While taking in a read on a rival team page today there was an article on Mr Gascoigne and a latest picture that shows a serious cause for concern.

This is not an opportunity to ridicule any one individual, Yes he's responsible for his own demise - years of assistance and self-help programs have proved ultimately ineffective but this was the 'man' who 25 years back was on the verge of greatness and was being prophesized as one of the most charismatic and gifted players of a generation and sadly it's with regret I saw him in today's light.

The people responding in the below link are right in saying he's had every opportunity to get his life in order and save himself from this downward spiral, but how many more chances is Mr Gascoigne going to receive. Perhaps wasted words, but wish him every success that he can once again turn his life around and find some level of salvation.

Never having been in his mental state or an alcoholic I really cannot fathom on why they do it. George Best was another example of the way alcohol can grip you and kill you even if you have money. It's such a tragedy when it happens to people in the public eye but unfortunately there are lots more who suffer that are unknown to us but only the people around them know. I hope things get turned around for him and all the others but it seems like it is a chasm which they can never get out of.

So many players of potential as mentioned (Best, Greaves, Gascoigne himself) wasted their god-given talents due to self-abuse with excess drink and reckless lifestyle. Thing is, if it had occurred with names such as Ade Akinbiyi or Ulrich Le Pen, it wouldn't have warranted a mention but it's only when it takes a hold of star names that it makes headlines. (Sansom had his problems if correct the past year but haven't heard anything more in the time since)

As a non-drinker for some considerable time I don't always appreciate the appeal it may have on others but realize enough, if you're in a high-profile job, with a high-profile name, you require to go about your business quietly and set an example to younger fans to follow, but perhaps this (idea) is stuck in a now distant point of time, that is now no longer operative (or relevant)

Worth saying there was a brief idea today that Mr Gascoigne could be a contender - if the individual in question was mentally competent enough to participate and free from excessive drink intake -for the vacant English team manager opportunity - he's something (or was) of a fan favorite and following on from the events of Euro '96, I think a great many would have taken to him and at least provided a chance.

That's he's not, and in the real world can never (now) occur, is a pity, but take away all the problems (from before) and it would have made for an interesting candidate if nothing else.
