Hate starting new threads but couldn't find anywhere to put this, and I think it's quite important. A really good, excellent incentive for Marcus Evans to make even more of an effort to haul Ipswich Town into the higher league?........., Burton Albion? Ipswich Town will be sharing a league with Burton Albion next season. Need to get that the fk sorted out, Mevans.

And it's still Roy Keanes fault.

Also sharing a league with Villa, Newcastle and Norwich LOL.

Yip......., but I was speaking about Burton Albion! Think I posted something similar when Yeovil Town arrived. The mighty Ipswich Town, Wolves, Leeds United, Aston Villa........, in the same league as......... Burton Albion! Where the fk is Burton anyway? You'll need to update your satnav for next season, Mikey boy.

Believe Burton is in the East Midlands vicinity, maybe Derby or Nottingham, but not 100 per cent on it. Couldn't provide any information about the club in question regards manager, players or even name of venue, but they have quite an achievement here to be playing second league soccer next season.

One of the games less recognized names and they'll be a welcome addition to the league in August. In the bizarre season just witnessed where all things are possible, they could even be of EPL status twelve months from the present time.

Burton Albion are a team loved in the East Midlands but probably less so now they play at the same level as their neighbours Derby County & Nottingham Forest. Their home ground is the Pirelli Stadium named after the well known Tyre Company who were given the naming rights to the Stadium having donated the land in 2005 which was immediately opposite their old stadium Eton Park.
Their current manager is Nigel Clough son of Brian Clough who is on his second spell at the club having left previously to join Derby County. Other well known managers in recent years have been Roy McFarland, Paul Peschisolido, Gary Rowlett and Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink.
They often attract young loan players from nearby Nottingham Forest, Derby County, Birmingham City and Leicester City or older players from the same clubs towards the end of their careers, this may happen less now the clubs are in direct competition.
They are a great little club and their stadium holds less than 7000 where they can create a great atmosphere. Their nickname is The Brewers which stems from the town brewing heritage which goes back hundreds of years.

Was really just a "sign o' the times" type thread. Was in no way meaning to belittle Burton Albion. It is indeed a great achievement......., and under Nigel Clough no less, (the true legends son) I think the older ones (who have difficulty with change; like me) need to get used to teams like Bournemouth in the EPL. And teams like (possibly) Burton in the EPL. How a 7K capacity stadium will manage that is anyone's guess, but fair play.

I expect Grimsby Town to win the Vanarama play off final and be a championship side in a few years time. I also believe Ebbsfleet United will be Champions League material by 2025.

It's got to be good that football doesn't stand still, and events like Leicester winning the EPL, B'mouth in the EPL and Burton coming into the C'ship give every underdog it's day. The sheer uncertainty, with pundits choking on their fine words, ensure it retains that bit of 'magic' that keeps us all hooked. The wheel turns and who knows what's going to come around! (Surely our turn soon!)

As for Grimsby, can recall travelling there to watch us - and eating fish, chips and mushy peas before the match! Their hero at the time was a striker called Mendonca; I have a feeling that it was defeat away to Grimsby that sealed George Burley's fate - a C'ship fixture on the day.

Meanwhile, I have a long distant relative who played for what was then Gravesend and Ebbsfleet. Happy days!

Herford......., I've been to the Stonebridge Road, when it was Gravesend & Northfleet. What a memorable day that was. Six of us working in London for 3 weeks. Two memorable moments were,
1/ When "the fleet" scored their 2nd goal of 3 vs sittingbourne, we were all joining in with Fleet fans, celebrating, but about 50 yards away there were about ten SittingBourne fans; my big buddy Neil says, "Guys, GUYS, keep it down a bit eh, we're near the sittingbourne end!"

2/ was the same day Scotland beat Iceland to qualify for France 98......., we were heading out of the grounds pub and this woman who looked and sounded like Barbara Windsor, said, "What a great result eh?"......, I said, "Too right, darling, 2-0 Scotland?"........ She shouted, "NAAAAAA, FREE -NIL THE FLEET!"

I bet Hallam sounds like her! ( * Runs out the room holding butt cheeks * )

Great memories, Marko. As a paid up Man of Kent, I know all those local 'Giants' really well!

We were drinking in a boozer called "The Edinburgh Castle" just prior to kick off. (And a bit after it!) It's about a mile up the road from Ebbsfleets ground. We weren't intending on going in there, but walking from The Granby Hotel down to the ground, we saw it...... Big Neil, "Lads! The Edinburgh CASTLE?!!" Needless to say we got into the ground around 3:25pm! You ever been in that pub, Herford......, or passed it?

Would've been a real shame not to, Marko. I haven't been in - or flung out of - that one! My nephew and his buddies, who live in the area, all know it and have frequented - shandies all round, then!

That is superb. I liked the entire area, Herford. Just one more memory of that work trip......., the very first weekend there, I got absolutely blootered on the SUNDAY night, and the contract started on the Monday. That Monday morning at 6am, I was feeling rough as a badgers arse and watching morning Tv, and right there on the tv, was live pictures of a whale trapped in the Firth of Forth. Was borderline greetin' ma eyes out. "I want to go home!! Waaaaahhh!"
