Mick McCarthy & early favourites to fill the Aston Villa job

An Aston Villa club statement confirming the exit of former West Bromwich Albion boss Di Matteo said: "The club decided to act following a run of disappointing results which has the left the team occupying 19th position.
"The club would like to place on record its appreciation to Roberto for all his efforts in helping rebuild the squad."
Former Birmingham City boss Steve Bruce, who still lives in the Midlands, and ex-Wolves manager Mick McCarthy are among the early favourites to replace him.
If offered (and I can't see it happening) I'm sure he'd jump at the opportunity.

As I have said before can't see Mick going anywhere.
I see MM has a buy-out clause in his contract and last December he said “It’s a clause to buy me out and it’s pretty restrictive enough that nobody’s even going to bother [asking owner Marcus Evans]”.
Only time will tell I guess should any club decide to go for him.

I see Aston Villa as a far, FAR bigger club than Ipswich Town........, if he's crap at Ipswich, why would Villa want crap?
Mick + dough = success?

If offered, I'm sure he'll take it. He knows things here are looking dicey for him here and its a 'bigger' job he can do. Turn around the dressing room with TC and Chambo ... and maybe have a few more funds when things are looking brighter.
Only thing is.... Steve Bruce seems a far better bet. Now I don't want Bruce to get the England job, but if it clears the way for Mick to realise his ambitions at Villa... then so be it.
Sick of this negativity towards Mick, let's back him for the Villa job.... Dr Tony Xia could be scanning the forum.

Not a cat in hells chance of Villa wanting him, in any case why would they stomp up cash for MM when Bruce is available for nothing ?
The bookies are quoting 16/1 on MM going to Villa the last time I looked so hardly a favourite for the job.

Yes quite right Mike, there's not a cat in hells chance Villa would want MM. I hear there's an opening at Le Havre, though!

If his current performance prevails ITFC could be his last job for a while.

I think that if Mick was offered the Villa Job and he took it, as they would sure as hell give him the funds to build a solid squad, and to me it would prove one thing, that ME wouldn't back Mick with Good funding here, although it has been stated that funds were and are made available to bring in players, that's just to appease the fans, I think this is a porky, ME had his fingers burnt with Keane etc., and said that's it no more funding, also He really isn't a true Ipswich Owner fan, FFS he supports Chelsea, he uses Town as a Tax loss against his Ticket Corporate empire, and has little or no interest in making himself available to talk to the fans face to face, only through his puppet Milne, what sort of Shallow Man is that, he's frightened to meet fans that might ask some awkward questions about his true ambitions for the club, so to me it would be good for Mick to go to Villa if he gets the chance, and Mr Evans can sell us to another consortium, who are willing to build the club back to its original good footballing status family club, there are consortiums out there be it China, USA, Middle East, who would pay well over £100 million to own Ipswich Town FC, as that is peanuts cash to most buyers, so I just hope that Mr Evans does the Honourable thing and sells us, and leaves to run his somewhat corrupt(yet to be proven) corporate ticket touting business elsewhere, we wouldn't miss him as we rarely see him only a cardboard replica positioned in the directors box area.

Ashford, with all due respect buddy, if there were consortiums out there willing to pay more than £100M for ITFC, Mevans would no doubt know about it AND would have sold by now......, for a decent profit no less!
Maybe ITFC need to relocate to the Black Country........., that's where all the consortiums seem to want to go.
