Foreign Owners of English football clubs.

Post by Charnwood » Fri Sep 02, 2016 5:14 pm

I know we sometimes criticise foreign ownership of English football clubs but this Thai fella at Leicester City really is becoming a local legend even though he commutes from Bangkok to Leicester every weekend and doesn't live in the locality.

However yesterday I did some local voluntary work and learned that he'd donated £37500 to our charity, at the same time he donated the same amount to four other Leicester charities.

I then went on to read in the local newspaper that he's given a further £2m to kick start a £10m appeal to build a new Children's Hospital in the City.

I must admit my view on Foreign owners has changed significantly since this guy came to Town, and if ever we're in a situation where a foreign owner starts showing an interest in buying Ipswich Town I'll think very differently to how I would have a few years ago.

The trouble is for every good foreign owner I can probably name Three disastrous ones.

Mixed feelings about foreign owners; but Leicester seem to have found an individual who is committed wholeheartedly to both the club and local community. Credit where it's clearly due.

(Of course it's not invariably foreigners who make bad owners!)

He won me over with all those Mercs (or BMWs) he bought for the squad. Top bloke.

Had it been Audis, then he could Fk off back to Bangkok.

I'm sure the guy is exceptionally good but it's taught me a lesson not to simply be anti a prospective foreign owner just because he is foreign.

When I think about it, English football is massive in Asia as they eat, sleep and drink it 24hrs a day, so no surprise when a very wealthy businessman wants to have a slice of the action if the opportunity arises especially if his business interests extend to he UK.

He does appear to be good Charny . But as they say there's no such thing as a free lunch, payback will occur at some point I suspect. Not sure how though !
