Now that really was one of the best days of my life, certainly when it comes to football. The semi final at Highbury wan't too bad either and equally if not even more memorable.

I was almost ten years old and in London that weekend. If I hadn't been visiting my late and great Uncle Francis, I probably still wouldn't have even heard of Ipswich Town FC and no doubt become a Nottingham Forest fan a year later!

Year after year since the victory I've imagined we could duplicate that achievement, but to no avail. Running out of further opportunity fast while time remains. Only been in one semi-final in all the years since, and other than that, we have rarely looked able to ever winning the competition a second time.

The opposition may have been favorites on the day but we'd built very good squad with Sir Robson in the immediate years before, and had achieved a top three place twelve months previous, that were then equipped to challenge for honors, but we could have won by a much greater margin on that day. Shame that year's league performance didn't match the cup heroics, but as with Southampton two years earlier we'd provided a great score for the neutrals and had seen a largely unrecognized name take on one of the biggest club sides in the industry - and win.

While that was mighty impressive for all involved, it was merely a taster as to what was to come three years later and the glory and achievement of the latter season. Wild times a club of this stature by rights some could argue, we should not have endured, but that it happened and the memories involved, it's something you can take away forever.

2/ who's the coach in track suit standing next to SBR? Looks like Paul Hegarty!

I'm pretty sure that the player is "super sub" Mick Lambert. He came on for goal scorer Roger Osborne after 78 minutes.

The guy next to Bobby Robson is the coach: Bobby Ferguson. He took over as manager in 1982.

And as for Mills - it's the moustache that does it!

Aaagh! My apologies - You are absolutely right Marko - that is Ferguson lurking behind Paul Cooper and it is Cyril Lea next to Robson. Cyril was caretaker manager following Bill McGarry's departure in Nov 1968 to Jan 1969 when Bobby Robson was appointed. Cyril was then 1st team coach until passing the responsibility onto Bobby Ferguson in 1978. Cyril went on to manage Colchester.
