to buy you an awful lot in today's market.

As for the team itself, I don't get to take in live action like a number of other participants consistently enough to offer opinion on all players, but realize enough the forward line needs urgent attention and our leading names such as Murphy, Sears and Pitman have been disappointing and while McGoldrick had a goal today, it's not enough to sway some on previous opinion.

I genuinely mean no harm to anyone, but some people need to go find a high height, and launch themselves from it.

1/ Yes, the club hit a bad spell......., everyone saw it, no one is disputing it.

2/ McCarthys hands tied in many ways, (not all) and the club finish 7th. Above the likes of QPR & Fulham.

If Mick McCarthy is seriously as bad as many of the fans on this forum think, then things can only get better? No?

7th? Pretty decent IMO.

Some folk would be better off supporting tiddlywinks league! (Just another opinion....two stops past Barking!) :D

Agree Marko, Ive felt like that for much of the season, and no doubt the Summer break will be much of the same.

If it's the same old shyte next season, then MM should p*ss off. However, I'm happy to give him another chance now. It's not like the fans have any say anyway. I completely agree much of our failure this season was due to injuries...but that's exactly why you need a bit of depth and a plan B (not the pill). I'm still not happy with 7th. I want promotion.

WHAT IF............, Burnley clear out Dyche for a bigger name? This could happen, IMO.

Would anyone on here prefer Dyche over Mick? Hypothetically speaking obviously. We all know Mick has signed a two season contract.

I don't actually see Dyche going anywhere, nor would I swap him for MM, however if we were looking for a manager and Dyche was available then yes please.

I was actually worried about the post being viewed as extremely negative towards Mick, but glad you knew what I was meaning.

And same here, I rate Sean Dyche very highly and I love his no nonsense approach in the media. None of this "didn't see it" tosh. I absolutely love managers who say, "I thought we were very lucky indeed with that decision but that's football, the modern game and we'll take the rough with the smooth!"......., or something along those lines a few weeks ago. Honest and to the point.

Unlike Peter tomatoheid Jambo bstd Houston last night.

Agree that IF events were to pan out that way, then Dyche would be an excellent fit for us. But there's currently no vacancy here, and no reason to think that will change any time soon.

In many ways - and I think MM has said similar - Burnley is an excellent example of how to run a successful club - both on and off the pitch. (Parachute payments notwithstanding!)

Town boss Mick McCarthy says he will be looking to add goals to his midfield during the close season with widemen again amongst his targets.

The Blues, whose midfield McCarthy admits haven't scored regularly enough, have lost a number of players who operate out wide this summer, while previous recruits such as Alex Henshall, Dylan Connolly and Cameron Stewart, who remains a Town player but is available for transfer, have failed to make an impact.

“It’s important to get our recruitment right this summer, but that’s no different from any other year really,” the Blues boss told the club website.

“The wide areas are an issue for us. We have lost Tabby [Jay Tabb]. Ainsley [Maitland-Niles] has gone back to Arsenal and obviously Ryan [Fraser] is back with Bournemouth so we need to look at that.

“Goals from midfield have been a problem for us over the last two or three years but we looked to have got on top of that with Ryan, who certainly contributed in that area. He was a real loss for us.

“Kevin Bru got a couple of goals, Dougie [Jonathan Douglas] is a goalscoring midfielder operating in the right system, we need to get Bish [Teddy Bishop] back fit and contributing in attacking areas as well. We certainly need more in terms of goals from our midfield.”

Regarding 25-year-old Stewart, who has a year left on the contract he signed in the summer of 2014, having so far made just two Town sub appearances in the FA Cup during the 2014/15 campaign and spent most of the season just gone on loan at Doncaster, he added: “He’ll be looking to get a club.

“He’ll be back for pre-season, he was here [recently] and got weighed, his body fat was measured and got his programme for the summer. He’s in good shape at the minute, he’s not been playing, but he’ll come back.

“I’m always disappointed if it doesn’t work out, whatever it might be, because that’s a reflection on me because I signed him and it’s a reflection on him because he’s the player and he has to perform.”

MM setting out the need for more quality/goals from midfield - confirming what 20,000-odd fans know so well - is the easy bit! Identifying players to bring in, at the right price, will be the real challenge. Or, trying to find the odd loanee of Ryan Frazer's standard - not easy. But really hope whatever the route taken, we genuinely improve the quality level, a key component of which must be be pace.

Typical honesty over getting Cameron Stewart's abilities wrong. Still don't really understand exactly why it didn't work out; poor in training, poor attitude, lack of work ethic?? Or just not a MM player.

Seemingly Cameron Stewart didn't set the world alight at Doncaster either, real shame. Maybe he'll come back and try to prove MM wrong. Hope so but doubt it
