The pulled off a few cracking results and can see them being a surprise package.
The 3 goals they pulled back against Derby was poetry. :D

I cant for the life of me see Villa topping the tree, but you never know. I would think that Fulham are´nt quite there yet and Cardiff might well sniff around the play offs. Very bold to have Newcastle out of the top two  cant see that, they have the Cash and a great managerwhom i believe could have saved them with more time. I believe they also have to Cash to strengthen thrughout the season as needs be.

Good call btw. I think i will do well to get five out of me original post.

Sad to see so much pessimism around the inaction of our team ,but there is still time and we did finish seventh last season so we are not all bad people. Im looking forward to the forthcoming season as i always do,but that said we wont be in the top two when it matters or even in the top six .

But as I also say I hope Im very much wrong and we romp it.

Oh I have really just gone for a different list than most people, just so I get bragging rights if I am close and not going with the general concensus! I am sure Newcastle have the cash, but you never know ;-)

I've realised that I've put a lot of 'big clubs' in there (with the exception of a certain Norfolk outfit, of course!). You're right with what you say about there always being a dark horse, but I'm finding it really hard to choose between many of the division's teams this year. It promises to be an interesting nine months as ever...!

Believe someone put Town to be in #19 place or just outside the relegation zone by end of season, and it wasn't that far back where you would be castigated by other support members for such a disclosure, but this time they may just be on to something.

For one thing, can't envisage Norwich being behind us at the finish or for us (even) to be in the top six places - and while would want the best for the team and to get out of this damn league after so many years away - as emphasized in a recent post, we simply don't possess the attributes to properly compete next season and there's going to be so many other teams better prepared, with better players - even better ideas - in this upcoming division, that I feel we'll be trailing behind to such an extent that the distance will be too substantial to traverse by end of season.

In so many words Mick McCarthy seems a one-hit wonder. Not just idle talk, it's widely recognized - had a standout year, got us challenging once again or exhibited a certain degree of expectation - but now fading fast and if last season didn't convince enough (people) that he's not the right name to lead us on, then this time next year could prove a damaging learning experience.

Bluemikes right we are no Barca, but a reality check might just be needed. We finished seventh    thats brilliant when you think of how Little we spent, and had most of our flair players out for long periods. We have a lot of grafters as is Micks way,but we lacked the suprise element or creativity or plan B call it what you want. Mick has a team that would die for one another and Work vary vary hard. They will make mistakes but the suitcase type of player we used to buy is i believe very much a thing of the past.

Its going to be a rollercoaster and only Newcastle have the funds manager and players to make an impact. I notice that soom of their starts are being sold so maybe it will be closer than most think.

That's a good link, and it totally blows out of the water the myth that everyone is spending while we are not ! Yes there are about 7 clubs that have spent money and 2 or 3 others that have spent around what we have, maybe a 200K more, the rest have spent zero !

There is still a lot of dealing to be done and I expect us to be involved in that just as much as anyone. As for Huddersfiled Rossi, yes they have been busy buying a shed load of sh*te LOL.

"McCarthy has previously hinted that it will be striker Freddie Sears and midfielder Teddy Bishop who will start in the wide positions when the Championship opener against Barnsley, at Portman Road, comes around a week tomorrow."

From today's EADT. Sears spent the whole of last season demonstrating that he can't play wide. It's that stubbornness, along with my fear that MM will not try the youngsters and will stick with last season's poor back 4 that makes me think we'll do well to finish in the top half. However, I'm sure I'll be proved wrong.

I think they will be very good this year, i hope im wrong but have a feeling they will do it comfotably. Ipswich will have the odd good result but i cant see us being in top 10 with the squad we have.it showed how much we are lacking creative attackers when fraser got injured.

Town - 12 th to 16 th place. Flirtation with relegation Oct / Nov and then change of manager pulls us into mid-table safety after Christmas.

Yes... I'll do prediction league :).

TBH... haven't got a clue how we'll do this season. Bit tongue in cheek, but don't expext top six.

Mid-table wouldn't be the worst if we bring on young players. If we're here again a year on (Pre-season in 2017 ) .. same style of football, same faces on team sheets, same moans.... then we would be going backwards.

Next season we might have to go backwards a step or two during the season ... to go forward. Looking forward to new season whatever happens.

Only days to go people, I see most have been brave enough to have a go, let's just see what the season brings.
Really hoping Mick and the lads surprise me positively and push on from last season. Like I always say this league gets harder and harder to get out of, and this forthcoming season is no exception.

With relatively few new faces, sometimes there's a lot to be said for continuity and the neculous of the team know each others strengths and weaknesses.

Good luck to the lads and let's be there or thereabouts when it matters in May.

I will put this thread up from time to time just to spark some debate, reactions.

All the best and enjoy the season everyone.
